The sunny garden suite, in our modern home, has a private entrance & bath, new daybed, that pulls-out to a king size for couples. There's a kitchenette, with snacks for morning, a closet, desk, & comfy reading chair. Close to Yale, with FREE parking
This is your own space while you visit! A great garden apartment on a quiet, safe block in the East Rock neighborhood of New Haven. This is a small suite, that is great for parents, couples and single travelers visiting New Haven or Yale. We have had individuals stay with us for months, and couples stay for a few weeks at a time. With couples, it can start to feel a bit tight. What is great about this apartment is, you are just a few blocks walk to Yale's Divinity School and Science Hill, and thirty minutes walk to Old Campus and the New Haven Green. The suite, in our mid-century modern home, overlooking the front garden. It has its own private entrance, private bath, a comfortable day bed, that can pulls-out from a single bed too a king size for two. There is a full closet, small desk, and large dresser. The kitchenette has a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, hot plate, and coffee maker. The large windows let in great light, and have views of the lush front garden. There is free Wi-Fi available.
We have two nice vintage English 3 speed woman's bike that guests can use to get around town during their stay.
You can come-and-go as you please, with your own keys, without worry of disturbing us, your hosts. We are just upstairs if you have any questions, need directions or just want to say hi.
There are neighborhood shops if you need to grab a coffee, bite to eat or to stock up your fridge with goodies. Just minutes away downtown, you will enjoy some of the best restaurants, shops and museums in Connecticut, and you'll be able to return to your private tranquil suite to relax.
There is free, safe parking 24/7 just out front, public trans and the Yale shuttle are around the corner, although we tend to ride our bikes or walk to get around the neighborhood.
We want to offer our guests a quiet, neighborhood experience in a beautiful garden setting.
FREE PARKING right out front! You have unrestricted access 24-7 to the apartment with your own entrance and key! Feel free to relax on the porch, swing on the rope swing and walk around the yard and neighborhood.
Interaction with Guests
We are usually around, but leave it up to our guests as to how much interaction they want. It is great to meet so many interesting travelers.
This is a convenient, beautiful old tree lined neighborhood, on the edge of Downtown New Haven. We are close enough to walk most everywhere in town, but still enjoy the quiet, park-side location, and its FREE PARKING!
We're on the Yale shuttle line and the public bus runs by every 10 minutes. Both buses will get you downtown in 10 minutes. We also have bicycles that guests can use, we walk or ride almost everywhere.
Other Things to Note
We love that we can walk our kids to school, walk to work, and to local markets, wine shops, and coffee shops.
No smoking inside. Quiet conduct after hours.
I booked the room for my host parent . They were happy for the trip and staying.
Truman was very flexible and attentive to clear communication. Great location, clean and comfortable.
Truman's place is awesome. It's clean, quiet and centrally located to Yale and East Rock Park. A great place!
Truman was a fantastic host with a quick response to my inquiry. The space was exactly as described and Truman made himself available to answer any questions and make sure I had everything I needed. It's in a great neighborhood with easy access to restaurants, shops, and the university. I will look forward to staying there next time I'm in New Haven.
Trent anticipated my needs: Hot water on demand, great climate control, comfy bed, ripe fruit, snacks that were welcome since I arrived at 1am. Quiet historic neighborhood with excellent Italian restaurant 2 blocks away--Caffe Bravo. Perfect for joggers with East Rock park right up the road. wish I had taken advantage of the bike. Beautiful walk to town. Worth repeat visit. Thanks
After reading the glowing reviews, I was excited to be able to stay at 70 Autumn Street in New Haven for my long-weekend vacation. Unfortunately, I did not have the great experience that others did.
Truman is very communicative, can kept in touch throughout the process, which I appreciate. The apartment is small, really only fits one person, but that was all I was expecting. As others have noted, there are amenities like small snacks and some soap in the bathroom. I was comfortable on my first night.
On the second day, I returned to the apartment to encounter what appeared to be a family reunion of sorts. I think this is probably an old house, but the pounding I could hear from many children was incredibly disruptive. I could hear their conversations word for word, either because they were shouting or the walls were thin. But it was clear that the children's play room lay directly above this apartment, and for 30 minutes they ran, jumped and thudded around. Being unable to accomplish any of the work I had brought or sleep, I was forced to seek alternate lodging. A conversation with Truman ended with no response. Needless to say, I was incredibly disappointed.
Honestly, this place is no more affordable that other hotels in the area. At hotels, you are guaranteed peace and quiet, and receive far more amenities that via an apartment rental.

I'm a designer, inventor, engineer and builder and I enjoy fixing-up and renovating homes. My family and I enjoy our good friends, food and drink and occasional travel. I own and manage the-up-keep on a few apartments locally, and I'm always looking for the next fixer-upper! We are also involved with the Yale community, and enjoy our urban / suburban lifestyle here in little New Haven.
