About this listing
Smack in the middle of a tropical jungle is this quaint little 3-level, 75 year old colonial apartment building. Despite the wild setting, inhabited with hornbills, king fishers, parrots and squirrels in the day turning to the nocturnal sounds of wildlife and owls at night - there is hardly a mosquito to ruin your stay!
The design of this beautiful colonial building is an open concept, and since it is situated on one of the highest plateaus with no obstructions around the area, it enjoys strong cooling breezes all year round. Every guest who has graced this dwelling has told me that this apartment is a breath of cool air in this tropical island.
After my description above, one might think that I live in seclusion. In fact far from it. According to the map, we are more central than the entire down town area of Singapore. We are literally 10-20 minutes away from anywhere by cab – the main shopping district of Orchard Road, the historic Chinatown, Clarke and Boat Quays or the restaurant oasis of Club Street. The Central Express Way aka CTE is at our next junction. You can’t get any more convenient than that.
As a guest, you will be very much welcomed in my home. So let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. I used to be an entertainer, starting out as a model in San Francisco when I was sixteen, followed by being a MTV and Channel V VJ before I got myself a talk show spot in Taipei, Taiwan. I have now traded glitz and glamor for a Ph.D. I’m quite open on (website hidden); please do check it out if you want to know more about who Rick Tan, (website hidden), really is. I do believe that wisdom is knowledge through one’s experience, so let’s trade stories about our life experience.
I also feel that everything is possible - all you need to do is ask. I’ll make your stay in Singapore an amazing experience that you will brag about it to your friends for years to come. I have been told time and again that I’m a great ambassador for Singapore, so rest assured you will go back with plenty of knowledge, insights and wonderful moments.
You might want to do the touristy thing, but if you are looking forward to a true local Singapore experience, then I’ll show you around whenever I want to catch a breather from my Ph.D. research, I’ll let you know so that you can plan in advance. I look forward to seeing you in Singapore. Rick.
Laundry is SGD$20 per load inclusive of ironing.
And last but not least, please be aware that pre-approved does mean that it's confirmed. It's all first come first serve. Please do not wait till the last moment because others might have booked it already and I won't be able to do anything about it.
I'm sorry I have to put this disclaimer down for there were many incidences where people ask me why they can't book it after they have been pre-approved and that's the reason why.
Thanks for checking my dwelling out.
1) Smoking is only allowed on the balcony.
2) Help save the environment by not wasting water and electricity.
3) Close the windows and turn off all electricity if you leave the apartment for a substantial period of time.
4) Most importantly relax and communicate with me to make your stay much more comfortable.
very lovely room and good location，we have a short talk with Rick，but i can feel Rick is a person who love freedom so much。i hope i can stay here again when i travel to SI
Rick's place was lovely, so different to other places we've stayed in Singapore. Rick was super helpful and the apartment is great.
Rick is always engaging and willing to go the extra mile to ensure your experience is smooth and trouble free. Nothing requested was a chore. Accommodation itself is spacious, relaxed, well location to train station and bus stops. I have not problems giving Rick my highest recommendation!
All of Rick's great reviews are not hyperbole. He is an amazing, generous host, and the apt is gorgeously styled with impeccable taste. It happened to be rainy while I was in Singapore, which can be a nightmare for cabs. But Rick's apt is located a very short walk from the MRT. I would definitely stay again, and not hesitate to recommend.
I have stayed with Rick 3 or 4 times now and as usual an excellent stay. He is a great host and certainly is very very helpful with anything. I recommend strongly, that if you get a chance, stay with him. The area is lovely and green and so close to the city.
I had a quick trip to SIngapore, initially i was booked to stay at Rick's other "Tiffany apartment" but then he ever so kindly invited me to stay at his own home, helping my budget (as the room is very fairly priced) and of course the location is incredible for Singapore! Rick's wonderfully curated apartment is an oasis of calm and creativity, in the middle of a rain-forested area.
The arrival was perfect and the stay was 100% amazing,
i wasn't there much, due the number of meetings i had, but when i was, Rick was an incredible host and I thank him again for being so kind, giving me a more than late check out.
The location is actually very central, although you get the feeling you're miles away from the City area, actually it's just 5 metro stops away, literally 10 mins by MRT train and a VERY short walk.
I have travelled to Singapore 3 times a year, staying at boutique hotels, which are ok, but really nothing compared to the type of experience you find at Rick's. I highly recommend!! Whether you're holidaying or on a business, PERFECT!
i will return and I can't wait to see the new places Rick is renovating and interior decorating, he's an artist and anything he touches turns into a beautifully curated context for others to explore and experience. I believe Rick to be the star of air bnb in Singapore.
I have never been to an Air bnb place and been treated as well as Rick! He is the perfect host - hhe had a drink when I arrived, helped me with meals and was just the perfect host - sharing music and video clips and info on how to get places.
Rick is thhe most gregarious and upfront guy you will ever meet and his place is as lovely as described. Don't skip it if you are considering - can't recommend it more!
