Located in one of the most beautiful and ancient roman street, "salita del grillo" is famous for Grillo name's family during 19 century.
There are many legends associated with one of the members of this family who loved to make many jokes especially the Pope for whom he worked. The apartment is located in a picturesque building consists of 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom with shower, living room with kitchenette and double sofa bed. Ideal for families who want to save money and enjoy the beauties of Rome in total independence and relax
The area is called Monti and for me it's one of the best area in rome, not very known by the tourist but centrally situated, little narrow street with ruines everywhere and nice boutiques
Wifi is provided
Just to make it clear - I stayed at "Not expensive flat in central Rome"
Via degli Ibernesi, Rome, Lazio 00184, Italy. Most of the reviews here are for Valentina's other flat with the amazing terrace and sound system - this isn't that one!
This is a smaller flat - smack in the centre of Rome - less than 5 mins walk to Palazzo Venizia, 10 mins walk to the Colesseum, or in the other direction the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. Brilliant location.
It is on a quiet back street - with a Roman drinking water font right outside the door. It is on the first floor - you need to climb about 10 steps with luggage.
Valentina arranged a transfer from the airport €45 (the going rate for a standard taxi is €40 but I felt happier having a driver waiting for me at the airport. Very comfortable car and friendly driver - who didn't speak much English!)
The flat is brilliant. Very homely. (And not - as I feared, as this was my first time using AirBnB, full of people's private stuff - all cupboards and wardrobes are empty! It's clearly not lived in - just rented out to tourists!)
It's nicely decorated - reasonable sized lounge with sofa bed & flatscreen TV, small kitchenette with fridge and microwave. (The tap water is safe to drink!)
Bathroom with shower only (good strong shower). There is also a washing machine with full instructions plus an iron and ironing board.
Bedroom has a small library and a 'double' bed - which is in reality two single beds pushed together. Very comfortable though. The whole flat was very quiet. No noisy neighbours and no traffic noise. Very peaceful.
It's exactly as the pictures show. They are very accurate and a very fair representation of the flat.
Valentina was waiting outside when I arrived and showed me around the flat. She also gave me a local map and annotated it with some of her favourite restaurants - all very good suggestions! She was friendly & welcoming. The flat has a very secure entrance. Yale lock on door from the street, again on internal ornate gate, and the door of the flat which has a very strong 4-lock bolt.
The only niggle was that my flight was due at 2105 but was delayed by 25 minutes - and as she had been kept waiting I did get asked for an additional €20 as a 'late-check in' fee. It seemed just about reasonable as she had been kept waiting - but I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit surprised.
All in all - it's a lovely flat - which I would stay in again without hesitation.
All my correspondence with Valentina before I arrived was responded to very quickly and efficiently - and her English is very good!
Great host - great flat - 100% recommended if you want a home away from home in Rome!
Thank you for your nice and accurated opinion
When you told me that your flight was scheduled so late i told you about the extra fee...i begin to work at 8.00 am in the morning, i have a family so it's written on airbnb that check in is usually from 2.00 pm till 8.30 pm...you paid the extra for this and not for the flight delay
I'm sure you will understand it
Grazie di tutto
