One of the 10 most beautiful villages in Italy- according to the Huffington Post- Sorano is an exceptionally well preserved medieval hill town in the Alta Maremma area of Tuscany.

The space

The location of Sorano is ideal. Equidistant from Rome and Florence. 45 minutes from Orvieto to the East, and 45 minutes from Orbetello and the beautiful Costa d'Argento of the Mediterranean to the West. 75 minutes to Siena. 25 Minutes to the lovely Lake Bolsena. Described by a guest as a "nid douillet"- a cosy nest-, the "Swift's View" apartment is located in the historic center of the town, and affords wonderful views down to the valley of the Lente river over terra cotta roof tops. The name of the apartment is inspired by the ethereal birds that nest in the volcanic tufa stone walls of the town. Wifi is available and parking is a short walk away. The apartment is 40 sq. meters or 430 sq. ft. and is on 2 levels. The main floor is the living area and kitchen, with a large 14th century fireplace and a pull out couch that could sleep an additional 2 people. The lower floor, accessed by three steps, contains the bedroom and bathroom. The bed was built into a lovely 13th century nook, that most people find quite charming. The bed is slightly irregular, but is essentially a double size- 155cm x 195cm/ 61in x 78in. Both the head and the foot of the bed are walls, so if a guest is taller than 190 cm. or 6' 4" one might feel somewhat constrained. At the top of the bed, there is also a 24cm/ 9in square of wall that slightly protrudes into the bed area. The woolen sprung mattress was custom made. There is, also, a comfortable queen sized pull-out couch in the main living room. The owner/host lives in the adjacent 3 bedroom house, which is also available to rent by special request. Both places were renovated as period homes with great attention to detail by the owner, and are furnished with lovely antiques. The cul-de-sac, where the apartment is located, can be used to eat al fresco- and the opposite cantina is usually open for an excellent glass of homemade wine. From May, 2015 I have listed another apartment- Casa Bianca in Tuscany- which is directly opposite this property. The two apartments, if available, can be rented together, and a special rate can be arranged.

I'm pretty easy- and I usually will be your next-door neighbor, as my home is adjacent to the rental apartment. Sorano is a very quiet place, so as long as you respect the peaceful atmosphere, all will be well.

We had the best family holiday staying in Sorano. Communication was fantastic, Chris had freshly baked bread, homemade wine and apricot jam waiting for us. Sorano is a magical town and Chris provided us invaluable information about places to visit and where best to eat. We had such a great time we cancelled our trip to Rome so we could stay longer. We would love to come back.

Chris's properties are really beautiful and he's a very knowledgeable expat. We were meant to stay in this one, but as we are very tall (both more than 185cm / 6 foot) the bed was a little small for us so we had the option of either the sofa bed or his next door property. The other property is called Casa Bianca Tuscany if you want to (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) it - both properties are beautifully decorated with lovely rustic touches. Chris thought of everything for our stay, from recommendations of a restaurant on a beach (L'Ultima Spiaggia = The Last Beach) around an hour away, and lots of homemade delicious things! We also enjoyed the company of the various cats owned or fed by Chris. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend either of Chris's properties. Thanks for a great stay!

Sorano is such a special place and Chris a most wonderful host. His appreciation and love of this location was most generously shared with us over our 3 day stay. Assistance with places to eat and visit made this visit very special. Walks around the town, & along the river reveal fantastic aspects of this perched village. Advice for places we visited further afield was enthusiastically followed and valued. Chris' space that we rented overlooked the valley far below. It is compact and charming. Decor is artful and understated and Chris supplied us with his delicious home made bread and condiments as well as the last in a vintage of a Sangiovese wine made by himself - extraordinary! He rates as the finest host in my experience.

Exceptional is an understatement. Not only is Chris an excellent host; but the ancient tufo apartment is filled with history, charm, and a stunning view of the valley and sunrise from the NE. Chris is one of the most informed people in the area of history, art, and local customs. Giving not only a place to sleep but a mental map and guide to take in the immense views, history, and mystery of the town and outlying areas. Ciao gratzie!

I have been in Chris apartment with my family for a short holiday and we all had a very nice and cozy experience. Everything listed in the ad was right there and we even received welcome gifts, such as self-made bread and wine. Place and furnishings were clean. The house is small but very pleasent. The view is fantastic. The village and its surroundings are amazingly beautyful. We got lost through narrow medieval streets and staircases, we trekked along Etruscan hollow caves, we had a bath in Soriano's hot springs and we made a tour at night trough the village cantina's to taste local food and wine.
