Our family home is a listed building over 300 years old, situated in a quiet country village 30mins from Dublin Airport.
Perfect for exploring both The East and North as only 1 hour from Belfast.
Nearby attractions are Newgrange Monument, Slane Castle, Mellifont Abbey and wonderful beaches and coastline.
The fantastic Giants Causeway is approx 90 mins drive.
As the house is so old, and we are eternally renovating parts of it, it is quirky and full of character - A wonderfully different experience which our guests seem to love.
The Double room is in the side wing of the house and has a separate entrance and bathroom. The rest of the house is also available for you to use as freely as you feel and we have a lovely freestanding bath in our second bathroom should you feel like some relaxing time.
We provide a good breakfast each morning and you just need to let me know what your preference is...... The Full Irish, Lighter eggs and Bacon, fresh fruit and breads, yougurts etc etc
Our children love meeting people from all over the world and may even treat you to an impromptu violin lesson!
The village of Collon is beside Slane and Drogheda which have a nice selection of restaurants and bars. We have pubs here in the village so perfect to have a pint or two and walk home without worrying about driving.
We have bikes here for both adults and children that you can borrow if you are feeling brave, as the hills around here are a challenge.
There is an open fire in the bedroom which we light in the Winter Months and there are extra blankets in room for our guests who feel a bit chilly ( although Ireland does officially have a summer, sometimes you wouldn't think it :) )
The wiifi does not always work in the guest room but is freely available in the main areas of the house.
Feel free to message me any questions and I will get back to you as quickly as possible.....Hope to meet you soon xxxxx
What a great place!!!!! Margaret and her family are brilliant hosts. The room is beautiful my wife and I spent the evening playing board games in front of the fire. The only problem is trying to work out when we
A fabulous family with a beautiful house in a the most charming village.
Oour stay with margaret and family was fantastic, the room with fireplace charm us, a charming house.
We recommend it to everyone.
The only way I could really describe our experience here would be: Above and Beyond! Truly, Margaret and her husband were so helpful! Not only did they let us use their home phone and personal computer, they did our laundry for us! Margaret recommended a fantastic restaurant and made the reservation for us. Her husband got up at 5 AM to prepare out breakfast as we had to make an early ferry ride. 5 AM people! Their home was great! Full of character and old world charm. Our room was beautiful : ) We enjoyed falling asleep while watching the fire. We could not recommend Margaret's home highly enough! Wonderful home and even more wonderful hosts!
I felt so at home I went back a second time!
Mags and Declan were so welcoming! I felt like part of the family instantly. I cannot recommend them enough as hosts and as people. They are clearly wonderful parents, everyone in the house is well read, interesting, completely unique from each other and above all friendly. Everyone was always up for a chat. The room is spacious, well decorated and adorned with more books than any book lover could hope to conquer in a short stay. If you love warm people, books and a comfortable room, this place is for you. If you do not like dogs or children, you should look elsewhere.
We had such a great stay with Margaret and her family. The Bleach House is a beautiful historic home that the family has obviously spent a lot of loving time fixing up and making cozy. After some nice tea upon arrival, we got to have a tour and see all the amazing period details of this great home! The room we stayed in is even more beautiful in person then the photos, and decorated amazingly well. On Margarets recommendation we had a great dinner at Fuchsia House, which we would have never found on our own. Very tasty! The whole family is really sweet, and we stayed up until the wee hours talking with Declan and the kids. Such great Irish hospitality! Wish we could have stayed longer.
Margaret even cooked us a delicious home made Irish breakfast in the morning, and sent us off with some amazing 'off-the-beaten-path" sites to see. Would highly recommend staying here!
It was a pleasure to stay with Margaret and her lovely family. We were made very welcome from the outset. The house is amazing and it was handy having our own entrance as we didn't disturb the family or the dogs late at night. I would highly recommend staying there.
The room was very comfortable and quiet.
Margaret and Declan were very flexible with the times for breakfast which was great if you fancied a lie in.
Normally we would stay with family in that area but if needed to I would not hesitate to stay with Margaret again. Great experience.
If you are looking to be immersed in Irish culture then look no more. We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed it very much. The bed was extremely comfortable. More than I could possibly imagine. The comforter is toasty warm. Blankets and towels are plentiful. Margaret and the family went above and beyond time and time again. Breakfast fit our daily needs to say the least. She offered a full Irish breakfast but we just can't eat that much food. She gives great suggestions for fine dinning as well as take away meals. The free wifi works well in the drawing room and kitchen. Be sure to ask to see the pictures of completed renovations on the historic home. I wish them luck as they continue their project.
Margaret gave us brilliant ideas for activities. We enjoyed her ideas far above our own. I recommend Carlingford Village. That was our favorite activity. When we visited Dublin, we took the bus, even though we had already hired a car. The bus stop is within 5 minutes of walking and goes straight to Dublin city center. It does take an hour which was relaxing for us. Take it to the last stop, Abbey Street. All of the attractions we wanted to see are within walking distance. Upon the return ride we waited at the Wynn hotel and enjoyed one more drink and a chat with the locals.
What we will always remember with great affection is how warm and friendly the family is. It is true, you suddenly become part of the family. Chats with Margaret, the children plus pets for the dogs became a way for us quite quickly. Evenings in the drawing room are also something we will miss for a long time. Spending time with the family is why we wish to return someday.
We are so lucky to not have stayed here on our first night in Ireland as we may not have checked out the rest of the country. This place is "grand" and Maggie n Declan and the kids couldn't be more welcoming. We loved the old house and its history, the room is very comfortable and the bathroom was all ours. Dexter, Lola and Louis were great playmates and we really loved our doggie cuddles. Couldn't fault this place, stay here and experience true Irish hospitality!!!
