Our family home is a listed building over 300 years old, situated in a quiet country village 30mins from Dublin Airport.
Perfect for exploring both The East and North as only 1 hour from Belfast.
Nearby attractions are Newgrange Monument, Slane Castle, Mellifont Abbey and wonderful beaches and coastline.
The fantastic Giants Causeway is approx 90 mins drive.
As the house is so old, and we are eternally renovating parts of it, it is quirky and full of character - A wonderfully different experience which our guests seem to love.
The Double room is in the side wing of the house and has a separate entrance and bathroom. The rest of the house is also available for you to use as freely as you feel and we have a lovely freestanding bath in our second bathroom should you feel like some relaxing time.
We provide a good breakfast each morning and you just need to let me know what your preference is...... The Full Irish, Lighter eggs and Bacon, fresh fruit and breads, yougurts etc etc
Our children love meeting people from all over the world and may even treat you to an impromptu violin lesson!
The village of Collon is beside Slane and Drogheda which have a nice selection of restaurants and bars. We have pubs here in the village so perfect to have a pint or two and walk home without worrying about driving.
We have bikes here for both adults and children that you can borrow if you are feeling brave, as the hills around here are a challenge.
There is an open fire in the bedroom which we light in the Winter Months and there are extra blankets in room for our guests who feel a bit chilly ( although Ireland does officially have a summer, sometimes you wouldn't think it :) )
The wiifi does not always work in the guest room but is freely available in the main areas of the house.
Feel free to message me any questions and I will get back to you as quickly as possible.....Hope to meet you soon xxxxx
Guests have access to our kitchen, drawing room, and main bathroom as well as their room and en-suite
Interaction with Guests
We interact as much as little as the guest wishes. Some guest prefer to be left to their own devices, others join in with the family. A separate entrance means the guests can decide.
It is a quaint village with four pubs, two restaraunts, a church, small supermarket, butchers etc. We have a Gaelic Football/Hurling pitch at the end of our lane way so guests can even watch a match if the timing is right. There is a park within walking distance, that is home to our local Monks.
Public transport to our village is very limited. Reliable day coaches to Dublin should you want to see the city during your stay, without taking the car.
Other Things to Note
This is a very old house and therefor is not like a hotel. Each room is different and has its own beauty as well as flaws. Doorways are low in certain rooms, while ceilings are very high; there are steps into some rooms; fires are lit in the wintertime but not in the summer, hot water is in plenty and breakfasts are hearty. Should you have any issues, please let us know, as we are only happy to help, if we can.
No smoking in house, but outside is fine. I am a former smoker so it doesn't bother me at all.
If you would prefer to eat privately in your own room that is fine but we really enjoy treating you like one of the family and getting involved in a bit of banter :))
This is a very unique Airbnb. We will certainly be recommending an onward trip to our Airbnb guests in Dublin! Margaret and her family made us very welcome and we had a very romantic time on Valentine's night cozying up in front of the open fire in our room, and a yummy chatty breakfast plus a tour of this fascinating history house. It's also 10 minutes from the Dublin-Belfast motorway which puts it in a great location for road trippers too, and the local Mellifont Monastery ruins are very romantic too.
It was such a lovely stay! Our car had broken down and we arrived a bit late, but we were warmly welcomed and had such a great evening there. Only spent one night but could have easily stayed longer they made us feel so welcome.
What a lovely room, house, and family. It's such a shame that we only stayed there one night, and that we had to leave so early. This is definitely a place where we would have liked to stayed longer, so as to enjoy the house and get to know the host family more.
But from the little time we were there, we found Margaret and Declan to be very warm and considerate hosts. We arrived in the evening, and Margaret didn't mind us bringing back take-away food.
The bedroom is very comfortable and charming, with the fireplace deserving a special mention.
Breakfast was very tasty, and all cooked by Declan, who must have got up early - on a Saturday - to have it ready by 8am. We had a good friendly chat while we ate breakfast in the kitchen.
This place is ideal for visiting Bru Na Boinee and the other ancient sites in the area. If we ever come back again to visit it, Margaret's place will be first on our list.
Such a welcoming and friendly family, who did everything to make our stay a wonderful experience!
The room was so beautiful and we had a great nights sleep in a very comfortable bed.
I'd definitely recommend the yummy scrambled eggs and great coffee!
Thank you! We will definitely be back again :)
Stayed for one night in October 2014 and wish we could have stayed longer. It really is a great house with great character.
Margaret had lit the fire in the bedroom before our arrival which really made us feel welcome.
The room is exactly as pictured, and the welcome from our hosts (and the dogs) was wonderful!
We were so pleased to find such a wonderful place at the end of our long flight. Margaret 's son and four legged family welcomed us and we were truly pleased with everything about our stay.
Thank you so much Margaret! We had a lovely stay in Collon with you! The room is beautiful and full of charm! Lovely location and a great experience. The family are super nice and welcoming! Highly recommend it!
