77 Apartments are family-run fully-furnished apartments located right in the heart of the tranquil seaside village of Marsascala. The apartments are a 5-minute walk away from the bus terminus, restaurants, bars, promenade, bank, church, groceries and all other amenities.
Known to locals as “Wied il-Għajn”, Marsascala is located in the southern part of the island and boasts plenty of amazing swimming spots with clear blue Mediterranean sea. All these spots are within
walking distance of the apartments including the rocky “Beachcomber beach” where you can swim right next to the cliffs and the rest of the rocky Marsascala coastline. Some villagers still produce salt from the age-old salt pans etched in the rocks. There is also a small sandy beach (St. Thomas Bay or “Ramla”) that is perfect for families with kids. The newly-opened Sant’Antin Family Adventure Park featuring picnic areas, play areas, outdoor gym equipment, rock-
climbing and abseiling areas, a dog park, an amphitheatre and a water park is also very popular with young visitors.
Marsascala is the perfect place for endless walks. Apart from the sea promenade that runs along the coastline, it is also very close to the historical cities (Vittoriosa, Senglea, Cospicua and Kalkara) and Marsaxlokk, Malta’s authentic fishing village where you can find Malta’s best seafood and the gorgeous secluded swimming spot of St. Peter's Pool, is only a 45-minute walk away. Getting to Valletta, Malta’s capital city (UNESCO world heritage), is easy with a direct 30-minute bus ride.
Diving Schools and English Language schools are also within walking distance of the apartment.
The airport is only 20 mins away from Marsascala. A discounted airport pickup can be arranged directly to the apartments upon request.
The bus service in Malta is cheap and covers most of the island. It is recommended to rent a car in order to explore the nicest parts of Malta. Driving in Malta (a former British colony) is on the left-hand side.
Renting a bicycle for a day or two is recommended to visit the areas surrounding Marsascala.
Smoking is strictly allowed only in the Yard
Communication with the host was good prior to the actual stay in the apartment. When we arrived quite late, there was no one at the site and by mistake we got to a different apartment which was on top floor. When we discovered that it wasn't what we booked at all and contacted the host by phone. The attitude of one of the hosts, Doriane, who picked up the phone up was unacceptable ( the listing is in fact by Albert Bonnici who we never saw or even spoke to). We understood that we were in the wrong apartment. This wouldn't have happened if someone was there to show us in. At no point did we ever see the hosts. The actual apartment was acceptable. However, a few points need to be mentioned: no soap, no shampoo, one toilet roll for the entire stay (we booked for 7 nights), and the towels were only fit to clean the floor; the shower was not very clean and hot water is only for one person taking a shower. The bed had only one thin cover so it was pretty cold (there was a duvet in the wardrobe but its cover hasn't been changed for a while). The apartment is on a busy road, so you will hear some noise however there was little traffic noise in the bedroom. There is no outside window as the apartment is partially a converted garage. There is no allocated parking for this flat, only street parking. The location is fine as it is in a quiet village with a nice waterfront and lots of cafes, restaurants.
Marina, I would like to point out a few things.
(a) We have never said we are going to be there for the checkin, that is why we gave you clear instructions how to enter, and, exactly as you said, you made a mistake because you did not follow the very simple instructions we sent you. We handle over 400 guests per year, and you have been the first one to manage to go into another apartment. So I do not think that is out fault at all.
(b) You are also mistaken about Airbnb - Airbnb caters for self-catering apartments too - as such, we rented you a private self-catering apartment, as described, nothing more, nothing less
(c) There is no rule that says we have to put soap, or shampoo in our apartments. And in a self catering apartment, yes, you put one roll of toilet paper, the guests are responsible for getting their own things, like all SELF-CATERING apartments. This is NOT a Hotel. So please you need to be clear what you are renting for next time, because you will find the same problem in a self-catering apartments you are going to rent in the future.
(d) As regards cleaning, again, you are the first guest who is mentioning this, I am sure you will keep going around to find excuses to try and get a refund back, because you asked 100 times to get a refund back because according to you, we did not give you the same apartment you saw in the pictures - until you realised you where wrong and entered into the wrong one !
(e) Who ever said there is allocated parking ? There is free parking on the street, like mentioned, there is no place in entire Malta where there is allocated parking. You should be grateful that there is FREE parking on the street, something in-existent in all Europe.
I am sorry your experience was not the Hotel Experience you where expecting, and unfortunately, we are not willing to host unreasonable people like you, we will stick to our trusted guests who keep returning to our apartments time and time again, as you can see from the reviews.
Our stay in Marsascala was amazing! I believe our apartment was changed to a similar apartment on the same block due to construction. But it was still just as nice and clean! Great informational book provided in the apartment about the area and island. Really easy check in, which was great since we arrived in the evening! The small village was very family oriented and warm to us. Small nightlife with restaurants and happy people! Thank you for everything Albert and Dorianne!
Our stay in Marsaskala was perfect!
The apartment had everything we needed and it was really comfortable.
It is well located, 5 minutes away to the town center and just in front of the bus stop.
Marsaskala is a nice and quite place to stay, we had a great time there.
We recommzend taking a pizza in the take away and eat it near the harbour!
The apartment was absolutely perfect, we were close by to everything, it provided everything we needed and more! It really felt like home for day one, which enhanced our experience in malta ever more! Thank you!
We stayed in this apartment in late October. The apartment have us everything we needed from our holiday and offered us plenty of space. The town is also very lovely, very picturesque and lots of restaurants to choose from too. We didn't get to meet our hosts but everything was carefully planned and laid out to us and when we contacted them during our stay to enquire about parking they were very prompt in their response. All in all a very good value apartment and would stay there again.
On arrival in Malta, we stayed here for three nights. The apartment is in a good location a couple of minutes from the fishing boats and restaurants in Marsascala. We really liked the area and would stay at the apartment again. The apartment was clean and bright. Having visited a number of other coastal towns, we liked Marsascala best!
Communicating with the hosts, Albert and Dorianne, was incredibly easy. They replied to my reservation request almost immediately and sent very clear emails about all aspects of our stay. The information booklet in the apartment was also very useful - all hosts should have this!
Having wifi was great but apart from a promotions channel on the TV, all other TV channels were unavailable.
The bus from Valetta can drop you very close to the apartment - about fifteen houses past the apartment on the other side of the road. It would be really helpful if the hosts can give you the name of this bus stop if you are coming by bus so that you don't get off too early or late with your luggage.
To get the bus back to Valetta and most other places away from the south of Malta (we visited Mdina), it is best to walk along the harbour area to the main bus stop behind the playground because the one opposite the church has fewer and less frequent buses and the bus we waited for didn't turn up at all. This was the only time we had a problem with buses during our time in Malta and Gozo. It's very easy and cheap to get around - just have a book with you in case you have to wait!
Thank you, Albert and Dorianne, for a lovely time in Marsascala.
