Description

The space

Our cosy 150 year old stone cottage in the heart of Roscommon is the perfect base for exploring the countryside, or just retreating into the tranquility in the stunning natural surroundings of our organic farm.

As cosy in winter as it is cool in summer, our nearly 200 year old cottage sits nestled in the middle of our farm. With stunning views across Finlough this charming cottage has had much needed TLC over the last decade that sees it ready for those looking to escape city living for a weekend or even if you're ready to disappear into the countryside for a month. We have flexible rates that will accomodate whatever time period you choose. Obviously when we run courses and events on the farm, the cottage can be either used during the weekend by visitors or as a site for staging indoor workshop sessions.

The cottage can sleep up to five people, with a central heating complemented by a superb solid fuel stove, and open fires. Reclaimed pitch pine floors and stone tiles along with a beautiful solid oak kitchen make this a lovely space to spend time in.

Read, write, relax and unwind and let the countryside wind you down in our herd house.

Guests have full access to our rambling property, including use of our fishing boat with its private jetty on a well stocked coarse fishing lake.

Guests will have the cottage to themselves, but may choose to help out on the farm if they so wish. There's always something to be done at Finlough!

Strokestown is a small but vibrant community, full of local charm, and with many popular festivals that take place in the vicinity, such as the Roscommon Lamb Festival, Percy French Festival and O'Carolan Harp Festival - and if you just want to escape the hustle and bustle some of the finest walks and rambles in the mid-west are located within a few minutes of the farm.

Bus from Dublin/Sligo/Westport comes to Strokestown, and trains from east and west stop at Roscommon (15 minute taxi) or Carrick on Shannon (40 minute taxi) so all parts of the countryside are accessible with a bit of planning. 3 bikes are kept on the property to allow guests to explore the countryside or get into Strokestown (20 mins).

I'm from Dublin, where I run a healthfood store, and also an organic farm in the countryside. I'm a food obsessive, and love all things attached to food culture. *Includes eating.
