Need a comfortable friendly place to stay while visiting URI, attending a wedding or just enjoying marvelous South County Rhode Island's beaches and outdoors? Our large home is set on 4 acres and surrounded by lovely gardens. It was built in 3 stages, one section dating to the 1700's, another to 1972 and our own addition built in1996. We are located along the southern shore of RI, near the University of RI, a few minutes to beaches, 25 minutes to Newport, 45 minutes to Providence.
We offer a large bedroom on the first floor with queen bed and a bath with shower across the hallway, normally only used by the guest in that room. (Another bedroom with double bed and private bath with tub/shower. - see the photos - is sometimes also available.)
We are a couple in our 70's, transplants from Brooklyn, he a retired architect, she a retired city planner. Sometimes present at our home also are our grown children, grandkids and our daughter's large, old and gentle Newfoundland dog, Tucker. But, more likely, it would just be the two of us.
The village of Wakefield is 1.5 miles away with restaurants, shopping, and a 7-miles paved bike path. Beaches are a short bike ride away or 4 minutes by car.
There is a public bus to Providence and the airport is within 1.5 miles of house. RI buses have bike racks. Kingston Train station (Amtrak) is 18 minutes by car. Greene Airport serving RI is 30 minutes or less by car.
NO SMOKING ALLOWED IN HOUSE. Pets might be accommodated.
We had a lovely night's stay at Karen and Bob's home last week. Though our visit was quite short (we had a very early ferry to catch), Karen showed us around their beautiful home and we felt most welcome. The description of their accommodation is accurate; we recommend it as a very comfortable and quiet place to stay.
From our arrival to our departure, Karen & Bob made us feel welcome. Their home is lovely and unique and our room was very comfortable. They are wonderful hosts and very knowledgeable about the area. We will look them up again the next time we're in the area.
Karen and Bob were wonderful hosts. They gave us valuable information about the area. We also had several great conversations. The accommodations were perfect for us. Even with the extreme heat of New England during out stay, our room had a pleasant and cooling breeze at all times. We had no problem sleeping at night. We had two delicious and healthy breakfasts before we headed out on our adventures. Their gardens were lovely. We wish we had more time to spend in them. Overall our visit was great. We will definitely stay there on our next trip to explore another part of Rhode Island. We would highly recommend this location.
Karen and Bob Votava are incredible hosts from start to finish. They went out of their way to accommodate every need, from check in timing to complimentary breakfast. They are really such sweet people. The room itself was very cozy and a private bathroom makes you feel like you have your own suite at a B&B in the countryside. I would 100% recommend this as an option to those traveling in Rhode Island, and will definitely be in touch with the Votava's on my next trip to RI. Many, many, thanks!
Wonderful couple and beautiful house! Karen drove my friend and I to bus station and pick us up whenever we need. Many interesting and exciting conversations with her are definitely an important part of our happy stay there. The location is perfectly close to both downtown Providence and the beaches as long as you take the bus or have a car. I would recommend this house to anyone who wants to travel in Rhode Island:)))
Bob and Karen are gracious hosts. We had a wonderful time at their home. They luckily have a grandchild the same age as our son so there were lots of great toys to keep him occupied. We had two great breakfasts, one especially wonderful out on the deck. The fact that. It had rained three inches the day before made the day seem even more spectacular. They are generous with their knowledge of the area While being understanding that one afternoon we just wanted to laze around and do nothing (we're farmers so having the chance to do nothing this time of year is a luxury.) The house and gardens are very beautiful. We really enjoyed our short time there.
We had a great stay...beautiful home and hostess.
We had a wonderful time staying at Karen's country home. Out hosts were wonderfully friendly and helpful. We shared a great breakfast all together in their beautiful garden. Great place, great people! We would definitely go back!
Our stay at Karen and Bob's was very good - they were very welcoming and accommodating to our plans and comings and goings. I'd definitely recommend their home as a great place to stay while you're visiting RI's South County beaches.
Karen and Bob have a beautiful home located near (15-20 minutes) from the Block Island Ferry at Point Judith. They were great hosts--friendly and very knowlegeble about the area. The home and our room felt very comfortable to us.
They were looking after their daughter's Newfoundland dog -an older gentleman dog who was also very friendly--and with a face that, used very well by him, begged you to pet and feed him. Petting was fine, feeding was not.
We enjoyed our stay and will certainly come back here the next time we are in the area.
