When you want to briefly live like a local in Brooklyn, you stay here.
Enjoy one of brownstone Brooklyn's finest neighborhoods in our spacious one-bedroom apartment. The architecture is very easy on the eyes and the food will have you ready to transfer everything you belong to Brooklyn (it did for us!). We're a two minute walk away from the busy Dekalb Avenue full of NYC restaurant gems. The BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) and Fort Greene Park are each around ten minute walk. Pratt University is a five minute walk. Barclay's Center is about a 10 minute walk as well. There's tons to do and plenty to eat around these parts.
TRANSPORTATION/METRO: The G train is on our our block. The C is about a 5 minute walk and will take you into Manhattan (G to the L might be quicker!). The B and D are a 10-15 minute walk and are express trains to Manhattan. Walk to Barclay's Center (15 minutes) for lines RND2345B7Q. Taxis are easy to get and cost around $20 to downtown Manhattan. NEW: There are three CitiBike stations within two blocks.
WARNING: This is a four-story walkup!!
WEEKEND BONUS: The Brooklyn Flea (Saturdays) is a block away and offers an amazing array of food vendors (lobster rolls, Korean hotdogs, fresh oysters, Dough doughnuts & more) to go along with a fine collection of overpriced used goods and decent clothing options. (from March until Thanksgiving)
AMENITIES: Futon: sleeps two. King size bed can fit 3! Parking = street, but easy. WIFI = included. Flatscreen with Apple TV. Air conditioning = yes.
The entire apartment.
Interaction with Guests
Minimal. We usually leave the keys in the lock box.
Probably the best neighborhood in all of NYC.
Subway station on the block.
Use the air conditioner only when present necessary. Please do not run it while you are out at all.
Water the plants please.
I stayed at this apartment over the Thanksgiving holidays with my three kids. The building is run down and in need of repair. The apartment is spacious and has a lot of light. It has not been renovated so don't expect hotel quality bathroom, kitchen etc...It reminded me of apartments located in older buildings in Europe. We didn't spend too much time in the apartment as we were exploring Brooklyn and Manhattan. I think there is one water heater for the entire building and it runs out quickly. Luckily my sister lives in Brooklyn and we were able to shower at her place. The biggest complaint I have is that there is no heat in the apartment. The apartment is advertised as having ac and heat. I can't say for certain if there is ac, but there is definitely no heat. I didn't see ducts for ac so I doubt there is central ac. I asked the owner about the heat and he replied, via text, "Sorry, as there is one for entire building that we do not have access to. It usually comes on at night."
If there is no heat or if the heat is not reliable ("usually comes on at night"), be up front about it. That way folks can make an informed choice as to whether they want to stay here or not.
Nevertheless, my kids and I had a great trip and just bundled up when we were in the apartment.
Thanks for the feedback, Carlos. We've never had an issue with the heat, it was working fine upon our return and our neighbors said the heat was fine over the holiday. We're really not sure why or how it was not working for you. Apologies for the inconvenience. - Mike
Mike's home was unbelievably delightful! Spotless, light filled and beautifully designed---and the bed was out of this world comfortable to boot! All this and a great, walkable neighborhood? Great heavens!
Mike also checked in with us Friday night to make certain we got in ok---what a gentleman!
Mike's home was an excellent weekend base for discovering Brooklyn. The apartment has been done up since the photos here and is really extremely elegant with two massive sofas and the huge living room is even bigger than it looks on these photos. It really is home from home, very relaxed, and in an excellent local, safe and chilled neighbourhood. I managed to walk all weekend visiting Olea for excellent Mediterranean food (US style), Lola's for brunch, the French Kitchen for coffee and the Brooklyn Academy of Music which is an enviable arts centre, with something for everyone or just to see the building. I would recommend Mike's apartment and would definitely book it again.
Mike was was an awesome host. He was very accommodating which made me feel welcomed. The apartment was clean and large enough for 3 adults and 2 year old. It is also located in a great location with a train stop (G) on the corner. Walking distances to restaurants, bars, coffee shop. I would def recommend this unit in Fort Greene.
The apartment of Mike and Melissa is a wonderful place to stay. It's nice, clean and very comfortable, a great place to relax after a long touristy day. The neighbourbood is quiet, safe and has a nice atmosphere (the nearby Brooklyn flea market is a must!). Also, Manhattan is easily accessible via metro. Given this was our first airbnb experience, Mike is a great host. He is extremely helpful and punctual in his communications. We had a great first airbnb experience thanks to Mike and we strongly recommend his apartment for a wonderful stay in New York.
MIke was a great host and his apt was perfect for our needs. His video tour of his home was informative and answered a lot of questions. We were a family of 4 and we found the place to be totally accommodating and comfortable. The king sized bed helped! The area of Brooklyn is also a perk -- right on the G train and also close to Prospect Park, where I took a run both days we were there. So, yes, Mike's place was super and we recommend it strongly.
This was my first airbnb experience and I hope it hasn't spoiled me for others. My girlfriend and my two kids and I gathered at Mike's and Melissa's place over the 2013 Christmas holidays and we had an excellent time. The place was cosy - and full of charm. We cooked every night. The neighborhood wasn't far from where I used to live (I recently moved from Brooklyn to L.A. - so this was a great home-coming) and is beyond awesome. Brooklyn is the best!!!!
Honestly, I can't speak highly enough of Mike and Melissa - or their place. They opened up everything in their kitchen to us - even left out a bottle of wine for us. Brooklyn hospitality at its best! One of the best holidays I've had.
