Guest access
Use our place as a base camp for exploring Yosemite National Park and Mariposa County, or simply settle in and retreat here. The whole property is yours to roam as you wish. You'll find everything you need to have the best time hanging out with family or friends, getting your work done, and just relaxing.

One of the highlights of our property is our river, which is accessed by a well-marked and groomed trail that's also perfect for taking a morning or evening stroll on. If you venture to the river and go a bit further downstream, you can find lots to explore.

Other things to note
VISITING THE PARK - UPDATED APRIL 2025
Reservations are not currently required to drive into Yosemite National Park. To check for updates, please visit the park website.

WILDLIFE
As in any mountainous setting close to Yosemite NP, wild animals could pass through the property, near to the cabin. Be prepared to see deer, rabbits, squirrels and birds. Occasionally, there may be coyotes. Rarely, snakes, bears and bobcats can pass through, but they tend to avoid humans.

THE RIVER
The Chowchilla river is a seasonal river. In normal rainfall years it usually only flows October to July, depending on annual snowpack and rainfall. We are currently in a multi-year drought, so the duration of the river flowing is shorter. If you’d like to experience the river flowing during your visit, plan to come before the end of May. Peak time to enjoy the river––when it’s warm enough to sunbathe and swim, is early April to mid-May.

WILDFIRE
Burn restrictions can in effect throughout the year. Outdoor fires will only be allowed from November-May typically, and only in a designated firepit.

Neighborhood highlights

--Cabin is located at the very end of a well-maintained dirt road (no 4x4 wheel drive is typically needed, even in winter.) You'll have 100% end-of-the-road privacy and peace and quiet to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. A hike out of the front door will take you to beautiful scenery–either to the 1/4 mile of river that runs through the property, or just around the neighborhood where you’ll see the mountain vistas leading to Yosemite.

--The cabin is in a very safe neighborhood. Please note that it is a rural neighborhood and there are no street lights. The house has outside lighting, but it will be dark at night, which is perfect for star gazing.

--10 minute drive to the groceries, shopping, museums, bars, restaurants and live music of charming downtown Mariposa, which has retained the small town charm of a bygone era. You won’t see strip malls or chain stores, and it remains one of a handful of California mountain towns without a stop light.

--30 minutes away to the larger stores and more hustle and bustle in the neighboring mountain town of Oakhurst.

--Conveniently located between two entrances into Yosemite National Park – the middle arch rock entrance and the south gate, which puts Yosemite valley and the Mariposa grove of giant sequoias each about an hour’s drive away. You can get to valley quickly via the Arch Rock entrance, or head to the giant sequoias, Glacier point and Badger pass skiing area, via the south entrance.

--Mariposa County isn't just the home of Yosemite. It's also home to amazing scenery, a wealth of outdoor attractions, and historic, gold rush towns. Copper Cabin is located off historic Highway 49, where charming mining towns dot the Gold Rush Trail route, surrounded by the panoramic vistas and bubbling streams of the western Sierra Nevada foothills. It’s 35 minutes from Lake McClure and Bass lake, and 20 minutes from the Briceburg Merced River recreation area where visitors can swim, raft, float and pan for gold in summer months.

--Mariposa is beautiful in every season. During the summer, the weather is dry and hot. Fall and spring are wonderfully mild, with daytime temps in the 70s and 80s, and nighttime temps falling into the 50s. Rain is a likely event. Every winter, we typically receive several inches of snow on several occasions, which melts away within a day or so. Note: If you do plan to visit in winter, (which we highly recommend as the park and the surrounding county is stunning at that time of year), check the weather forecast and make plans accordingly. If we're receiving 2" of snow at our elevation of 2400', Yosemite will be receiving a lot more, and chain restrictions will likely be in effect. ALWAYS carry chains with you in fall/winter.

Hi there! My husband Jon and I look forward to welcoming you to our properties and doing everything we can to make your stay comfortable and easy––through our physical spaces and the concierge-level of service we strive to provide. We know how precious vacation time is and we want to help you make the most of it. A bit about us. I grew up in England, and moved to California for art school in my early twenties, after spending time on the east coast. I’m now in marketing. Jon is a third-generation Californian and runs a design-build business. He also designs, builds and maintains our properties. We live full time in Mariposa, so we're never far away when our guests have issues, and we divide our time between the San Francisco bay area and Mariposa. When we’re not working, we enjoy traveling around the U.S. and internationally, and use AirBnB as much as we can. We also love being out in nature and get away to camp and backpack frequently. Yosemite is one of our favorite places in the world and we’re passionate about sharing our knowledge, appreciation and love for the park and surrounding areas. We try to put ourselves in the shoes of our guests and be thoughtful about our home environments and setting them up well. Some of our most cherished times have been spent at both properties–from gatherings with friends and family, to quiet, romantic weekends, with just the two of us. Please don’t hesitate to message me at any time if you have any questions. We look forward to having the pleasure of meeting you and helping you enjoy your time in Mariposa and Yosemite as much as we do!
