Well mannered and respectful Artists, Writers, Lovers, and Bohemian spirits are invited and welcome to stay at a very reasonable rate
Great Neighborhood! We have 1 small room with a 2-tiered Aero Bed, books galore, a desk, and wireless internet. A portable massage table available upon request.
The room and location are perfect for creative spirits that are traveling or visiting Portland!
Please Note: This is a very spirited house! We are not a House for the "Faint of Heart or those that desire a controlled and quiet environment.
Boldness and Adaptability are a MUST at The Heart of Hawthorne House! We are a Friendly and Fiery Bunch.
It is very much a permissive "When in Rome" in this case "When in the Heart of Hawthorne" do as the Heart of Hawthorne-Landians do...a very go and groove with the flow kind of house dynamics.
The house and neighborhood is located in a very lively area of the Hawthorne District. It is an "urban" setting...it is NOT Quiet and Serene...and the spirit of the household follows suit--Both Hood and House are lively and boisterous, and have a constant flow of hustle and bustle and various activities.
Freud's Parlor - This particular room, is also located right near the front entrance and close to the street...so if you are sensitive and wanting peace and quiet, this room would probably not be suited to you. It can be noisy and pick up all the activity inside the house as well as, the outside street noise.
This space and house is unique and can be utilized in a number of creative ways, beyond just basic lodging.
It would also be a suitable room for a lively creative type that needs a portable office space...unless that person needs quiet space to work!
It also is a perfect spot for adventurous lovers that need a warm room for a discrete rendezvous in a Bohemian Love Hotel!
The possibilities are endless...
We are a creative, friendly, and supportive household, send us your ideas, requests, and intentions and we will do our best to accommodate you and your space needs.
The House itself has: large front porch, back deck, a good size gated backyard and garden, dishwasher, washer/dryer, and hot tub.
It is close to downtown. Close to several main bus lines.
Placed right in the Heart of the Awesome Hawthorne District!
What to expect: A shared kitchen and bathroom, lively conversations in the kitchen around the "round table", people on the porch participating in various activities, reading, writing, conversing, people watching. We have recently coined the term: "Porch-Landia"!
You might arrive and hear the strains of a saxaphone or guitar coming from a window above, a painter with an easel out in the garden, collage making, gardening and other house projects. Sometimes at night we will have a fire going in the back garden, s'more making and eating, night owl bohemians around the fire or around the "round table" talking about art, music, and whatever other passions evolve.
Smoking is allowed outside the house in designated areas, if someones smoking is bothering you, politely ask them to refrain or take it somewhere else.
Hawthorne District Location:
The Hawthorne District is a popular avant-garde neighborhood just across the Willamette River from Downtown that runs along Hawthorne Boulevard between 17th and 43rd Avenues.
The Boulevard is lined with locally-owned coffee shops, antique stores, cafes, and trendy clothing shops, many with a bohemian flavor reminiscent of the 70's. Popular restaurants on Hawthorne include Cup and Saucer Café which serves up vegetarian and organic fare, and New Seasons, a local healthy food store. Bread and Ink, a bistro with and northwest-influenced food and wonderfully rich desserts is also known for its ample Sunday Yiddish brunches.
Hawthorne Boulevard has a rich nightlife and many of the pubs have sidewalk seating. Favorite fare at the Bridgeport Ale House is their oven-fired pizza. The Lucky Labrador Brew Pub produces hand-crafted ales and even allows patrons to bring their dogs to enjoy the fun on the back patio.
Landmarks in the Hawthorne District are: Powell's Books Annex, the Hawthorne Bridge (the oldest vertical lift bridge in operation in the United States), and the Bagdad Theater & Pub, a Portland relic owned and restored to its original glory by the local McMenamins chain. The Bagdad offers the usual pub fare as well as craft beers and second-run movies at reasonable prices.

So so welcome! It was just the perfect way to see Portland. Cha-Cha had all kinds of guides to Portland and was located right off Hawthorne and near Division which were awesome neighborhoods. It was lovely
Interesting and unique space in a fine old home. Cynthia is very welcoming, creating a laid back and comfortable environment. The location is great with easy access to the many restaurants and unique shops on Hawthorne.
I appreciate the laid back attitude of the Hawthorne House and Cynthia's easy going, yet attentive attitude about the space and her guests. She makes it all look so easy.
Cynthia's house is a very nice and comfortable place to stay. Cynthia is an excellent hostess and her house is in a very convenient location in Portland. And by the way the beds are very comfortable there.
Really interesting space that's close and convenient to everything on Hawthorne. Cythina was able to book me on short notice and I had a great time.
Our trip was quick, but the host was very nice. I'd suggest booking it with a group.

I am a Portland native.
I grew up in a very Italian American Family.
I am a free spirited Bohemian. Beauty, Truth, Freedom and Love are my mottos!
I am always an artist at heart-I love any and every medium no matter how unique and unorthodox it is...
I am a Sagittarian...a warm blooded Italian and expansive thinking Jupitarian…
I always create space and make a welcoming place for "all creature great and small, the good, bad and the ugly, and for all who are stunning and beautifully ordinary…all walks of people in life is what makes the world be and spin forward!
I am a lover of any thing that sings soulfully and dances freely to the beautiful unique beat of their own drummer...
I am Unique and Quirky...Funny, goofy and dorky and like to clown around, laugh and giggle and be merry…...
I am a visionary…
I work hard and play hard...
I have a blessed tribe of amazing, down to earth friends and beloveds..
I sensually imbibe with all my senses...
I love to cook…
I am a good and loyal friend…a musketeer always...I practice the code of "palabra de lobo" "word of wolf" guilty at times of being way too forgiving...in a material world; those with heart-driven aspirations mean the world to me...
I am more aboriginal than I am techno and cyber, though I am fairly savvy in the latter realm…
I am sometimes a stubborn and fierce activist...
I am a holder of contradictions...people have a hard time defining or pinning me down in an easy all-inclusive bundle--just when they think they know me--they are completely surprised by some new facet.
I am a true romantic at heart…yet anything that even hints at being uber-trite or a bad cliché makes me a bit "cringy" and "crawly".
I believe in timing and synchronicity…
I absolutely love the things that defy...the irrationals as I call them.
I have a huge replenishing well of "joie de vivre" and I am a completely self-professed existentialist~paradox~ (awe the beautiful contradictions) though I view the angst as just an element of life's ironies and an inseparable part of being given a mortal coil and an earthly existence...though wings should be arriving soon...even with the courageous acceptance of irony and angst I am a full-blooded optimist…
I get heavy hearted when I read or watch the news too much, lose a client, or feel my heart is not being cared for properly--but I am also very resilient by nature...
I tend to pass through my funks rather quickly...and if I don't my host of comrades will pull my head out of my ass for me...they are such a blessing...
I think imagination and curiosity and reciprocity and generosity are extremely important qualities to embody to be the best, most fully realized human being possible...
I march to the poly-rhythmic beats of my own drummer…I have been told that I am both graceful in spirit and guileless...
I love adventure and I find great beauty in the mundane.
I love the combination of fire and metal, thus love anything combustible and incendiary
I always try to stay in the present in both mind, body and spirit, with eyes always gazing into the future or towards whatever my heart is calling to my attention to in the moment.
I am a work in progress...And my home is too...
My mission is to create an open, inspiring, creative, and welcoming space for all who enter!
