We stayed at this apartment as an 8-person family with a wide age range (6 to 73) and different needs/expectations. We've had a great experience overall and would definitely stay here again next time in NYC. Here's what we liked:
1. Lots of space for a large group
2. Extremely well located for transportation - across the street from a couple of the main subway lines, several other a block away
3. Kitchen was nice - ample quantities of plates, glasses, silverware, pots/pans and toaster, coffeemaker
4. Washer and dryer was handy for a group of 8 for 8 days
5. Sheets and towels were nice and clean
6. Apartment was nicely cleaned before we arrived
7. For those who like to shop a couple department stores (e.g. Macy's, Nordstrom Rack) are one block away. There are also a couple of nice shops on Smith and Court Streets
8. For coffee lovers: two great coffee shops several blocks away on Smith St (Bien Cuit with wonderful french pastries) and Konditori
9. Close to hip neighborhoods in Williamsburg. Tried the restaurant Sindicato and loved it.
10. We were given the option of a later check-out with a fee which was nice to have.
The only issue was the "interesting characters" that we encountered early in the morning. Because of the smoke shop downstairs it seemed that there were several people who weren't "there there". Nothing happened and it didn't feel unsafe but we decided to be a bit more vigilant while getting in and out at odd hours. Otherwise, the businesses in the apartment are fine and no safety concerns.
Overall, great place. Much better than hotel rooms. Nicely located to get to Manhattan but also to explore Brooklyn.
Lots of space in this apartment especially for New York. Nice that it was across the street from the subway stop. Perfect for our group of 6! Elya was always available to answer questions. Beds were clean and comfy. Kitchen was nice and the washer and dryer was handy. Our 2 year old had lots of space to run around. We would stay with Elya again. This was a much better option than 3 hotel rooms. We were on the third floor but didn't mind taking the stairs. Plenty of dishes and pots and pans, we were able to have big dinners. Everyone had lots of privacy. We would definitely stay here again.
First, be careful with your booking. We booked a great looking apartment however were taken to one that was the same basic size but nowhere near as nice looking. Elya didn’t ask us if this was OK, nor did she say anything about it when greeting us at the apartment. I want to warn you about this ahead of time.
Here are the pros and cons of booking the property….
Decent amount of space
The basics are in place
The lock on the door worked well
Elya meets you on time
The bait and switch didn’t sit well with us.
Amenities are sparse…… no bar soap in bathroom, rough (ratty) towels, fuse not working in bathroom with no effort to fix it (therefore can’t use hairdryer or shave in the bathroom), thin/cheap pillows, cheap comforter, weak closet in some of the bedrooms. Almost nothing to brighten the walls anywhere….they’re mostly bare. Minimum effort was put forth on atmosphere and there isn’t much welcoming feel in the apartment.
Loud consistent noise from the street, even at night. Intermittent construction noise. The area was a hotbed for police skirmishes while we were here. Rough neighborhood, especially for $500 a night. After Elya called us liars we took photos and a small iPhone movie. If you want to see them just message me via Airbnb.
There are five – literally filthy – steep staircases that you need to climb to reach the apartment. These were not mentioned on the page or verbally. I have a photo of this too.
The cons outweigh the pros. The apartment is not worth $500/night. Our biggest issue was Elya.
We didn’t like the cons that are listed above and we called Elya on it almost immediately (albeit nicely). She was defensive and, rather than listening, began to explain why it was going to be that way and let us know that she wasn’t going to do anything about it. I’m not sure if Elya even knows what customer service is. She became angry during the call, wouldn’t listen, minimized our issues and refused to do anything about them, and we eventually realized that this is not someone we were going to reach and we got off the phone. She wrote letters to Airbnb trying to intimidate us, then tried to get us to agree to further stipulations in writing that were not a part of the initial contract.
Elya is a tough cookie in our experience. Belligerent, exceptionally defensive, and finds it hard to absorb anyone else’s input. We agreed we would never stay here again and hoped to never meet another person like her. She put a freeze on our security deposit with Airbnb to intimidate us, blew up my phone with belligerent texts while I was at dinner, and was just rude. How someone can give so little, bait and switch the apartment which violates Airbnb’s terms, and still be so rude is beyond me.
Controversy started when i found out that Brad and his team turned my apartment into massive video shoot location. Brad never told me that this is the main reason he is renting my property for. He disregarded all my House rules, he didnt respond to any of my requests. I politely asked him to stop but he refused and continued with this illegal commercial activity. On average 15-20 strangers were going in and out of my apartment, hanging out, moving furniture around, smoking and disturbing neighbors all day and night long ( at least till 2am-3am). I am sure if you are a homeowner you understand how I felt. It was a horrible experience that I wont wish upon any Host. Brad was extremely disrespectful, rude and dishonest guest I have ever hosted.
We had a great stay. It was the second time I booked an apartment with Elya. Always a good experience to stay at this place.
The apartment is very specious and clean. The location is great. The subway is across the street and within a couple minutes you are in Manhattan.
We were met by the friendly property Manager upon arrival as we were told we would be. The loft space was clean and humongous! We had plenty of room for the 7 of us and enjoyed the kitchen space and laundry amenities. There were 3 sets of keys which made it very convenient for separate agendas and the main floor entrance door being locked at all times offered great piece of mind. The subway entrance is right across the street and the neighborhood is full of great eateries and low key bars. We will definitely be back to stay at this beautiful property and highly recommend this place for anybody looking for comfort, convenience and style during their stay in NY! Thanks again ELYA!
Great apartment- massive space. Loved it, thanks.
Elya was very helpful from the moment we arrived. It is a fantastic loft in downtown Brooklyn and we were all very happy to stay there. I had my stay extended as we we here on business and Elya even managed to help me with that too. Great service, thanks.
The stylish loft was just that! It looked exactly like the pictures. By New York standards it was HUGE! The 4 bedrooms are large, all with windows to let the light in. Located at a noisy intersection but that's New York. My family & I had a wonderful Thanksgiving in this spacious, light filled loft. I would recommend it for large families or friends who want to vacation together.
