  • I had a very enjoyable stay at Upfront (Michael's) AirBnB on my recent trip to San Diego. I occupied the blue room, which I believe is the best room in the house since it has a nice balcony that has a great view of the skyscrapers of downtown San Diego and the Harbor and ocean area. The house has been updated to accommodate guests similar to a B & B. One has the use of a modern kitchen and the whole first floor. The outside area provides a nice garden area and respite from the hectic pace of being a tourist. The outdoor jacuzzi was a welcome delight. Eric was very accommodating to my need to store my luggage after checking out. I definitely would stay again.

  • The house has been beautifully restored and is located near the downtown and Balboa Park areas. The room was comfortable, with its own little balcony overlooking the San Diego area. Although, located under the flight path to the San Diego airport, I slept soundly. I was met by Eric and Nita who took care of my few needs.

Parking in the area is a challenge, especially at night on the weekend. If the driveway were fixed up, one more car could park there. The tv in the room was not working properly--something the hosts need to know more about--how to work the tv.

Overall, a very nice stay, and I would recommend the place.

  • Our stay was nice overall. The house was clean and the location was fine (we took the bus to most places). There was one major issue, though: the house is right in the landing path of the San Diego airport. That means you have jets flying almost directly above the house as often as every 5 mins, 24/7. This kept us from sleeping well. It wouldn't have been such a problem had we known about it in advance.

  • This was my first Airbnb experience and it was just what I was looking for. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The downstairs bathrooms could have used some love, but not terrible. Eric, on staff manager, was very pleasant, responsive and helpful.

  • My boyfriend ran his first marathon in San Diego when we stayed in the Blue Room. The house was positioned walking distance from the starting line (even cabs couldn't get much closer), and the blue room provided enough room for pre & post run foam rolling. The private balcony directly off the room harbored a lounge chair and the best view from the house, making it an ideal spot for recovery. Even with other guests staying at the house over the weekend, there was plenty of room in the fridge for the food and drinks we needed to be cold. We were also allowed to wash our wet sweaty clothes, very grateful for that. We made good use of the hot tub and enjoyed a couple great restaurants in Little Italy, just a short walk away. During the marathon I was also able to walk down the street and take a Pilates class. Michael's house was the perfect spot for all our needs.

I did take a walk down to the Finish Line by Petco Park which was about 2 miles away, and took me 30mins. With the right shoes, and tunes, it's doable. If not the cab fare is about $8-$12. It is true, the location is very close to the airport, but planes run like clock work so your sleep isn't disrupted, and the house is well insulated so you can't even hear the normal city noises like sirens or loud cars.

Michael's house was left in care of Eric who's relaxed attitude eases you instantly into to vacation mode. The other staff and guests were as pleasant. The atmosphere is fantastic, if you are up for a chat you'll find a traveler to talk to, but if you want to keep to yourself, everyone respects that as well.

The landscaping on the grounds is impressive, lots of porch and patio enjoyment. We even met a delightful hobbit working in the shire. If you're lucky you'll get to see him too.

  • I was in town for a week-long conference at the San Diego Convention Center. I appreciated the reasonable price of accommodation but it was much further away from the SDCC than the listing had me believe. Beware, if you're in town for a conference, it was a loooooong walk (1.5 miles) up the hill at the end of each day. The pictures shown in the listing are an accurate representation of the accommodation and it's in a nice section of the city (very close to Little Italy). Yes, the planes literally fly right over the house, but surprisingly they didn't cause me any headaches or lost sleep. The house is soundproofed well. I never met Michael because the house apparently is now overseen by a man named Eric. Unlike other Airbnbs that I've stayed in, this accomodation feels more like a hotel than living in someone's home. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it was a different experience than what I was anticipating.

  • Our stay in the Blue Room was great, we wished we could have stayed longer. Arriving and check in was super easy. Eric, the house manager, was very friendly and accommodating and showed is around the house. Our bed was really comfortable and the harbor/skyline view from our room was great! They provided a list of local eateries within reasonable distance, so we tried one out. I really appreciated the personal touch of this home, much more inviting than a "stuffy" hotel!

  • Beautiful room in a beautiful house! The location and amenities were great and just as expected. There was a bit of confusion with checking in, we actually only met Eric, but everything worked out.

  • This was my first Airbnb experience and it was a great one! The location was great. It was near Balboa park, the zoo, and downtown and was in a laid back, quiet neighborhood. The room was comfortable and had a great view of the city from the personal patio. Everyone I met was extremely friendly and helpful. It was so much better than staying in a hotel downtown. I will definitely stay here again when I'm back in SD.
