John and Liz are the most friendly hosts one can dream of.
It is not just because I was ill and they treated me as if I am part of their family.
They are lovely people , giving you a feeling of a protected , warm home in Africa.
sharing happily the nice warm house with the guest.
the house is located in a peaceful neighborhood , easy to reach from the city center and from Nairobi airport.
it is not only that next time in Nairobi I will stay there , I might consider flying to Nairobi
to visit them.
John and Liz are a really nice people. In the short time i'd spent with them, they made me very comfortable. They are very hospitable. I was arriving at 4 in the morning and John made sure I reached safely. They also shared breakfast with me in the morning.
The apartment being let out is safe and inside a guarded compound and good for one person. It is easily accessible from the airport and the city area. A bus stop is close by.
John and Liz can help with all kinds of information about getting around in Nairobi and Kenya. I would have really liked to spend more time there. It was a pleasure talking to them and getting to know about Kenya.
John and Liz are the best hosts in Kenya - absolutely. I loved staying with them, and plan to stay in touch with them from now on. Liz is just finishing a masters in public health in LA, and John went to school in Ohio, and so they both come back and forth to the US. I'm hoping I'll see them both in California over Christmas!
The room they rent is great, and it's within a compound that has their little house and their parent's much larger house. That compound is in a small, wealthier but not super-rich, gated community. So it's very safe - a guard at the gate and all. The room doesn't have cooking facilities but Liz and John let me use their kitchen whenever i wanted, and they also shared food with me on occation and made me delicious tea that I am really missing now.
Buruburu, where John and Liz live, is a very good area of Nairobi. It's quite central, a bit on the wealthy side, clean, and doesn't have bad traffic. There's a good supermarket close to the house. And it takes about 15 minutes to get into city center, by mtatu.
When you stay with John and Liz, you are paying in part for the room and in part for their expert advice and guidance about getting around Nairobi, where to find things, how to take mtatus to various areas, how much things should cost, etc. Plus, their lovely hospitality and friendship.
