Before I discuss the specifics, which are great, I want to say that Pete and Cathy and their home are what I like best about AirBnB. Besides being lovely people and hosts, they very much reflected Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz is not San Francisco and not Los Angeles and AirBnB gives you the opportunity to really see what a community values. Santa Cruz is a beach community that values a certain out-of-the-fast-lane culture. This is reflected in lots of ways but Pete and Cathy both reflect that and also deepen your feeling for it. They are intelligent, well read, engaged people. It isn’t just a relaxed culture they value but it is a foundation on which they have built a rich live. You won’t see this in Los Angles, which has many other great things ,or San Francisco. So staying here even for just two nights was an opportunity to drop into Santa Cruz.
The specifics are great. The home is very comfortable and the room charming and comfortable. Pete made a killer coffee cake and great coffee. Both Cathy and Pete were wonderful hosts who enjoyed sharing their home and New York Times and discussing all kinds of things. Lovely people. Besides getting to know them, the second highlight was bicycling down to the nearby beach. I was given a great beach cruiser bike and directions and recommendations. The cliffs right below their house are a perfect venue for watching dozens of surfers in the ocean and families cavort on the beach. Outstanding.
Pete and his wife Cathy were absolutely fantastic hosts. They have a 100% open door policy and were available any time we had questions or needed suggestions on what to visit nearby. The house is exactly as pictured-it's quaint, quite large, and has loads of character. Both the house and the hosts were a pleasure, parking was easy, the neighborhood was lovely, and the back gardens great. I would love to stay again!
Pete and Cathy were accommodating hosts. The house was great. Sitting by the pond in the backyard was sweet. My favorite part was riding the bikes provided to the beach.
The home is easy to find. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival.Pete is very knowledgeable about the area, having lived there since the sixties. Both Pete and Cathy are very personable, and make you feel comfortable in their home. IF you want to chat they enjoy conversing, and if you want solitude they give you your space . We enjoyed a midweek visit to the Monterey Aquarium via their complimentary guest passes ,( a big savings). We enjoyed our stay.
We had a lovely time with Pete and Cathy who are very gracious hosts and eager to chat and get to know their guests. They provide lots of helpful information if you are interested in restaurants or activities in the area. Thank you very much...see you again someday!
Pete wasn't there for my stay as he was holidaying with his family in SoCal, but the place was still gorgeous and welcoming, and Pete made extra care to communicate with us and assure we had all the amenities we needed. The garden is insane, don't pass it up!
We had a realy good time. Pete was a very kind and helpful Host. His appel cake was marvellous. "Lovely bedroom near beach "is a Place to come back.
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay in Santa Cruz. Pete was a great host. Room was comfortable and we felt very taken care of. I highly recommend staying hereif you are thinking of staying in Santa Cruz.
It was great staying with Pete, cozy little room and a fantastic house with big living room to laze around, loved the garden and Pete`s fresh coffee and cake in the morning. He was really helpful with directions an recommendations around Santa Cruz as well, seems to know everything from the best surf to Cafes and live music. Stay here when coming to Santa Cruz!!
Everything was wonderful! Excellent restaurant advice, coffee cake, and some of the friendliest cats ever.
