Interaction with Guests
I enjoy hearing where they come from, but completely respect their right not to chat if this is what they want.
Just going out of my front door gives me pleasure as everything in this little town is harmonious and pleasing to the eye.
Good walking and cycling tracks through the lovely countryside, or along the beaches.
It is necessary to take the ferry (1 hour) either from Svendborg or Fynshav.
Buses are free and reasonably frequent.
Other Things to Note
Everybody who has been to Ærø has loved it and wanted to stay longer.
As they would in their own homes.
Collette's cottage is a delightful base from which to explore both the gorgeous village of Aeroskobing as well as Aero island. The cottage is the former wash house in the courtyard behind the main house where Collette lives, and the house is just off the main square (but the cottage is still very quiet as it’s in the interior courtyard). If you’re not coming by car, it’s a 10-15 min walk (over cobblestones) or slightly longer walk (paved road) from the ferry to the cottage. The cottage is very pleasant, clean, well-equipped and comfortable, and you have use of the table in the lovely garden at the back to dine al fresco (the pictures don’t do justice to the cottage). If you have questions, Collette is very helpful (and we were lucky that she had the time to chat with us for a bit - she is very charming).
Tips: The bike rental shop is just outside the back door - with easy access to delightful bike routes around the island. Don't miss the entertaining and informative "Night Watchman" walking tour with a local, which begins right next door (English tours on Wed and Sat as I recall). On practical matters: You are right next door to the town library and can log on to their wifi as well from inside the cottage - we found that signal to be more reliable than the cottage's wifi. The Netto supermarket is next to the ferry and the smoked butter fish at Rogeri (also near the ferry and tourist info) is a treat.
Overall, Aeroskobing is a charming village that deserves its Europe Nostra prize (2002) for preservation of European cultural heritage, and staying at Colette’s cottage is an ideal way to see it.
Very charming place, situated in a idyllic courtyard, with cobbled stones and roses, the pictures doesn't do it justice. The host, Collette, was very friendly and we instantly felt at home, she was also helpful giving tips about what to see around the island. The house has all the necessities you could hope for, including a dishwasher, yeah.
Such a wonderful place to stay in Ærøskøbing! My family and I were very happy with Collette's adorable house.
Great house in a prime location off a historic square. House was exactly like the pictures and communicating with Colette and her son was easy and quick. A wonderful place to stay in Æro!
Cosy, clean and comfortable cottage in the beautiful old centre of aeroskobling. Incredibly beautiful little town. Highly recommend it!
Collette was a gracious host and eager to help make our stay on Aero Island a wonderful experience. The cottage was as described and very comfortable for our needs.
Delightfull stay @ Collette's humble, comfortable and centrally located abode in Ærøskobing :) Collette was very accomodating and agreeable. A beautifull and well maintained Garden to accent our stay was most cherished. I had good & thourough communication prior to my arrival which set a smooth and relaxing stay. Looking forward to visiting Ærø and Collette's place in the near future :)
