The location is in the quiet leafy outskirts of Nairobi. It is 15km (20min) away from the city centre.
The cottage has a rustic country atmosphere and the mature garden with a large variety of trees attracts all kinds of birds and it is normal to see the hadada and scared ibis busy pecking on the grass. Others include the paradise flycatchers, olive thrushes and firefinches to name a few. We occasionally get monkeys visiting because of the trees.
Nearby along the Kiambu road is the Ridgeways Mall for supermarket shopping, available also are banks, forex bureaus and restaurants. There is also Thika Road Mall which is larger and with more restuarants.
The cottage has two bedrooms( Large master bedroom with Queen size bed), a shower, kitchen and a large living dining area.

We were absolutely delighted with our stay at the cottage.
It is located in a delightful rural (though secure) setting. The cottage itself is fully self-contained and very well equipped. Although some distance from the city of Nairobi, with easy access to the new highway travel into the city is very easy. Though taxis are available it really would be advantageous to have a car available.
We were particularly impressed with the level of supplies available when we arrived - better than any other accommodation we have used. Cannot recommend highly enough - far better than hotel accommodation.
All in all everything went real nice! Was there for two weeks.
Environment is absolute hit about this place. U feel Africa and get a class accommodation all together. Peaceful, green environment but still close enough to downtown (if you use car). Cleaning service was good. Lady took care of everything! Host was real friendly! U might miss hot water in kitchen but if you use tea heater u'll manage without even feeling it. Everything else was good.
The pictures say it all: The house is a lovely relaxing place to experience Nairobi from a green garden in Ridgeways. Roger and Bella are responsive and reliable and made our stay very enjoyable - even giving us a jar of home made honey! Thank you very much indeed! Hannah and Olivier
This was our home away from home!
Absolutely lovely & simple cottage, with the best host we could have asked for. Like it says in the title, its a pretty serene & beautiful environment, exactly what we wanted. The garden was a joy to have our morning coffee under the gorgeous sun & our little girl loved it too. The monkeys were not much of a bother to us, especially as our daughter enjoyed watching them in the morning.
The area is very safe and convenient to get into the city center and anywhere else really, as its located not far from the Thika Super highway. You are not short of shopping mall & restaurants here, plus there's the Safari Park Hotel close by, for a nice weekend brunch and possibly a deep in the pool.
Bella is a wonderful hostess and very helpful too! Any issues we had in the cottage, she made sure they were sorted out immediately. She even allowed us to have family over (16 people!) for a Christmas BBQ & provided us with everything we needed. Thanks Bella!
Too bad we didn't get to meet Roger, but we had exceptional communication from him. Fast at responding to any queries we had, arranged for the airport pick up, and even got in touch a week after we had left to check on whether we had arrived home safe. That was a big plus for me... went to show how hospitable they are. Thanks Roger :)
I would highly recommend this place, because am sure you'll love it...we honestly did!
We had a wunderfull time in this cottage. It was a perfect choice for some relaxed days after arrival. The place is very quiet, beside an airplane pathing rarely or monkeys on the roof some and when. Bella, the host, was very nice, caretaking and also generous about allowing extremly flexible arrival and departure times. Thanks. It might not be ideal in case you want to explore the city, but as Bella and Roger help you in arranging the transport you get cached at the cottage and brought back from the center for about 3000 ksh (25€) both ways.
I loved my week long stay at "Located in a Serene Environment" in Ridgeways. It was a real retreat and I felt right at home. The interior was pleasant and the land outside was wooded and peaceful.
I took cabs (Mwithiga was trustworthy and personable (phone number hidden)). Otherwise, having one's own car would be practical.
Ridgeways Mall is about a 45 minute walk or a 15 minute drive away. It is an upscale shopping center with a Nakumatt grocery, banks, restaurants and shops.
I cooked my meals on the four burner hot plate. There was a toaster, microwave, electric tea kettle and a small refrigerator in the kitchen as well.
The house had good reception on the TV.
There was hot-water-on-demand in the shower.
There was an iron/ironing board.
I was there in the rainy season and the house had no leaks.
I was very comfortable there and would recommend this house.
If a paradise escape from the hustle of town is what you are looking for, this wonderful two bedroom bungalow has it in spades.
As a family of two adults, travelling from Canada with a 3 year old and 2 one year olds, we needed to find a place where our children would be able to play safely during the day.
The main feature and selling point is the HUGE garden planted with wonderful old trees, flowers and grass. There is a smaller private area near the bungalow and as well a massive grassy area beyond we can play soccer/football. There is also a BBQ outside and the host provides outdoor seating and a table if you are planning on having gatherings outside.
We brought our own cribs to accommodate the twins, but our host provided everything else we needed in terms of bedding. There were even two spare mattresses for the occasional guests. The kitchen is basic, with a small fridge, microwave, sink, countertop gas burner and pantry. If you do a lot of cooking and are used to an american size kitchen, you will find it a bit small. But our local househelp had no problem cooking up major feasts in it. The shower is an electric flow through which provides an adequate amount hot water for showers. The toilet is just fine and the washbasin is good. All the bathroom and kitchen facilities are rustic and what you would expect for a country cottage type accommodation.
The house is a wooden construction, so during the cold season, you need to bring extra fleecy sweaters to avoid getting chilly at night. The host can provide hot water bottles for the beds.
As my husband works near the UN complex the location was ideal, just a 12 minute drive away through the neighbourhood of Runda.
It is also just a 10 minute walk to a restaurant with attached playground, which was handy for our 3 year old.
The new superhighway, Thika Road, is a 3 minute drive, and connects you to the nightlife of Westlands in 15 minutes, and to the central business district in 15 minutes (at low traffic times). There is also a major mall with a modern Nakumatt supermarket about a 10 minute traffic free drive away, and many small local shops around the area. The mall also has a bouncy castle on the weekends for the kids.
About a 10 minute drive away, along Kiambu road there is the Karura Forest, an amazing and SAFE place to walk for hours and see monkeys, rivers and fragrant Eucalyptus trees. Also along the same road is Paradise lost, a wonderful nature park with horse riding, a playground, boat rides, caves and waterfalls.
In all we were so happy to have found this place and if you don't mind living simply, you will be rewarded with a garden paradise away from the hustle and bustle of dusty Nairobi.
