  • Amazing place to stay at !

    April 2014
  • Maria and Bary's place is beautiful! It's in a great location right on the beach and has a beautiful salt water pool. The room is quiet and private with a very comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. Our bed was made and fresh towels were provided every day. Staying here was much better experience than the hotels in town.

  • A wonderful host and a beautiful home.
From the moment we arrived Maria set the tone for our stay. She was there to greet us, was readily available to answer any queries- booked a restaurant for us- and checked bookings we'd made with tour operators, however she also made it clear that she would not intrude on our privacy. This worked perfectly. Fresh supplies left daily for breakfast and our suite cleaned. On arrival Maria drove us downtown to get our bearings and point out various restaurants. Finally our suite at Paradise Villa was beautifully decorated and every need was thought of. The gardens and pool area were amazing and we loved sitting by the pool enjoying a glass of wine.
Thank you Maria and Barry, we lived Port Douglas and especially Paradise Villa.

  • I would highly recommend Maria and Barry’s absolutely beautiful accommodation. Private & secluded with a bit of luxury thrown in. Our host were always on hand whilst never intrusive and provided an exquisite tropical breakfast to kick start the day. Maria really has though of everything and that was greatly appreciated. The pool and in particular the gardens are such a fine example of tropical Queensland and quite obviously lovingly cared for. A real treat at the end of a long journey. Thanks again

  • Maria was the perfect host; she gave us great tips of what to see in the local area, made up our room everyday and provided us with a wonderful tropical breakfast whilst still remaining completely unobtrusive. The villa is beautiful and the pool is such a bonus. I highly recommend this place.

  • Paradise Villa is the perfect accommodation on Four Mile Beach, every detail has been thought of, the surroundings are beautifully manicured tropical gardens with your own private pool, the accommodations are sparkling clean and refreshed every day as is the superb breakfast of fresh fruits, cereal, bread, juices and fresh milk. It is like staying in a private villa on a private island in....well, Paradise.
It was a bonus meeting Maria and Barry, we could have chatted with them forever.
If you are lucky enough to find this Paradise open for the dates you will be in Port Douglas, you better book it now, there is nothing better and you will love it here!

  • Our first experience of AirBnB and we were very satisified with the experience. Maria and Barry were fantastic hosts and there was nothing they could have done better. I genuinely mean that. The place was very clean and tidy. A beautiful tropical garden and very swimmable pool! We were also pretty chuffed with all the tasty food that was supplied for breakfast. Would definitely stay here again if we're in the area!
    THanks again Maria and Barry!

  • My wife and I have spent the last three and a half weeks in Australia (our first trip 'down under') and this truly was paradise. Having travelled up from Melbourne and Sydney, we spent eight nights in Port Douglas and loved every second spent in Maria and Barry's private villa. The property is exactly as described and although the photographs are amazing, they do not do it justice. The villa is kept clean and tidy and a comfortable and pleasant stay is ensured by the hosts, who are both friendly, welcoming and full of advice.

Within the first couple of hours of our arrival at the villa, Maria and Barry were happy to drive us into town and give us a brief tour. Not only did they inform us of the best restaurants, bars and shops, they took us to one of the best lookout spots at Flagstaff Hill and were happy to take photographs of us on our camera. We were extremely grateful, as you don't tend to get many pictures together as a couple! Maria and Barry made us aware that they were only next door if advice was needed on our planned trips to Kuranda (the scenic railway and Skyrail is a must) and of course, the Great Barrier Reef. The hosts were friendly without being overbearing and our privacy was respected at all times.

Breakfast provided is fantastic and many days we found we didn't actually need to buy lunch as the cereals, bread, jams, fruit juices and fresh fruits (a wonderful variety provided too) were enough to see us through to dinner. Some excellent coffee (I haven't seen Robert Timms in the UK, but I'll be looking for it!) and a range of teabags were provided and restocked each day too. Towels were regularly replaced and the place was kept neat and tidy during our stay with Maria even offering to do our washing up (we didn't want to take advantage though!)

The villa is in an excellent location. We found ourselves literally a three minute walk away from Four Mile Beach (amazingly peaceful beach) and a three minute walk in the other direction to a bus stop towards town. Buses are fairly regular and everyone we encountered in Port Douglas was extremely pleasant and helpful. The town is small, but has been a wonderful find for us and we loved every minute of it.

Finally, be sure to check out 'The Tin Shed' in town - cheap drinks, wicked atmosphere and an awesome view of the sea during the day. We enjoyed a lovely meal at 'Salsa' (highly recommended by Maria and Barry and it didn't disappoint) and don't ignore 'The Beach Shack' which is walkable from Paradise Villas. You can dine in the sand and they have some great options on the menu, including the macadamia crusted spangled emperor - there's plenty for the seafood fan in Port Douglas!

    Response from Maria:

Wow! Thanks for your comprehensive and excellent review, Martin & Anna. Hope to see you again if you are "Down Under".

  • We stayed at Paradise Villa for five days at the beginning of August and had a wonderful time. We could not recommend this place more highly. It was exactly as described. The room was extremely large, with a separate sitting area and kitchen area (refrig, microwave, electric kettle, french press, dishes, etc.) The lovely bathroom was separate but just a step outside the room and completely private. The best part was the patio area that opened onto a view of the pool and the gorgeous garden. It's important to point out that, although this was listed as a B&B, it was completely separate from the rest of the house and did not feel like the usual B & B experience. We never saw our hosts unless we needed to ask them something, and there is only one room, so you are the only guests. We loved the privacy and the pool. Maria and Barry were wonderful hosts. They left fresh breakfast foods in the refrigerator every day -- tropical fruits, cereals (including muesli), milk, yogurts, bread and jams -- and there was a french press for coffee and an electric kettle for tea. We bought wonderful cheeses and french bread at the local supermarket and had great breakfasts on the patio every morning. The place is exceptionally clean and there was "room service" every day -- the bed was made, fresh towels every other day. The location is on the beach but a few miles out of the town center -- we had a car so did not find this to be a problem. We thought that Port Douglas was the perfect beach town and would recommend it (and Paradise Villa) to anyone considering a vacation on the Great Barrier Reef.

  • I was a little worried about staying in Paradise Villas, as they didn't have many AirBnB reviews. Suffice it to say, my worries were totally unnecessary-- this was an amazing AirBnB experience. Paradise Villas has apparently been operating as a bed and breakfast for over a decade-- they're just new to AirBnB, hence the small number of reviews!
Anyhow: Maria and Barry's home is beautifully decorated, sparkling clean, and exactly as pictured. Maria was incredibly helpful booking airport transfers and Barry drove us into Port Douglas and gave us a mini tour on our first night. Breakfast foods were restocked daily and delicious-- nothing fancy, but a very nice selection of cereals, juices, some bread, milk, jellies and yogurts...exactly what we needed for a quick meal to start the day. The pool and garden area was beautiful as well.
Paradise Villas is also located conveniently close to the bus stop ($5 and very easy to catch) and the beach (a two minute walk away). There are a few small restaurants in walking distance, and of course, Port Douglas itself is full of places to eat. Both of our tour companies, one rainforest tour and one snorkeling tour, picked us up at our door. The tour companies, both recommended by Maria, were also exceptional.
My partner and I were so sad to leave, and would stay here again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.
