Wow and wow and wow. We had a fantastic week at Pierre's house. All the glowing reviews prior to our stay are true to their word. We also got to meet Pierre and his family, who are very warm, generous and friendly. To top the experience off, Pierre had brought his horses onto the adjoining reserve next to the house.... both adults and kids loved getting up and close with them everyday.
House wise, it was great in every respect with all necessary mod cons and lots of space, linen, beds, etc. Its been fully renovated but done sympathetically to the original house.
The location is as idyllic as the photos show and the property is in real life as it is in the photos. We even saw deer in the woods nearby. And the Dordogne is absolutely beautiful.
All in all we are richer for the experience and are also grateful in getting the chance to know Pierre and his family.
Pierre is a charming and hospitable host who provided literature about the region and things to do nearby. In addition, the kitchen table welcomed us with a vase of fresh flowers grown in his mother's garden, fresh croissants, homemade jam and more. The house is situated up a narrow road in a remote and beautiful setting in an area of one-lane roads amid lots of fabulous fields and woods. Please note, as a home built 400 or more years ago, it is filled with antiques and a lovely feel of history. As such, the stairs might be a bit tricky for the less nimble. It was 100 degrees the week we stayed and the 2-foot thick stone walls and stone floors definitely helped, but trying to stay cool did require we manage the shutters and windows. Pierre provided several fans, but for those who are heat-sensitive, the upper floor bedrooms may be uncomfortable in the daytime if you are unlucky with the weather. Wifi is available for an extra fee, but is not strong. We used our mobile phone's cell data instead. So those who need fast internet may have issues. The home gives you a wonderful and authentic sense of history, yet has lovely amenities like a very modern kitchen, dishwasher, clothes washer, etc. It is situated right next to one of the loveliest towns in the area, Saint Leon de Coles, which offers a few delightful spots to dine and a convenient point to start a canoe trip on the river. It's about a 40 minute drive to the large market town of Sarlat, and quite close to Lascaux II caves and many other pre-history and medieval sites to visit. Host made it all even more enjoyable to stay here!
This was an amazing place. The host was very helpful and was waiting for us when we arrived, even at 7pm at night.
The house was amazing and very clean and up to date. It fit our whole family easily but we spent most of our time sitting around the kitchen table talking and eating incredible local foods!
The surrounding area is incredible and paths just across the country road take you to an amazing pre-history cave that the kids loved. This area has a lot of things to offer families and I highly recommend staying at Pierre's.
This is an exceptionally beautiful house, restored with much love and care and a personal touch. There is lots of space in- en outside the house, it is very quiet, beautiful views over the hills. Pierre is a very friendly host, with whom it is a pleasure to communicate. On the first morning he provided us with fresh croissants and home-made jam, and although he was not around for most of the week, it was nice to meet him and his family.
We would certainly recommend this house, it certainly is one of the best places we stayed in in France.
