About This Listing
We love our cottage ' Athcot ' and its stunning surroundings..We hope you will love and cherish it as much as we do..!
Athcot is the Western most cottage on a terrace that sits in an open field on a clifftop on the South coast of the Isle of Wight……This is the most unspoiled stretch of coastline on the Island……10 people on the beach is crowded.
This beautiful, SHABBY CHIC & QUIRKY 1860’s former Coastguard cottage on a unique cliff top location with SPECTACULAR uninterrupted views to sea and surrounding countryside and beyond to The Needles is pretty hard to beat if chilling out by the sea is what you're after. The cottage is however kitted out with all your necessities for a peaceful and stressfree stay. We are also close ( but not too close) to The Isle of Wight Festival & Bestival grounds and a twenty minute drive to Cowes Week- The UK's premier yachting regatta.
2 floors and a large attic ( accessed via the Master bedroom) fully furnished with good sized secure garden and Conservatory. 3 bedrooms in total (1 Master bedroom, 2 double bedrooms of which one is a great attic bedroom. 1 bathroom with clawfoot tub & electric shower with toilet + 1 downstairs toilet. Sleeps 6.
From our garden runs a pathway to the clifftop and the beach (100 m)- an unspoilt, wild sandy beach, a great spot for swimming, kite boarding, surfing, beachcombing, fishing ( Seabass, Mackerel, Whiting, sometimes Cod ) and arguably the best lobster on the island.
This part of the coast is also famous for Dinosaur fossils. Please do note this is a wild beach and to get down to the beach you need to walk down the clifftop via a pathway sinked in to the cliffwall- children accompanied. For easier access to the closeby beach either drive 5 min along the coast or drive to Freshwater or Ventnor ( 15-20min).
We are in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) on the Isle of Wight. You are surrounded by extraordinary landscape, wildlife and flora- apart from hens, chickens, cats, dogs and our neighbour's goat (!) this area is populated by badgers, foxes, pheasant, partridge, buzzards, doves, rabbits, gulls, peregrine falcons on a daily basis.
The area is also renowned for its scenic walking and cycling routes and within easy reach of all the islands many attractions such as The Needles, coloured sands at Alum Bay, nature and wildlife reserves, stately home Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle.

North London Shabby Chic in Wonderful West Wight.
From booking or even 'pre booking' Stef was on hand to answer our questions quickly and accurately.
We rented the whole property and all arrangements prior to getting to the accommodation were great.
The property itself is in one of the most spectacular places in the world! The views from all around are fantastic and the sunsets are unforgettable. The house is comfortable, clean and rustic/shabby chic. The beds were beautifully made up and the pillows were so so comfy-where did you get them? What makes the house so charming is not only the lovely location but the funky decoration throughout-you have a good eye for nick knacks!
The private road leading to the house is our only little moan-I wouldn't recommend a low level sports car, as there are a few holes and dips to negotiate-this shouldn't deter you from spending time in the cottage as the rustic charm really made our trip a memorable and happy one.
Lots of lovely villages very near by, but a car is a must if you want to visit the other delights the Isle of Wight has to offer. The whole airbnb experience was great and Stef went all out to make it a very special one.
The house is literally on the top of a cliff (being a coastguard cottage a necessary location) and therefore is very windy when the wind is up.
Downstairs, the loo is helpful, kitchen and dining areas were great and spacious, lovely dining area and a great belfast or similar sink to wash up (dishwasher available). The master bedroom affords views over the channel and towards the Needles (West Isle of Wight). The bed is comfy as and I didn't wake up with a bad back as I normally do in new beds. Spare room also comfy and Stef's little touches of charm are all around. Some lovely pieces of art and books to amuse throughout the cottage. Attic room is a fabulous, but stairs are steep.
Bathroom is fab and shower (electric) worked well. We never ran out of hot water whilst there (tank lasted well).
We already checked on availability for July-but it looks like it is already booked out.
We recommend this cottage for anyone wanting a really relaxing and fashionable break. Kid and dog friendly-it ticks all the boxes.
Simple living made simple!!
Enjoy! We did, thanks Stef.
Great location to explore the isle. Stef provided a very informative welcome pack. Great time was had by all
Stef was wonderful and extremely attentive and responsive. We had a wonderful time on the Isle of Wight!
Lovely charming place, welcoming, comfortable and pleasant caring hostess who kept in touch at all times and offered help regularly - not that we needed it! All was good.
The host was very welcome, the house lovely and charming, we felt welcome and enjoyed the nature and location. The host helped us prepare for the trip and our expectations matched what we paid for. The house was even more charming than anticipated! Thank you for this great experience and guidance about where to go and what to see.
We had the most amazing stay at Stef's Clifftop cottage & didn't want to come home! We stayed for four nights in September and were lucky to have incredible sunny weather the whole time- so really made use of the garden & cliff top walks.
The house really is a home away from home- beautifully furnished with a nice relaxing lived in feel. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals each day & the dish washer was a blessing! The lounge area was lovely and snug on an evening and we made good use of the conservatory. Bedrooms were very comfortable- nice crisp bedding :) and every window in the house provided another stunning view!
The house is very secluded & peaceful- around 20 minutes drive to Ventor for shops/ cafes etc. The beach (a scramble down the 'steps' cut into the cliff edge) was incredible & we had the whole thing to ourselves every day.
All in all we loved every minute of our stay and returned home relaxed, tanned & smiling. Thank you to Stef for letting us share your home- we will be back!
