The Space

An independent private apartment, part of a large villa in a two acre property, with amazing views, a constant cool breeze and a quiet, lush garden.

Amenities on the property include an eleven-meter long, “infinity” style, shared swimming pool, which overlooks the coast with two covered areas as well as plenty of lounge chairs tables and sunshades. There is also a covered parking area outside.

Located in the Bukit area of Bali very close to world class surfing spots like Padang Padang and Uluwatu. Also nearby are restaurants and spectacular beaches. The airport is 15 kilometers away, and just beyond that lays Seminyak and the greater Denpasar area.

The Surf house has a 25 square meter bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, a living room and porch that overlooks the swimming pool and ocean views, as well as free access to high speed wireless Internet. The bedroom has a large and comfortable double bed and is air-conditioned.

Your host Carlos is a long time resident in Bali and is supported by Ramona, a German girl, who has been living in Bali for a couple of years. They will be able to help you organizing car or motorbike rental, a guide for day trips around the Island, or advice if you want to venture independently, or any other needs that you may have.

Complementary Services

There are three staff members who take care of the housekeeping and maintain the property they work on a permanent basis six days a week, excluding major holidays. They are friendly and quite approachable.

Optional Services:
Locally there are plenty of services available; we have put together a bit of information about them in a guidebook that will be available to you upon your arrival.

To list a few:
Motorbike and car rental (essential for getting around)
Taxi service
Laundry service
Supermarkets and general stores

Guest Access

We have 4 spaces in the property...
Each one is very private with AC bedroom, kitchen and living, cable TV, Bathroom and porch. High speed WIFI…
Swimming pool and gardens are to share with other guests, however if we are fully booked we only host a maximum of 8 guests. In general is very quiet as most of the guests go to the beach or have a tour around the island…
Most of our guests are young couples in their 20's-30's…

Interaction with Guests

I am artist painter, as the property is large there is a private art studio (you are welcome to visit). If I am in Bali the time of your stay, I am available to help guests with information or to have a chat. Of course I love to know my guests but understand that they are staying here for other reasons than meeting me. The amount of interaction is determined by my guests.

Getting around

Automatic scooters are what nearly all our guest prefer, as they are very easy to ride and only cost 5$ a day.
Cars (we have a large parking area) cost 20$ a day.
Car with driver (recomended if you want to explore the island) cost 70$a day including chofer, petrol and car.
Taxis: Ask the staff and within 5 minutes one will arrive

Other Things to Note

Check-in and check-out time is 12am.
However if there are NO new guests arriving the day of your check-out, you can stay as long as you'd like.
If there are new guests arriving and you want to stay in the property till your departure, we provide a room to keep your luggage save and bathroom to use.

  • Our stay with Carlos was outstanding. The villa was delightful, clean and had plenty of space. It was quiet and peaceful. Carlos and his staff could not have been more obliging and helpful. For a base to see some of the most beautiful surf beaches it is perfect. Or like us if you want some relaxation it is the place to stay.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed 5 nights at 'Surf House' after reading reviews about the property.

Vincent the driver picked us up from our accommodation in Uluwatu and we met Carlos on arrival. He showed us around the property, had a motorbike ready for us, and told us if we needed anything to just ask. The accommodation itself was amazing. Beautiful house, so nice and cool with all of the windows open, the garden and pool were amazing. Lovely staff, super clean and comfortable. Carlos had drawn up a map for us with everything we needed to know and we also had drinking water provided and some lovely fruit.

The location is great, but only thing I would recommend is that if you can't ride or get on a motorbike (I have a back injury) it's a bit far to walk to Padang Padang. On the bike it's 2 minutes, but without it you have to walk up and down the hill which would take about 30 mins. One night I asked Carlos where we could go for dinner within walking distance, (I explained about my back) he got us in his car and showed us restaurants on the main road, dropped us at one, introduced us to the staff and asked them to drop us home after. I was gobsmacked. Honestly, Carlos was amazing, we saw him everyday, had a chat, he gave us advice on places to see, eat, and visit - we were both blown away by the friendliness and generosity of this man.

If you can get around on a motorbike, I would highly recommend to stay with Carlos. 11 out of 10!!

Thanks Carlos, see you next year :)

  • Carlos is an absolutely incredible host, and his rental apt is by far one of the most magical places I have ever stayed. This was my first international airbnb, and Carlos could not have been more of a perfect host: excellent communicator, extremely accommodating, very knowledgeable about local area and chock full of great local recommendations. And beyond all that, a super interesting person who was a joy to spend time with. And then of course the actual apt is amazing. Breathtaking view, great service by staff, super clean, and just magical. Could not recommend this apt and Carlos more. I wish there were 6 stars to offer!!

  • Oh what a magical place! I was in love with everything about the 'Surf House' but to be honest it wasn't the place that captured me on its own (although it does do that regardless) but rather the energy and love that came with the whole 'family' that reside there (Carlos and his staff). Carlos is one of the kindest souls I've ever met. It was like having my very own Dad in Bali. He made sure I was ok everyday. As it rained for most of my time in Uluwatu (which was like a cosy cleansing blissful hug) I spent alot of my time just chilling around his property. And as I opted not to rent a scooter (it would be more ideal with one but all is walking distance if you enjoy proper walking aka 20mins downhill to the beach but a big fat half hour UPHILL home or an easy 20,000 rupiah scooter taxi) he drove me to get groceries, meet a friend of his, showed me all the sights and where to eat, brought me rambutans straight from his tree each day, introduced me to the 'King of all fruits' the Durian and even came out on his scooter one night when he thought it was too dark for me to walk back. He wasn't sure where I had decided to have dinner so had been in and out of restaurants telling them they must scooter me back should I come in to eat. Too lovely for words! And he did find me just before I commenced the uphill climb, thank you universe!! I can't recommend Carlos' home and his beautiful property enough. I was very fortunate that I was the only one staying there at the time so had free run of the pool but I imagine it would be lovely to meet others when the other two bungalows are also full. He also booked a driver for me to head to the East Coast after my time down South which was super convenient (as well as having his driver at the airport when I arrived). Carlos it was such a pleasure to meet you and I hope you're still enjoying the green smoothies for breakfast! Yes, I introduced Carlos to green smoothies .... I still need to send you the recipe via email :). Much love x x x

  • One will find two very unique, worldly personalities. Carlos, a very established painter, and his son, Falkwyn, an equally established photographer who try their best to keep themselves low key despite their talents! Both have hosted us over a 9 day period in Uluwatu.

They have two to three helpers, of whom were patiently waiting at the airport for us despite delays at immigration. Carlos took the time and trouble to welcome us, and show us around the entire area upon our arrival, despite the rain! Everything was perfect - our motorcycles were waiting for us, so was our accommodation - clean and neatly pressed sheets/towels - very much hotel like in detail!

Throughout our stay, Carlos and Falkwyn were always concerned with our welfare and that everything was taken care of - from food when it was raining, to ponchos/raincoats.

Rest assured, anyone who comes by their way will be in good hands. Especially if you're a surfer AND a food junkie - recommendations on where to eat and surf were always spot on!

Thank you once again, Carlos/Falkwyn - we'll definitely be back!!!

  • What a relaxing peaceful place to stay while visiting Bali. Near to the world class surf breaks without feeling smothered amongst tourists. There is a beautiful view of the ocean to be enjoyed while sitting for your morning coffee or evening meal. A scooter is a must which during my stay was graciously arranged by Carlos, I believe the cost is $5. Carlos is a very engaging, friendly host with loads of advice for the area. This could easily be a long term stay, enjoy!!

  • This place is a taste of heaven! Imagine waking up in a king size bed a bird park to your left and blooming flowers and the view at the ocean to your right. Then taking a swim in the pool or heading down 5 min to one of the best beaches in Bali. I was working in my thesis here, Carlos is a great guy and was very helpful with ensuring great internet connection and whatever else I needed.
Definitely one of the nicest places I stayed at in my life.
