We love our cottage ' Athcot ' and its stunning surroundings..We hope you will love and cherish it as much as we do..!
Athcot is the Western most cottage on a terrace that sits in an open field on a clifftop on the South coast of the Isle of Wight……This is the most unspoiled stretch of coastline on the Island……10 people on the beach is crowded.
This beautiful, shabby CHIC & QUIRKY 1860’s former Coastguard cottage on a unique cliff top location with SPECTACULAR uninterrupted views to sea and surrounding countryside and beyond to The Needles is pretty hard to beat if chilling out by the sea is what you're after. However we are also close ( but not too close) to The Isle of Wight Festival & Bestival grounds and a twenty minute drive to Cowes Week- The UK's premier yachting regatta.
2 floors and a large attic ( accessed via the Master bedroom) fully furnished with good sized secure garden and Conservatory. 3 bedrooms in total (1 Master bedroom, 2 double bedrooms of which one is a great attic bedroom. 1 bathroom with clawfoot tub & electric shower with toilet + 1 downstairs toilet. Sleeps 6.
From our garden runs a pathway to the clifftop and the beach (100 m)- an unspoilt sandy beach, a great spot for swimming, kite boarding, surfing, beachcombing, fishing ( Seabass, Mackerel, Whiting, sometimes Cod! ) and arguably the best Lobster on the Isle. This part of the coast is also famous for Dinosaur fossils.
We are in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) on the Isle of Wight. You are surrounded by extraordinary landscape, wildlife and flora- apart from hens, chickens, cats, dogs and our neighbours goat (!) this area is populated by badgers, foxes, pheasant, partridge, buzzards, doves, rabbits, gulls, peregrine falcons on a daily basis.
The area is also renowned for its scenic walking and cycling routes and within easy reach of all the islands many attractions such as The Needles, Coloured sands at Alum Bay, nature and wildlife reserves, stately home Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle.

Just got back from IOW having stayed probably during the worst weather this year. Cottage was lovely with great views over a rather wild sea but was so cosy inside. Would recommend this to anybody who appreciates great views and being away from it all in a lovely charecter filled cottage with everything you need. Great for families singles old and young and the dog loved it too.
Really wonderful cottage, perfect for quiet relax after the festivities at Bestival 2013. Brilliant views, cosy cottage feel with all you require in a home left for your usage. I will be aiming to go back same time next year!
We had a lovely weekend break at this beautiful cottage. A wonderful location right on the coast line with wonderful walks within minutes of the cottage. Everything you need is there the kitchen is very well equipped and the bedrooms are decorated to a high standard and very comfortable with amazing views of the coastline. Wish we could have stayed longer, we would highly recommend this peaceful comfy cottage for a perfect get away.
I booked this cottage as a suprise for my parents and sister!
When we arrived and saw the cottage, they were so excited and happy! It really is beautiful and breathtaking there! This is an adress that actually should be kept a secret!
Amazing views, very quiet, a house full of character! It was clean, and lovely decorated... we just fell in love. Checking in was really easy, and well organised. My family and i would definetly come back or recommend this!
This is a lovely little cottage in a beautiful location. This rustic cottage has real charm, and is perfectly located for wonderful cliff-top walks.
Sadly, the path down from the cottage to the beach has collapsed, so the nearest beach is a drive away, but all the same, I would recommend the cottage wholeheartedly.
I rented this cottage for a weeks holiday with my 4 year old, best friends, their kids and two dogs. There was plenty of room for us at this wonderful cottage and we felt really relaxed and happy there. The situation is fabulous, views amazing, decor perfectly shabby chic (not too precious !) and we had the best holiday any of us had had for years. We really hope to return to this gem of a holiday spot.
We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage! and miss the place now I am home :) Lovely feel to the cottage and liked the decor. My 11 year old loved the loft room and enjoyed the garden and the cliff top walks. There were also toys for my 1 year old to play with so everyone was catered for. Would gladly recommend this place and have already told a couple of my friends about it as they were thinking of visiting IOW. I will hopefully be back one day, and do some more exploring from the cottage - as it is a good base to get to most places on the island. Stef is a lovely host and helped us with advice about Ferries and things to do. Thanks so much for letting us stay. x
The position of the cottage was fantastic & the bedrooms were done to a high standard but overall the house was quite dirty & the fridge/freezer was practically full of old food/jars. The bedroom cupboards & wardrobes were also full of the owners belongings.
Dear Holly. Thanks for your comments on the house. Im sad and very surprised to hear of your comments of the place being dirty as I pride myself on the cleanliness ( verging on OCD!) however as stated it is an old coastguard cottage from 1860's.. It comes with its quirks :). As for ' old food jars'- I live here and don't find it necessary to throw away mustard, ketchup, conserves for each time I have guests come and stay- As I live here regularly and as for private rentals go I think this is OK but perhaps Im wrong, will take it in mind. I sometimes have left eggs, milk and butter for guests to use ( on those occasion I have told them in advance so they know its fresh) which has been met with appreciation. This goes as well for your annoyance on using one droor ( out of 8 droors in two separate chests of droors) to leave a minimum of some essential clothing ( trust me its quite a job taking all out everytime I rent out!) - I apologise if that offended you so much. We love our cottage and very proud of it. We are very happy that Air bnb exists as a tool for us to share this special, unique rental space with other likeminded people with an understanding and likeness of private rentals rather than generic holiday rental sites. Have a nice rest of summer. Best, Stef
We (two adults and three teenagers) spent 10 days in this lovely spacious cottage in excellent weather. It is a beautiful, authentic relaxed home and the surroundings are exactly as stunning as we hoped. Breakfast in the garden with a view over the meadows and cliffs was awesome.
We had no car but hired mountainbikes from wightcyclehire - delivered the day we came. Lots of small villages with old churches, inns and thatched cottages within reach.
We ordered groceries from sainsbury's over the internet, when we were too lazy to cycle three klilometres to a nice grocery with local produce in Brighstone.
