Jo and Karina would like to welcome you to The Crofter's Snug which we took over in December 2020. You'll find us right at the top of Scotland and only six miles west of John O'Groats with spectacular views across the Pentland Firth stretching from Dunnet Head to the Orkney Isles and Stroma.

One mile off the popular NC500 tourist route, our two lovely Snugs and a Shepherd's Hut offer complete peace and quiet in an idyllic location with some amazing sunrises, sunsets and starry skies.

The space
See Google and Facebook for the amazing reviews prior to us taking over in December 2020 - we can't wait to welcome our first guests and earn our own!

All of our snugs have a kitchen and dining area, en-suite shower room and all bedding, towels and crockery are supplied. Outside, each snug has a fire pit and BBQ. Logs can be bought on site so you can enjoy a cozy evening under the stars!

Snug One is fully equipped with double bed, double sofa bed, ensuite with chemical toilet, TV and cube gas heater. The kitchen has a microwave, single hot plate, George Foreman grill, kettle, toaster and fridge. An electric oven is also available by request.

Snug One is pet friendly and we charge an extra £20 per stay (ie. whether your stay is 2 days or 10) payable on arrival. This is to cover the extra cleaning required. Please bring your own dog bed and towels etc. Pets are not allowed on the bed or sofa. Please see The Crofter's Snug website for our canine code of conduct! And please advise that you are bringing a pet.

We supply toilet roll, kitchen roll, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, salt, tomato ketchup, tinfoil, soap and shower gel. All you need to bring are supplies.

Wifi is now available across the site but we've yet to have guests to try it out properly!

We're situated in a rural location, surrounded by farm land. Sit and watch the ships go by or depending on the time of year, have your binoculars at the ready and keep your eyes peeled for orcas, dolphins, seals, puffins and various sea birds. The fabulous winter skies are also a big draw for stargazers and astronomers. If you're lucky, you might even see the northern lights.

Queen Elizabeth Castle of Mey and gardens (20 min walk)
John O'Groats (10 min drive)
Duncansby Head (15 minute drive)
Dunnet Bay Beach - golden sand and vast! (10 minute drive)
Dunnet Bay Distillery - Rock Rose Gin (10 min drive)
RSPB Dunnet Head (20 minute drive - and the UK's most northerly point)
.... and more!

Take-aways, ATM and a convenience store can be found in Castletown. The delightful town of Thurso has many shops and restaurants and is less than a 25 minute drive away.

Being only 5 minutes from Gill's Bay and 25 minutes from Scrabster, we are an excellent stop-off en route to the Orkney Islands.

Hello everyone! Having quit the rat race three years ago to travel Europe, the world then threw the Covid+Brexit curve ball so we’re starting our next adventure by being the other side of reception as hosts rather than guests! We really look forward to meeting you all and hearing about your travels.
