While the GristMill Place has a total of 5 bedrooms, when you book the 3 bedroom option you will be offered a combination of rooms with king beds (2) / queen beds (2)/ two single beds (1). There are two kitchens, on the main floor and another at the courtyard level. You’ll have access to two decks, closed in porch, outdoor spaces and games room. Note that there is also have a 5 bedroom listing available for a better value ($$) per room.

The space
The GristMill Place was built in the early 1800s allowing local farmers to bring their grains to be ground. It later became a furniture factory and then changed hands when construction of a massive three storey hotel with 40 bedrooms was built. Sadly, the hotel was burned to its foundations, under suspicious circumstances, before it ever saw it's first guest. An architect purchased the ruins and built a new house in 1949 and passed it on to his son, who made bats for professional baseball players and operated TomKat Bats. In 2011, your host, Gerald, purchased the property and undertook major renovations to transform it to what it is today.

Located on the shores of the Upper Rideau Lake, right next to the Westport Marina and at the edge of the quaint village of Westport, the GristMill Place is a perfect spot for those looking for access to the Rideau Canal system, hikes and trails in the Foley Mountain Conservation Area, the Rideau Trail running from Kingston to Ottawa, the public beach on Sand lake only a 3 minute drive, golf at two nine-hole executive golf courses and the convenience of small village amenities.

The Village of Westport is known as a great shopping destination with specialty boutiques, local bakeries, restaurants, coffee shops, a winery and brewery. The infamous Cove Inn, directly across the street, is known for great food and live music.

JFnKathy, as the new owners of the GristMill Place, will be hosting guests with support from Gerald, the previous owner, who will continue to act as your on-site host. Over the next several months, some extensive upgrades have been added to enhance your stay.

The Grist Mill Place, with its six (5) bedrooms + single bed pullout in small office, will be an excellent location for families, friends or small company groups to gather together during and after the pandemic for some relaxation time or to work remotely.

JFnKathy have been hosting guests through Airbnb at other locations since 2016.

Professional engineers, blended family for almost 20 years, with four children (3 girls, 1 boy). We normally love to travel as a couple and as a family although the latter is getting more difficult as our children are now either busy with university classes or working. Let’s add Covid to this and we are not going far but Westport is a great little destination for a mini vacation with our bubble.

We remind ourselves that everyday is a good day, some days are just better than others.
