The Spoon Rest is a super cute, renovated apartment located directly above The Surfin' Spoon. With epic ocean views from the porch (or from every window inside), you're gonna be stoked to just hang and relax while people-watching & listening to the waves break. When you're ready to surf or get your bronze on, the beach is just across the street! Located in the heart of Nags Head, you'll love being close to so many great restaurants and fun places.
The space
We LOVE The Spoon Rest (so much that we want to live there, but we can't, darnit). You'll be so stoked when you walk through the door into this newly remodeled apartment! It's SUPER cozy; a perfect little space to sneak away with someone you love, or just for a fun getaway with some friends. You can check the waves from the balcony, then grab your board or beach bag and head across the street to the beach!
You'll find a king size bed, spacious closet, ceiling fan, a smart TV, and ocean views in your bedroom. The den is quite spacious with plenty of seating, a smart TV, a ceiling fan, views of the ocean, and modern decor. The kitchen is stocked with a new dishwasher, stove/oven, fridge, coffee maker, Keurig, and all that you need to cook a tasty meal. The bathroom isn't huge, but offers a bathtub/shower and a stacked washer and dryer so you can keep the beach towels nice and fluffy for when you tan in the sand!
We leave the entryway closet supplied with towels, cleaning supplies, blankets, spare sheets, games, and puzzles. You'll also find a hose and outdoor shower just outside the downstairs door to rinse off after a surf sesh or walk on the beach. Beach chairs are kept here for you to use, feel free to grab those for your beach day!
*Sadly, the Spoon Rest is not a good fit for children and infants due to safety concerns. We also regret that the apartment is not wheelchair accessible. Thank you so much for understanding!
Here are a few reasons why, and things everyone should know:
-The only way into the apartment is up a long flight of stairs.
-The incredible porch is located directly above the entry way to the Surfin' Spoon and LOTS of people hang out down there. It only took our kids a few minutes to get the urge to drop things off the porch to down below (like tiny parachuting army men... water bottles - ouch! boys!!)
-The roof is also somewhat accessible (again, something our boys quickly noticed). Let's hope no adults pull any rooftop stunts!
-It's not super loud in the apartment, however, there are doors that open & close regularly from our two kitchens downstairs, and sometimes you can hear the music or people having a good time down below. People love to party in the Spoon... this will be the most noticeable between 10:00pm-11pm when our staff is winding down and cleaning up. It's over quick and if you are watching a movie or catching up with friends, you might not even notice it.
*If you are a light sleeper and go to bed early, this may be bothersome but we do, however, provide 2 sound machines.
*You will be provided with a private parking space directly behind the building (though there are signs for customers not to park there, occasionally people do not follow the rules. Just let us know and we'll take care of it)
*There are 2 entry ways - both are up a flight of stairs to your own private entrance.
Guest access
You will have your own personal parking space at your outside entry. We also provide you with two bikes (beach cruisers with baskets) so you don't even need to drive your car while you're here! There is a really nice sidewalk/path that follows the "Beach Road" throughout the whole town of Nags Head... therefore, you can bike to the beach, the pier, the restaurants, coffee shops, the convenience store, surf shops, etc. And, it's so much fun!

*Just a reminder that the Spoon Rest is sadly not pet-friendly and not a good fit for children and infants due to safety concerns. Thank you for understanding!

Neighborhood highlights
The vibes in the neighborhood around The Spoon Rest are truly immaculate! There is nothing quite like watching the sun rise over the ocean while you drink your coffee on the porch ...You can also watch the sun set behind the Spoon if you set your chair up in the right place!! There are so many great things to do in our neck of the woods... er beach. Nags Head Pier offers fishing and drinks over the ocean. Tortugas Lie and Lucky 12 Tavern have incredible food and a fun atmosphere. Then, there's Jockey's Ridge just down the road; it's so much fun to go fly a kite and watch the sun set (we are locals, and we still love doing this). Other awesome places to see that require a little driving would be Manteo (the Lost Colony outdoor play is phenomenal) and the downtown area is absolutely presh with lots of great food options. Or... travel north a bit and take a tour of the wild horses on the beach in Carova (a personal fave of our family). Bodie Island and Cape Hatteras Lighthouse NEVER disappoint; they really are breathtaking, and so is the drive to get to them!! The bike path that is right across the street is pretty amazing; it goes on forever... there are so many things to do and see. We are certain you won't be bored here! Don't worry, we will have a notebook full of ideas, brochures and menus for you.
