Bamboo Hale was a wonderful surprise. It's much nicer than the photos show and in an awesome location with a beautiful view of the Pacific and practically walking distance from Waipio Valley. We were only able to stay one night--will stay longer next time!
This lovely home is STUNNING. It is located in an awesome out of the way but accessible spot perfect for a trip around the Big Island. Bill was incredibly responsive and we appreciated the ease of check-in and the amenities of this location.
This is a great place near Waipio Valley. There is a small village with nice restaurants nearby. The house is wonderful and has everything you can ask for! Even laundry detergent :-) Go and enjoy the beauty of the island in this wonderful airbnb
Our group of four had an incredible time at Bill's place. He was incredibly helpful with directions and flexible with check-in and check-out procedures. Our time at the Bamboo Hale was seriously the highlight of our trip. It was a short walk from the entrance to Waipio Valley, one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The house is gorgeous and meticulously cared for, the beds are comfortable, and the windows are screened, allowing in just the right amount of breeze in at night. As it is on a side road, there isn't much traffic at all.
Sitting on the front porch overlooking the ocean (across a paddock or two), we enjoyed a bottle of wine and some cheese, and in the morning, a serene cup of coffee.
I would go back in a minute! This house would be great as a getaway for a couple or small family. I would suggest booking at least a few nights, walking down the hill in the morning and spending a full day at the beach. As a bonus, the nearby town is quiet and relaxed. The perfect Hawaii getaway!
Great overall stay. Our hike to Waimanu via Waipio got rained out; Bill was super accommodating and let us change our reservations last minute. The house is ideal, close by to Honokaa, pretty much next to Waipio. The neighborhood is a row of plantation houses. There were some issues with noise next door, but managed to sleep pretty comfortably. Overall, a solid stay.
I never met Bill in person, but communication with him was great. He provided clear instructions on departure and arrival and left his contact info if I needed anything. The Bamboo Hale had everything I needed, and it had great decor and comfortable sitting areas. The location is great for exploring Waipio Valley, in fact if you wanted to you could walk to the lookout from the Bamboo Hale, it's a bit over 1 mile away. It's also a short drive away from Honokaa town (try malasadas at Tex Drive In) and 30 minutes from Waimea, which has a lot more food/shopping options and a good brewery (Big Island Brewhaus). I'm glad the Bamboo Hale was available and would recommend a stay if you're looking to explore the Hamakua Coast and beyond
Bill returned all emails very promptly. We found his place in the dark, but without difficulty, directions were good. The house is very well equipped, you can easily make a meal in the kitchen if desired, everything needed is there. Nice washer and dryer, too. Good wifi, but little to no cell service (this was already known). Comfortable bedrooms and family room. If in the area, would stay here again.
