Travel back in time to the good ol’ days. Experience a delirious mix of Wild West infused with indulgent luxury. Your marvelous luxury mattress assures a peaceful night’s sleep. Kick off your spurs in the Roughrider’s spacious bathroom with hot water & composting odor free toilet. Strut through the adjoining saloon doors into an outdoor shower unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

The space
Your glamorous 16’x13’ tent is perched on top of a 300 sq ft deck overlooking dense forest with spectacular views. Located a short distance away is your very own Wild West bathroom complete with outdoor shower with hot water. Included is your own picnic table area and an unshared parking area. This tent is “off grid” meaning no typical electric service. I use solar panels, deep cycle batteries, and controllers to offer you modern convenient lighting and electronics charging.

Guest access
There are three tents on this property., each with its own facilities. We pride ourselves on providing a quiet and private experience. There are NO shared facilities and you have access to your “side of the mountain” along with the many thousands of acres surrounding the property. This is my first and only tent that is wheel chair accessible and is great for other guests that have mobility needs and cannot do stairs.

Other things to note
This particular tent is a NO SHOE AREA. Please plan accordingly. Camp slippers or just socks work best. I understand the inconvenience of this but your feet are going to love you. Sprawled out on the beautiful spruce flooring, I have furnished the tent with the most luxurious floor coverings I could find. The huge buffalo hide that greets you as enter the tent is unbelievably thick and heavy. You’ve never floated on something quite like this with the thickest part of the cape exceeding 6 inches. On the other side of the bed is a New Zealand sheep skin that has to be felt to believe. These are extremely hard to remove mud and stains from, so we thank you for adhering to this policy. A boot tray is available to your left as you enter the tent.

We love dogs and have an amazing space here for pets to run that is safe from traffic and other threats. We love to host pets but we want to make clear that there is an additional $30 pet cleaning fee. This is for the extra cleaning and removal of hair and deep cleaning required for the guests that have allergies or not pet familiar. Also the existing floor coverings will be replaced with more pet friendly cow hides and faux fur rugs if pets are present. Thank you for your understanding.

There is so much the Black Hills have to offer. We can’t wait to share everything to do here. Pets are welcome, they will love the freedom they can experience here without the risk of traffic or harm. NOTE THE ADDITIONAL CLEANING FEE PER PET.

We don’t charge extra for children regardless of number. The extra $30 per person after 3 guests applies to adults or couples only and is charged per night.

This is an off the grid campsite. It is self sufficient camping, there is NO ELECTRICITY, everything is battery/solar operated. The toilet has no running water and is a composting variety. We DO have running potable water for shower, sink, and drinking.

We believe vacation is a perfect time to reconnect with loved ones. We DO NOT have WiFi at the tent. There is spotty cell service on the property depending on your service provider. Texting almost always works. I also have a battery/solar charging station to keep your electronic devices charged.

It is our hope that you look forward to a few days “unplugged” and enjoy your significant other, family, and all the beauty surrounding you.

NOTE: I KNOW PETS ARE IMPORTANT AND ARE MOST WELCOME. HOWEVER, I NOW CHARGE AN ADDITIONAL $30.00 CLEANING FEE PER PET. THIS IS DUE TO THE EXTRA LAUNDRY AND DEEP CLEANING EXPECTED BY NON PET OWNERS THAT ARE ALSO OUR GUESTS. PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE BEDS OR BEDDING, PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.

Please, no unannounced pets.

Neighborhood highlights

We are located just outside Keystone, SD, just minutes from all the major attractions. There are so many things to do here. Just 15 minutes to Mt Rushmore, 30 minutes to Crazy Horse. We have caves and amusement parks just 5 minutes away and unlimited hiking for all levels. Keystone has many restaurants and groceries. Rapid City is 25 minutes away for shopping and bigger selection of eating options. At the tent you have a few cooking options. There is a Weber gas grill, a Camp Chef propane cook stove, there is the wood burning stove that has a cook top...great for coffee or tea in the morning. The deck coffee table converts to a fire table and you can’t go camping without making S’mores! All the fuel, including the wood and kindling is supplied by your host.

Hi, I’m John. I’ve been living on this property for 18 years with my wife and two daughters. I’ve recently decided that it was long over due that I share this magical place with visitors from around the world. I felt that the best way to do this is with a glamorous camping tent, “glamping”. This enables our guests to truly get back to nature and experience the Black Hills and everything they have to offer without roughing it too much! My number one goal is to provide you with an experience that is never forgotten. A much needed reprieve from our hectic lives and most importantly, quality time spent with those most precious in your lives. I’m an adventurous person, travel frequently, easily bored, not afraid to try anything once, and I’m truly excited to share the Black Hills experience with you!
