  • GOOD
Les Charpenets apartment on Montmartre is just like you hope a classic parisian apartment would be: quirky, authentic, charming and smack in the middle of the convivial hustle and bustle of Montmartre. It is super central, yet in a secluded tranquil yard.

    Bedroom 1 and kitchen
Nice doublebed. Very comfortable according to my parents who slept there.
Kitchen is small, but well equipped

    AVERAGE
    Bathroom
Separate toilet and bathroom/sink/shower. No shower stand.

    BAD
    Bedroom 2 (the living room)
Terrible wrought iron sleeping couch that should be thrown out. 10 cm thick mattress that when you lay down on it, it subsides (email hidden) cover over the metal barred bottom of the bed. You wake up with prison stripes on your aching body.

    Linens
The bed-linens were provided but we had to make the beds ourselves. Not a big deal, and I wouldn't even bother to mention it if it were not for the other shortcomings of the apartment and the host. But it is anyway a small annoyance to have to make your bed when you pay around 110 euros pr night.

    No hot water on arrival
On arrival at 18.00 there was no hot water in the apartment. In a notebook with apartment information I read that the water tank was small and heated over night so we should use the shower conservatively. No problem. Unfortunately, when we arrived there was no hot water to conserve.
Very disappointing after 7 hours travel, not to be able to shower before dinner. I addressed this disappointment with Jean-Claude pr mail but the host didn't feel that this was a fault at all and offered no apologies. Only placed a vague blame on the cleaning-staff for using a lot of hot water and ended his responses with the classic and charming "I would like to underline that this is not a hotel". Very nice. Apparently he feels that guests expecting to take a hot water shower upon arrival are having to high expectations. I fundamentally disagree and would be sorry and embarassed if this happened to guests in my apartment.
The following day the water had heated up and we had no problem taking 2 showers each pr day. The cleaning personnel must really have gone bananas with the hot water before our arrival:)

    TO SUM UP
    1. If you are a "glass is half full"-type, want a nice apartment in a very nice area and are comfortable risking making your own bed and taking an ice cold shower before going out, this is definitely the apartment for you.

    2. If you want a nice apartment in a very nice area where you come to a readymade bed, and a host that feels providing guests with a hot shower is part of the basics of hospitality; you should pick another apartment.

  • Stayed at Jean-Claude's flat while running the Paris Marathon. It's much bigger than I imagined it to be from the pictures, and it had lots of windows and natural light coming in. We loved all of the art work and little objects they used to decorate the different rooms with. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches that were provided to us, such as ample towels, lotions, maps, dinner recommendations, etc... Jean-Claude was very flexible with our check-in/out time, which we really appreciated too. All in all, we had a wonderful stay.

  • We enjoyed a very nice stay in the appartment of the Charpenet family. It is situated in a very typical and elegant part of lovely Paris.

  • We had a good time staying in this flat in Paris for the weekend despite the rain all over two days. Flat is really nice and clean, and is perfectly located. Hospitable and helpful landlords. Interesting books in case you decide staying inside instead of wondering around beautiful city:)

  • Location of the apartment is wonderful. Very special area. And the ownwers are so friendly. Only the bad thing in this apartment; toilett is so small and kitchen needs a bit organization:-)
    Have a good holiday...

  • Beautiful and quaint French apartment in the heart of Montmatre. Location was perfect, within walking distance of all the sights as well being very close to the Blanche metro stop and supermarkets etc. The hosts were very nice to deal with, fast replies. The apartment is very well equipped. Definitely recommend!

  • Jean Claude and Cecile's apartment was fantastic. Spacious, airy and well stocked with everything you need. A fantastic location with lots of shops and restaurants nearby, with lots of handy local tips left for visitors. There is no noise in the apartment as it is through a small garden so very secluded. They were a pleasure to communicate with, always responding promptly with lots of information. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Paris!

    Response from Charpenet:

thank you so much Anna - and thank you so much for having watered the flowers, they survived to the heat thanks to you !!
Hope to meet you next time in Paris,
    Best regards,

  • We loved our stay in Jean-Claude and Cécile's apartment! It was in a perfect location, spacious and brightly lit with all the windows. The apartment has lovely decor and perfect for relaxing away from the busy Monmartre streets. It was very clean, comfortable to sleep in, and never too hot (even in july) The view from all the rooms in the house were scenic and romantic - whether looking at the courtyard garden or across to the adjoining apartment building. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else :) Thank you Cécile and Jean-Claude, we (Alice, Petra and I) will never forget this trip.

    Bisous!!
