About this listing

Featuring some of the most spectacular views in Savusavu, our 2 breezy and comfortable cottages have a rustic simplicity and modern sensibility. Enjoy our self catering cottages with bountiful garden and private but close proximity to Savusavu town.

The space

Bula Vista is a unique holiday rental in Fiji on the beautiful and unspoilt northern island of Vanua Levu. We have a stunning view of the Savusavu Harbour, and its great to watch the boats coming and going and the weather moving across the sky, as well as the superb sunsets. The accommodation has been designed to be low tech and very simple but extremely comfortable and relaxing. We have a main cabin and a second room which sleeps 2 currently configured as 2 single beds.

At both rooms, you will enjoy stunning views of the Savusavu Harbour, a real Fijian style outdoor living experience, modern bathroom facilities, ocean breeze cooling, and comfortable bed and linens.

We have designed this location as a place you can relax and really enjoy the real Fiji. Our garden is designed with the idea of giving guests the opportunity to pick their own fruit for breakfast if they desire. In season, pineapples, mangos, papayas, bananas, limes, passion fruit, lemons, lemon grass as well as low growing coconut trees provide a great opportunity to eat really fresh and fragrant tropical fruit grown with organic techniques.

This self-contained accommodation is minutes from Savusavu town - a FJD$3.50 taxi ride and also very handy to the airport about 2 kilometres away. Beaches, snorkeling and adventure activities are also very close.

You will be met at the airport, ferry or bus station in Savusavu when you arrive if you require a pick up (please advise), and this is included in your rate.

The accommodation has been created from a beautiful blue 20 foot container, painted white inside, with a varnished hardwood floor and fully screened with two windows and a ranch slider. It comes with a queen size bed, refridgerater/freezer and writing desk. It has an elevated roof over the top and a wrap around deck with outdoor kitchen/living room and stunning views. There is a lounging couch, 4 directors chairs, a table, and 3-ring gas burner for cooking. We provide a small washing machine and line drying as well as a dryer.

The accommodation comes equipped with linens, towels, soap, cooking implements etc.

The toilet and shower are nicely finished with tiles and all the water goes through a 4 stage filtration system from the pump so is drinkable without boiling. Water is sourced primarily from the roof. We hold 27,000 litres on the property. Diversions for rainy days are provided with a DVD player & DVD's as well as a collection of books and games. We provide a phone for local calls, as well as a list of taxis and other contacts. You top this phone up when required. We also provide a pocket wifi device so you can top up with prepay at the Valufone kiosk in town and get great wifi reception.

Savusavu has excellent casual restaurants and a small yacht club and marina which both have waterfront bars. There is also the Planter's Club which was established by some of the earlier colonial copra plantation owners. About 300 yachts a year come through here and the town is home to many interesting locals and expats. Boat and inland tours of various kinds are available. Rental cars and scooters can also be found locally, and we can provide info as required. There is a full compendium of local contacts and other important information inside the cabin.

There is a great local market, several banks, ATMs and supermarkets as well as a post office and ships chandler.

Although the location has great internet and cell phone coverage, there are also several internet cafes in town as well.

There is accommodation for 2 persons (and a young child) in the cabin, with a new room for a further two persons (twin configuration).

Welcome to Bula Vista! We look forward to hosting you soon and showing you the real Fiji!

We loved Bula Vista and Savu Savu. It is an easy 10 minute walk down hill into town where there are good restaurants, supermarkets, bars etc. The walk back up hill is a bit of a hike. If you prefer to take a taxi back up it only costs $3-4 Fijian. The container home has a beautiful view and lovely gardens. We ate delicious Papaya, passion fruit, coconut, chilis, and jack fruit right of the tree! Bula Vista has clean drinkable water, comfortable bed, and was very clean. Jerry our greeter was wonderful, he took us to a beautiful waterfall that we enjoyed swimming in. Our housekeeper I think her name was Ana?, was very friendly and came by in the middle of the week to tidy things up. We truelly had a wonderful stay in Suva Suva and would definitely stay again at Bula Vista! Vinaka vaka levu for having us!

I stayed at Bula Vista for a week with my daughter. We loved it and didn't want to leave! Everything is as described on the listing. We had the property to ourselves as the owners were away, however check-in was a breeze, we were met at the airport and taken to Bula Vista. There is a comprehensive information folder and I was able to easily find out anything I needed. The place was clean and tidy and there was adequate bedding, towels and kitchen supplies for cooking. Unfortunately for us most of the fruit wasn't in season, we did manage to find a yellow pawpaw on our second last day, and there was an amazing pineapple almost ready (if we'd stayed another week it would have been ripe for eating) but alas, not while we were visiting. The views were amazing and the area is very peaceful and although you are living in the outdoors it is also very private. Light the mosquito coils when you are at the container house and don't forget your personal insect repellent as well and the bugs won't annoy you - you will also need insect repellent elsewhere in Savusavu if you plan to venture to the restaurants in the evenings as many offer outdoor dining. Take down the phone numbers for the taxi's from the information book and get the numbers of any taxi drivers you find suitable at the taxi rank in town as sometimes the first one you ring is unavailable or doesn't answer. What an amazing little place this is hidden away in beautiful Savusavu.

We had a fabulous stay at Bula Vista. The location was perfect for us up in the hills of Savusavu. Liz and Kevin were excellent hosts. We stayed 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The location is about 10-15 minutes downhill walk to The restaurants and shopping of Savusavu . The view of the bay from the location is unbelievable. We spent several nights on the deck platform looking at the remarkable sight of fruit backs flying over At dusk from the islands ! The kitchen and seating area are ideal for sitting back and watching the boats and nature. Liz and Kevin Really looked after us with tips on the area (we recommend snorkeling at nearby split rock, swimming in the blue lagoon at hole in the Rock and dinner at captain table in Savusavu). On early arrival liz made us a fruit plate from their wonderful garden and they also invited us for an excellent dinner at their new Bure on our last night. We rented a 4x4 locally which was great for touring the island and getting to local sites. However, for getting around Savusavu taxis are inexpensive and plentiful.

Jerry was a fantastic driver and host. Fruit in the garden - wow!!! Limes, guava, papaya, pineapples, passion fruit. Love the outdoor deck/kitchen. Views were fantastic. Fijian people, culture, landscape: spectacular. Try the Captain's Cafe for a great view and meal. Went for Tony Robbins' Life & Wealth Mastery Seminar and highly recommend this as the cheapest option you can find (only 10 minute drive away - living more in the town is a plus, anyway, compared to being in a hotel, for richness of experience).

Bula Vista has got to be one of the coolest Airbnb finds on the planet! It's an absolutely incredible experience for those looking for a less touristy yet still very relaxing & remote getaway. And the shipping container design is cool too! This was my 2nd time to stay at Bula Vista. It has become one of my favorite little hidden getaway spots. Bula Vinaka!

Bula Vista is a beautiful and convenient location, about 5-10 min walk/ $3-4 dollar taxi to town. The outdoor kitchen and garden is great to have as we could pick out fresh fruits daily. Very clean and beautiful bathroom and shower area located next to the kitchen. Everything you need is there at the house. The only complaints were the super mosquitos and lack of cool air within the shipping container. I know mosquitos are out of the owners hands so just watch out for them! The mosquito coils didn't do a great job of repelling them. There is a fan above the bed that works but doesn't seem to work that well. Even on the highest speed, I still could not feel any air coming my way. Other than those two things Bula Vista was great and would recommend it to anyone who comes to Savusavu.

My partner Kevin and I like people, cooking - good food, travel, sailing and gardening - and particularly warm places, which is why we have a place in beautiful, friendly, Savusavu, Vanua Levu, Fiji! We work in the moving image world when we are not engaged in either sailing or gardening in Fiji or Auckland.
