The space
The gîte is a two bed-roomed 19th century cottage that sleeps 4 people. The bedrooms are next to each other, so you walk through the twin bedroom to get to the double bedroom, or use the French doors onto the garden (perfect for summer nights). The gîte has one large shower room, a large comfortable living room and a separate, well equipped kitchen. All rooms are south-east facing and have shuttered, double French doors leading onto a well maintained garden with lockable street access. The garden is very sunny, with shady areas for the high summer. The garden is organic, planted with fragrant plants and herbs, and various birds nest here each year and we have the delightful company of small, harmless lizards. It is awarded 3 Stars by the local Tourist Office. Gîte Wistéria’s position in town is very unique – a 5 minute walk to Mazamet’s amenities and yet 5 minutes walk away from wonderful walks in the Montagne Noire National Park and the Passerelle (a pedestrian sky-bridge across to the ancient hill village of Hautpoul - an absolute 'must visit' if you're in the area). We are probably the nearest self-contained rental cottage to the Passerelle in Mazamet.

Where you’ll be

Mazamet, Midi-Pyrénées, France

We love it here in Mazamet as it's a busy working town with a great atmosphere. There are lots of events happening here all the year round that you can find out about through the local tourist office. There are good restaurants and cafes and a brilliant twice weekly street market for all you gourmet needs. The wineries are worth visiting too as so much amazing wine is produced here that is not exported! Mazamet has great golf, fishing, skiing, cycling and swimming - so I think there really is something for everyone here!
Mazamet was a very prosperous town in the early 20th century, making its money from the leather and wool industry. As a result there are many fine properties, large warehouses and old factories that make amazing living spaces. The gîte makes an excellent base from which to view property, if you are considering a base in France, whether for studios or living accommodation. Although there are many estate agents here, a lot of vendors prefer to negotiate privately, which means if you are serious, you need to actually be here and walk the streets. It has paid off for a lot of people already and with the varied climate and close proximity to airports and other major cities, Mazamet is indeed a perfect location.

I live with my partner Martin Capey here in Mazamet where we both have art studios. Apart from our own practice, we love living here for the amazing walks in the mountains, swimming in the various lakes and, due to the clement weather - a bit of gardening! This region, as indeed all of France, is amazing for it's local food produce that we certainly like a lot!
We enjoy being hosts as we can then share some of this amazing place with our guests. We live adjacent to the gite, and although we are keen to see our guests settled in OK, our style is fairly low key during their stay! We just want people to have a great time!

During your stay

During this difficult time, we want to reassure all our guests of their safety during their stay at the gîte. With this in mind, we operate the following protocol and ask for our guests co-operation.

1) There is a 48 hour gap between all our guests' stays;
2) During this time we deep clean as usual, with additional disinfection of surfaces, the floors, door handles etc. ;
3) We continue as usual to hot-wash all the towels and sheets etc and iron the bed linen, tea towels and the shower curtain (which is changed for each reservation).

As well as this, we ask our guests to:
1) Wear masks when they arrive to collect or deposit the keys to the gite , and for any other contact they may need to have with us during their stay;
2) Remove all of their rubbish and recycling regularly and especially at the end of their visit;
3) At the end of their stay, put all their used bed linen, towels, table cloths, tea-towels and shower curtain into bags which will be provided.

We recommend that our guests bring their gel in hand and their masks as they are not provided at the lodge.

Thank you for your cooperation. Stay safe and enjoy your stay in Mazamet.

The gite is adjacent to our home, so if you have any queries during your stay, we're around most of the time, so just give us a call!
We like to welcome you when you arrive and if you like, we can have a chat over a drink or cup of tea to discuss all the exciting places you can visit on your holiday - subject of course to Covid 19 regulations.

While we wish to share our knowledge of this area, we also respect your privacy. So if you do have any questions during your stay, or if you encounter a problem in the gite, please do let us know as soon as possible.
There will be someone available to hand back keys to etc when you leave.
