Elim House will be closed down as a Bed and Breakfast, as from 1 April to 1 December 2015. The housing situation in Christchurch is quite critical for rental purposes. When people move out of their homes for earthquake repairs, it is very hard to get accommodation for a short period of time.
So I have decided to rent out my BnB room for the next 7 months, and try to help out in what ever way we can.
Looking forward to seeing all the guests back again in December 2015.
Welcome to Christchurch and thank you for checking this listing!
THERE IS A MINIMUM BOOKING OF TWO NIGHTS

It is full of charm, and character with an old fire place, and ornate ceiling. Getting here and around:
The airport is 13 kms or 18 mins drive, travelling by car, to our bnb. We are located in the suburb of Shirley on New Brighton Road, up a long driveway. This means there is plenty of off street parking by the house. The Palms shopping mall is one block away, which would be a two minute walk. The mall has shopping, banking, post office, cafes, and restaurant's, and everything you will need during your stay. The Palms is a key hub on the bus route if you don't want to use your car, or if you are travelling car free. The buses travel to the city on a very regular basis and also travel to all the malls in Christchurch via the Orbiter and Metrostar bus services. You can get off at any Mall you want if shopping is your thing.
Christchurch has lots to do in and around the city as well as interesting day/half day trips to surrounding towns. Lyttleton is a short trip through the tunnel, or over the hill, for a morning trip. It is one of the older parts of Christchurch, as it was our first port. Sumner is another nice morning drive to the beach, also by the sea is New Brighton. If you want to go further afield, Akaroa is a great village with a French flavour, also an early settlers spot. Hanmer Springs is another very lovely spot only 90 mins drive from Christchurch. Hanmer is very relaxing, with the mountains, trees, golfing and hot pools. Hanmer is also becoming an adventure tourism location for those more active. If you are here in the Winter and skiing is your thing, there are two ski fields very close; Mount Hutt 93.3kms or 1 hr 19mins south of Christchurch, or Porter Heights, 90.5kms or 1hr 16mins north of Christchurch.
We have been hosting for 12 months now, and we are really enjoying running the BnB very much. We have hosted overseas University students, on three ocassions, and so enjoyed having them with us.
I am really looking forward to continuing that service,
My hope is that you feel very much at home and comfortable,
I want you to relax and enjoy your time with us We will help in any way we can.
We are non smokers, which means the BnB is non smoking. We have made this rule for future non smoking guests who will be staying. Also, we ourselves are a non smoking family.
My mom and I had a great time during we stay .
Heather and Bruce were nice and friendly host. The room was spacious and spotless . Heather prepared lovely welcome fruits and chocolate for us. The breakfast was delightful， my mom loved it so much. Highly recommended! Best choice in Christchurch!
Well staying at the Elim House was our first air bnb experience and it could not have been any better, Heather is a wonderful host, the house and the room is as described.
Pretty, hygienic and everything you would need available.
Heather is very accommodating and always available and around if you need anything. All in all a wonderful experience...
Fantastic Hosts that not only provide a very clean and tidy studio, but also take the time to share recommendations, insights and their chipper attitude with you. We loved the studio, breakfast and the bathrobes! We felt very comfortable and delighted to have stayed there.. can't recommend it enough!
Heather was wonderful and the accommodations were great. The room is extremely spacious and had all the comforts of home.
Breakfast and conversation were lovely.
We had a wonderful stay at Elim House. Heather made our stay great by providing us with good tips on where to go and how to get there. We had a nice breakfast and enjoyed our conversation with her. The accommodations were perfect for us. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you Heather.
The reservation was canceled 127 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
My name is Heather, I am married to Bruce, we have been married for 45 years. I have just retired from working. Bruce works full time. I want to start a bed and breakfast, as I feel I would like to do more, and I like having people to stay, and looking after them. I like to be busy, but on the other hand I also like to relax, with a little shopping, or a good movie, I love a good show (musical or drama) I like to keep relatively fit.
We have hosted students on three occasions, one boy from Germany, who was a secondary school student, he stayed with us for 12 months, which worked very well, and we enjoyed having him to stay with us.
We had two girls from Minnesota, USA, they were special needs teachers, in their last year of University, graduating on their return to USA.
And last year we also had another two girls from Minnesota, last year graduates, graduating as school teachers. We both enjoyed hosting them, and they enjoyed their time with us. They were with us for 6 weeks.
We live in New Zealand, where we have just returned to live, having lived in Australia for the last 12 years. We have two sons, one lives in New Zealand, and one son in Australia, we have 3 grandsons, and two granddaughters,
We lived in Fiji for two years, where we got to know different and varied cultures, it was a great experience, being around National Foreign Aid people, who really enjoyed the travel, and experiencing the changing countries, and what they had to offer, in their culture.
That would be the start of our interest in meeting other people and cultures, where we made really good friends, whom we still visit, or keep in touch with.
I like cooking, love music, all types, do not go to the movies as much as I would like, but love them, also like to watch TV at night. I like to read, also walking and doing Pilates is another thing I like to do. I like interior design, making things look nice,
I really like hosting, looking after people, making sure that they have all their needs met, that they are comfortable, and that their time with us is enjoyable and relaxing.
If I did have a life motto, it would be helping and serving people. I place a large emphasis on my family, I love looking after them, especially my grandchildren, family is very important to me.
We are a non smoking home, and have no pets, we do have a drink, i.e. red wine, some nights with our meal.
