A blacksmith's forge near the Bride River in the heart of rural Cork complete with vegetable garden and free range hens - leave the rat race for a day or two and put your feet up, or use as a base to explore the Rebel County and beautiful West Waterford.
We are 40 minutes northeast of Cork city, between the rivers Bride and Blackwater, in a beautiful recently restored 200 year old stone blacksmith's forge on the edge of an Irish rural village. Our home is fitted with eco technology including geothermal underfloor heating and solar panels, and with two wood burning stoves. We have a very large enclosed back garden complete with separate fruit and vegetable gardens, and hen enclosure with fresh eggs daily.
The double guest bedroom has been newly decorated (travel cot also available), the children's bedroom (when available) will suit up to three children and your bathroom contains a Victorian rolltop bath and shower. The kitchen/dining room is at the heart of the house with sofas and easy chairs around the wood burning stove, and there is also a sitting room with TV and piano. The kitchen opens up on to large south facing patio with table and chairs.
We are 15 minutes walk from our local village, where there is a small grocery store, post office, three pubs, two churches and a cafe. Cork is 40 minutes drive away, and is the second largest city in Ireland, on the south coast. Cork is renowned as the food capital of Ireland, containing the world-famous English market as well as great bars and restaurants. We are a 20 minute drive from Ballymaloe House, home to three generations of famous Irish cooks (all women!). The nearest large town is Fermoy, 15 minutes drive away for larger supermarkets, shops and restaurants. We are 15 minutes drive from the historic and beautiful town of Lismore, with its beautiful castle and gardens.
We have bicycles that you can use whilst here, and everything that you would need for a picnic when you're on a romantic walk or cycle in the area.
If we're away, up to five people can stay here, as up to three singles are available in the second bedroom. Also, we'd welcome couples travelling with a baby/toddler as we have a travel cot that will work perfectly in the double bedroom.
We like to exchange a few messages before we confirm your booking, so we look forward to hearing from you! Typically we need a few day's notice of your visit, but it's still worth asking even if it's last minute and we'll try our best to accommodate you.
We had such a wonderful visit with Caroline, Peter and Daniel. It felt like home. Peter baked a delicious fish pie for dinner one night. And of course, who could forget "Daniel's pancakes"!! They gave us great ideas of places to see -- we really enjoyed the gardens at Lismore Castle. Tom had a great time playing with Daniel and we enjoyed our mealtime conversations. They have a great house and even though we had a little trouble finding it, it was well worth the trip.
We had a great time staying with Peter and Caroline. We felt very welcome, were well-fed, and even met the family hens!
I only wish my daughter and I had been able to stay longer (or maybe move in?) in Caroline's deeply wonderful home. Because our hosts were away, we got to live a perfect fantasy in a world of happy chickens, beautiful cooking implements, meaningful books, and carefully chosen furnishings. We found food aplenty and a bottle of good whiskey waiting for us and we had such a sense of a life worth living.
The rural Cork location is exquisite as well and I am still dazzled by the experience. This place is very special and knows how to pamper its guests!
A very nice and modern room in a charming setting with organic garden and chickens out back. The hosts make you part of the family, and are very friendly and lovely people.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Eco Forge..... Warm hosts, warm bed and a very good breakfast. We would recommend staying here!
The Eco forge was a lovely rural home. We loved checking on the hens and collecting the eggs. The bed was comfortable and warm. The solar heated shower hot. We enjoyed the locals and what there was to do in this area. A real gem!
We had a wonderful time staying here! The family is as warm as they come and the house is both beautiful and comfortable. Caroline and Peter really went out of their way to make our stay special...and our two year old had a great time playing with their little boy!
I received a very warm welcome from Peter, especially so considering he was in the middle of preparing dinner, which I was invited to join. Great evening of chat and a lovely bed for the night. Could not wish for more. Many thanks. Tim
The term hospitality is often used and abused when it comes to accommodation. If you truly want to experience Irish hospitality, stay with Caroline and Peter at the Blacksmith's Eco Forge!
Our first Air BnB experience - surely they can't all be this good?! Exceptionally hospitable hosts who were lovely to chat to around the kitchen table but also careful to ensure there was peace and quiet in the mornings when we needed a lie-in! The home has an interesting history and the breakfast is highly recommended too.
