Large bedroom with twin beds and private bath in an elegant, 18th century mansion house. The room has original paneling and a private bathroom. Located in the center of town, minutes from Route 84, yet quiet and bucolic.
The room is situated in the center of town, but has the feeling of privacy and rural beauty. Walking is easy, amenities are many, and we are located at the gateway of the beautiful Litchfield Hills. We are minutes from Interstate Route 84, close to area schools, (Taft, Westover, Canterbury, the Gunnery, Rumsey Hall), 45 minutes from New Haven, 50 minutes from Hartford, and about an hour from Bradley Airport. New York City and its airports are about an hour and a half from here.
What a wonderful place! It was like spending a night in a museum. The house is about 250 years old and is authentically furnished, but everything is used daily, and not behind a Do Not Touch sign! Bedroom was large and conformable, and everything worked well in bathroom. Sarah was a pleasant and information-rich host, the sort of person you wold like to have as a good neighbor. Highly recommended!
As a native New Englander, it was wonderful to return to the area and spend a night in Sarah's incredible home. The huge fireplace with hooks and hanging pots downstairs, the back staircase worn from centuries of footsteps, the charming front staircase, and the antiques in the room we stayed in made us feel like we'd stepped back in time--it was very cool! Sarah was a lovely host, and we thank her for sharing her piece of history with us!
Staying at Sarah's house in Woodbury is like visiting a relative. The rooms are big and comfortable, you can enjoy conversations with a local historian and a wonderful person by the fireplace, use the kitchen if you need to, ask for tips on site seeing, flip through the books in the library. You might even get to enjoy wonderful homemade cookies or rice pudding if you are so lucky.
Sarah is really a lovely host, very soft spoken and interesting and there is something special about her 1790 house. It was my second time here and i enjoyed it even more than the first one. Planning on going back on spring if possible.
We had a very peaceful and relaxing time. Sarah is a great host and her home has a lot of interesting history. I am richer for the experience.
Sarah is very easy to get along with, and went out of her way to make us feel at home.
We loved our stay at Sarah's house in Woodbury, CT. The house is located right off Main Street, very quiet. It's a large house, so you feel very much in your own private 18th century world. The room was beautiful with a nice bath, great (and I mean really great) beds, very nice breakfast. We walked to a nice restaurant for dinner. Sarah was gracious and friendly. Highly recommend.
The house is lovely and very inviting, especially on a cold autumn evening. Friendly conversation by the glowing fire, wine, and warm hospitality make for a perfect way to spend time while in a quaint Colonial village. Sarah was very kind and welcoming, making us feel at home right away. I would definitely recommend this place to others.
We spent three nights at Sarah's house and enjoyed every minute! We hope to be back someday and would stay with Sarah again, if possible. The room was nice and it was such a unique experience to stay in this beautiful, historic house. Breakfast was great. Sarah is a wonderful host. We warmly recommend a stay at Sarah's house.
