  • more than just a place to stay, we enjoyed getting to know lindsay the two nights we spent on his yacht. he is interesting and engaging with great stories to share and a passion for wine and things new zealand. lindsay is well-traveled and has a unique perspective on the world and new zealand's place in it. wind dancer II is clean, roomy and well-cared for. there are clean, modern shower and laundry facilities on shore. lindsay prepared delicious breakfasts and dinners onboard and would not let us help clean up. the harbor is close to the city center, we walked to the nelson market on saturday morning. in the evening we could hear the "opera in the park" concert from our slip and enjoyed the fireworks display over the harbor, followed by stargazing. the only thing that would have made our stay better would have been to be there on regatta day!

  • We had great fun with Lindsay. He is the most gracious and interesting host plus a good cook and the yacht experience was fabulous. We had bad luck to have our ferry canceled and came a day late but he let our booking delay that day and we were treated to a seat on the yacht during the weekly race. THRILLING. A booking to remember.

  • It was a wonderful stay with Lindsay on his boat. We've never thought to feel like home on christmas, but so it was. Everything was well prepared, we enyoyed his awesome menus with fabulous wines. Lindsay's hospitality is great and we recommend to stay with him. The harbour is quite near to the city, about 10 minutes walkway.

  • What a memorable experience! Lindsay could not have been kinder and more attentive to anything we needed. To top it off, he has had an incredible life full of adventures, and is willing to hear your life experience as well. The whole atmosphere was dreamy with some of the best weather we have had while living in New Zealand. Then there is the food-the best dressed fish two nights in a row! One afternoon Lindsay took us out into the Nelson Harbour, and even gave my husband a chance to catch a fish-OK, it was tiny-but it was a FISH! If you get the chance, don't miss this opportunity. We are leaving NZ soon, but this was one of the highlights of our journey here.

  • Spoiled.
We had never slept on a boat before and were aprehensive. Lindsay not only put our fears at bay (or 'to sea' if you like), but spoiled us with delicious food (he loves cooking) and wine (his speciality). He even washed up!
We were given a sail around Nelson Harbour and felt like royalty. (He was embarased when he ran the boat aground for the first time ever) and we had to wait for high tide to lift us free - but that gave us time to enjoy one another's yarns - he has had an interesting life!
Do it! Go stay with him. Be prepared to be spoiled.

  • what a fantastic way to spend our first christmas in NZ !
lindsay was such an interesting gentleman , and kept us entertained with stories and was so knowledgeable about so many topics .
the food was fabulous , and with lindsay being in the wine industry , we not only got to try a selection of new ( to us ! ) wines, we also got to learn a lot about wine .
we felt totally spoilt during the 3 days there , and the chance to be on a yacht , was a rare opportunity indeed.
it was an experience that we would highly recommend, and feel we made a new friend ! carol and steve
