Accessing the apartment was fairly easy. There's a surface lot behind the building that you can drive around the block to access. We were lucky and did not have to pay for parking because the exit gate was broken so they'd dismantled it. Once inside the complex, the doorman was very helpful in pointing us where to go. The elevator was broken but taking the stairs wasn't a bother. The apartment is clean and nice, it generally provided everything we needed. The only thing I would recommend for future travelers would be to bring your own soap and shampoo / conditioner. Some is provided but it is only in tiny packages and the shampoo and conditioner are a combo. (Granted, I am new to Airbnb so maybe this is standard.) We loved staying in Lincoln Park and were able to walk to the Lincoln Park Zoo then rented Divvy bikes to get back because it started raining - there's a Divvy bike portal right around the corner from the apartment! The doorman were always very nice and even helped us with a cab to get downtown one night. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and made for an awesome weekend!
JoAnne was an amazing host. Very responsive and that's even given the fact I had a thousand questions it being my first airbnb. The area was gorgeous and space very clean. I did not get the chance to enjoy the rooftop as my stay was quick and sleep took over. I would stay here again for sure, great first experience.
I have traveled Chicago with my two siblings. And you know what? It was great place for us. Easy to access downtown and fun neighborhood and great French bakery. If you think about this place for vacation. Take it :)
The apartment was beautiful and exactly as pictured. I would have liked more clear communication with the host, but overall I am happy I stayed here. The location is convenient and the rooftop is an added bonus.
I really did not enjoy my stay with JoAnne.
First, she was really unresponsive. I emailed her about 36 hours before my arrival, telling her my parents would pick up the keys and giving her information as to arrival time/departure. She didn't respond, so I emailed her again about 16 hours before arrival time. She responded only as I was boarding my plane, which really sucked because I had to relay the information to my parents who were flying in at an earlier time.
The apartment itself was okay, but very corporate. The towels feel like cheap Super 8 hotel towels, and there is almost no light in the apartment. With all the windows open and all the lights turned on in the middle of the morning, I still needed a flashlight to get around. THIS IS AN APARTMENT THAT IS USED SOLELY FOR AIRBNB. This isn't like renting your own home out to someone - this is like renting a hotel. It doesn't have a homey feel that you'd expect.
The internet is terrible. It barely streams Netflix, and that's only if you don't browse the web on the side. The television gets like 5 channels.
In sum, I wouldn't stay at another apartment managed by JoAnne again.
The apartment was exactly as pictured, with a very comfortable bed and plenty of space! The rooftop hot tub was amazing at night!
This was my first experience with airbnb and it was an excellent one. The place was very clean, very comfortable, and JoAnn was very helpful. Located in a beautiful space in Old Town. I hope it's available on my next trip to Chicago.
