Oh what a magical place! I was in love with everything about the 'Surf House' but to be honest it wasn't the place that captured me on its own (although it does do that regardless) but rather the energy and love that came with the whole 'family' that reside there (Carlos and his staff). Carlos is one of the kindest souls I've ever met. It was like having my very own Dad in Bali. He made sure I was ok everyday. As it rained for most of my time in Uluwatu (which was like a cosy cleansing blissful hug) I spent alot of my time just chilling around his property. And as I opted not to rent a scooter (it would be more ideal with one but all is walking distance if you enjoy proper walking aka 20mins downhill to the beach but a big fat half hour UPHILL home or an easy 20,000 rupiah scooter taxi) he drove me to get groceries, meet a friend of his, showed me all the sights and where to eat, brought me rambutans straight from his tree each day, introduced me to the 'King of all fruits' the Durian and even came out on his scooter one night when he thought it was too dark for me to walk back. He wasn't sure where I had decided to have dinner so had been in and out of restaurants telling them they must scooter me back should I come in to eat. Too lovely for words! And he did find me just before I commenced the uphill climb, thank you universe!! I can't recommend Carlos' home and his beautiful property enough. I was very fortunate that I was the only one staying there at the time so had free run of the pool but I imagine it would be lovely to meet others when the other two bungalows are also full. He also booked a driver for me to head to the East Coast after my time down South which was super convenient (as well as having his driver at the airport when I arrived). Carlos it was such a pleasure to meet you and I hope you're still enjoying the green smoothies for breakfast! Yes, I introduced Carlos to green smoothies .... I still need to send you the recipe via email :). Much love x x x
One will find two very unique, worldly personalities. Carlos, a very established painter, and his son, Falkwyn, an equally established photographer who try their best to keep themselves low key despite their talents! Both have hosted us over a 9 day period in Uluwatu.
They have two to three helpers, of whom were patiently waiting at the airport for us despite delays at immigration. Carlos took the time and trouble to welcome us, and show us around the entire area upon our arrival, despite the rain! Everything was perfect - our motorcycles were waiting for us, so was our accommodation - clean and neatly pressed sheets/towels - very much hotel like in detail!
Throughout our stay, Carlos and Falkwyn were always concerned with our welfare and that everything was taken care of - from food when it was raining, to ponchos/raincoats.
Rest assured, anyone who comes by their way will be in good hands. Especially if you're a surfer AND a food junkie - recommendations on where to eat and surf were always spot on!
Thank you once again, Carlos/Falkwyn - we'll definitely be back!!!
we had a wonderful time at carlos' place. it's the perfect location to explore this part of bali. we really liked staying with carlos - thank you so much for all your help. we will definitely come back to your place next time. happy new year + let's keep in touch :)
What a relaxing peaceful place to stay while visiting Bali. Near to the world class surf breaks without feeling smothered amongst tourists. There is a beautiful view of the ocean to be enjoyed while sitting for your morning coffee or evening meal. A scooter is a must which during my stay was graciously arranged by Carlos, I believe the cost is $5. Carlos is a very engaging, friendly host with loads of advice for the area. This could easily be a long term stay, enjoy!!
This place is a taste of heaven! Imagine waking up in a king size bed a bird park to your left and blooming flowers and the view at the ocean to your right. Then taking a swim in the pool or heading down 5 min to one of the best beaches in Bali. I was working in my thesis here, Carlos is a great guy and was very helpful with ensuring great internet connection and whatever else I needed.
Definitely one of the nicest places I stayed at in my life.
There is nothing more to say than: AMAZING. We had a wonderful stay at Carlo's house and we felt like friends from the first day on. Although I have lived in Bali before, Carlo's provided us with hidden treasures of the island. He is a very good painter and you will see this in every room of the house. When we needed advice, Carlos was always keen to help us out. Besides the fact that Carlos is a great host it is to mention that the spot were he lives is just wonderful. The apartment is clean, light and very cozy. You will feel the relaxing atmosphere immediately. Thank you Carlos, see you next time (maybe in Berlin).
The apartment was beautiful, breezy and comfortable. The grounds and pool were gorgeous and Carlos is a gem. Unfortunately I was ill for much of my time at his place but he was very helpful.
Carlos enjoys making you discover the island as well as the surrondings. He makes you feel part of a family giving advice daily about choosing the best spots of the day or planning a trip in the north. The apartment is quite natty, Bali's style with all commodities you will need of nowadays. It has fantastic views of the see during the night and day. Nice location to go to surf spots by motorbike. It was an amazing unforgetable experience that we are sure we will repeat.
He's that host you want to meet when your new to a place you've never been before, he just knows everthing good to go if its about surfing, restaurants etc and the house is just absolutely amazing. definitely place to be when in bali.
We had a very pleasant stay at Carlos house, it was so much fun. The house is pretty nice located, with a very beautiful garden, the pool was great – it's a little oasis. Carlos was so friendly and helpful – his paintings are amazing, kind of magical. We loved it and would definitely stay again!
