I normally book rooms when traveling alone, to give me the opportunity to meet new people. However, on this trip I couldn't give up the opportunity to stay in a place filled with art. The loft is much larger than I expected, it can easily hold four people comfortably. Check-in was very easy, the host was out of town, however, he left someone instructions to help me with check-in. She was very informative and easy-going. When I checked in, everything was clean, which I appreciated. I didn't use the wi-fi or bring a car, so I can't comment on those things. Checking out was a breeze, it included doing a walk-through with the host, which I appreciated.
If I every want to splurge on myself again, while in the area, I will certainly be renting out this space. Thanks for having me as a guest! And your artwork is amazing!
We had a fabulous stay at Dupree studios. It's defiantly a one of a kind place. James artwork brings the place to life;) James is a kind spirit, full of life and I would highly recommend staying at his studios. The apartment is clean and has pretty much everything you would need. It is now defiantly going to be my go to spot whenever I visit Philly.
Three friends and I were in town for the Made in America 2013 music festival and I was intrigued by what Dupree Studios offered. Staying in an artist's loft was exactly the type of unique experience we were looking for and James didn't disappoint. He was very punctual, accommodating, intriguing and fun to be around. The studio is large and has plenty of room to sleep and lounge. The art is amazing and really makes you feel like you're a part of something unique in such a historical city. The loft we rented was very clean, beautifully lit and smelled way better than my room ever does. After a long day under the hot Philly sun, we all just wanted to be inside in air conditioning and relax. We came back and felt right at home because of all the detail and hard work James put into our stay. The location of the studio is also very convenient. Thanks James!
We had a great time at the loft. It was a great experience and James was a great host. If you are in to art, looking for a great location in Philly close to the museums, you will not be disappointed.
James was a great host! His property is truly unique and very comfortable. Ill hopefully have the chance to return.
Mr. Dupree was very friendly, down to earth, and accomodating. His artwork is amazing, and it was a pleasure to stay there! I would recommend this place because of his art work and the close proximity to Drexel as well as the museum with the Rocky steps.
James is an amazing man. He is warm, engaging, and the art in his studio is spectacular. Dupree Studios is an extremely unique space. The space was clean, private, and James was sure to make sure that all my needs were met.
Wow...what a place!.... The location of this place is absolutely (email hidden) close to the museums...in the neighborhood of two Universities...and captures the essence & culture of Philadelphia very well...If you want to feel and live the city of Philadelphia...this is the place!
Great thing is that it is in a very calm neighborhood and perfect for someone who wants some peace while still being in the center of things.
That and the artistic environment of the building, James' works and James himself! They are a treat! It was great associating with Mr. Dupree, who is an icon in the city's art circles!
If you are into slick geometrical properties that resemble sterile 5 Star hotels or suites...this is not for you...this place is a lot more spacious, very clean and definitely has an edge to it...
I had a very satisfying stay of almost a month!... a few hiccups in terms water pressure but it was taken care by James promptly.... because of the design & location of the appartment within this wonderful property, Wi Fi access can be an issue.
All in all, I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a certain edge, character, art all around and yet a comfort in their stay while in Philadelphia hosted by a person of the stature of James Dupree, who is warm, friendly and a treat to hang out with!
Had an awesome stay, James was an excellent host, highly accommodating. The space with all his amazing artwork was a unique treat. Located right near Drexel University on the west side of Philly, plenty of shops and cafes within easy walking distance, and a ten minute taxi to City Hall/Downtown.
I had a great time staying at Dupree Studios! James was a good host. Very helpful and friendly!
The apartment is very private and there is a lot of space to spread out. Tons of space! There's a full kitchen and quite a large bathroom too. This is a true artist's loft.
The neighborhood seems a little rough at first glance, but everyone is very friendly and it's a 10/15 minute walk from the Rocky Steps so the location is excellent! I stayed for about a week and I'll be back.
