Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Mökki House is a handcrafted timber frame getaway in the style of a traditional Finnish cabin. Nestled in a light-filled aspen grove on the edge of a quiet meadow on 25 acres of rolling private land, with a hot tub tucked in the woods behind the cabin. 40 mins from Grand Targhee Ski Resort, ~90 mins to Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks. Designed with coziness and tranquility in mind – wood stove, warm lighting, vintage furnishings, and a spacious deck to enjoy the views and wildlife.

The space
Mökki House is a cozy experience awash with traditional Nordic aesthetics – a mortise and tenon timber frame of hand joinery, black torched "shou sugi ban" siding, a loft, rugs, wood floors, and thoughtfully appointed vintage touches.

Make this the base camp for your Teton Valley or Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Park adventures or retreat into quiet mountain solitude. A 5-person jacuzzi hot tub is tucked into the woods behind the cabin, surrounded by twinkling lights for soaks under the stars. Do some morning yoga on the deck, watch grazing deer with your morning tea, read a book to the song of a cheerful chickadee.

The kitchenette includes a microwave, toaster, French press, mini-fridge/freezer, dual range electric cook top, and a full range of all standard dishes, silverware, and cooking implements. We can provide a cooler by request for anyone who needs it, and if you need any other specific kitchen appliances or tools, feel free to ask and we can likely provide it from our home.

The small bedroom provides a quiet retreat for children or an adult wanting to work or retire early. There is also a Murphy desk in the bedroom perfect for laptop or desk work. The open loft and futon couch in the studio portion provide sleeping options for a small family. Electric heaters are in place if you prefer not to manage a wood-fired stove.

NOTE: THE FUTON COUCH IN THE COMMON ROOM CAN BE CONVERTED TO A THIRD BED (twin) BY ADVANCED REQUEST. IF YOU ARE A PARTY OF 3 OR 4 AND WANT IT USED AS A BED PLEASE NOTIFY US WHEN YOU BOOK.

High speed Starlink Internet should meet all your browsing and streaming needs.

Our home is just up the hill from Mökki House, visible from the deck. We are generally around with our two young kids, but other than us, your closest neighbors are a family of deer and the occasional rogue fox.

Winter amenities: Mökki house is built on the edge of a meadow with a splendid private sledding hill. Sleds available on request. You may see our children plummeting down the hill from time to time. We also provide two pairs of snow shoes for you to explore our 25 acres of winter wonderland (there are no trails, so pay attention to where you’re going!) or to take up to the national forest where you can snowshoe for miles up the forest road (unplowed in winter, but packed down by snowmobiles.) You are also welcome to bring cross-country skis and ski from your front door. Let us know if you have questions about rentals or what kind of skis are ideal for the terrain.

BE SURE TO REVIEW ARRIVAL INSTRUCTIONS. GPS NAVIGATION CAN BE INACCURATE.

Guest access
Access to the cottage is through Beaver Blvd and Hiatt Trail which are privately maintained roads. Please respect the neighborhood by adhering to the 15mph speed limit on those roads.

Parking to accommodate 1-2 vehicles is next to the cottage. Not suitable for large trailers. In winter, parking is up the hill in front of our garage.

Other things to note
Mökki House is nestled in a wild area, home to a wide array of creatures. This means everything from deer and fox to skunks and the occasional bear. It's important to store all trash and food indoors or in cars and to be aware and prepared for possible wildlife encounters (bear spray is provided for your wanderings.)

As you might expect, natural surroundings come with a variety of not-always-predictable conditions like mud and insects. We don't generally find these to be problematic, but you should be prepared to embrace a back-to-nature attitude to fully enjoy your stay.

Your car should also be prepared to embrace nature! We live on dirt roads and your car WILL get dusty in the warmer months. In the snow months it is absolutely necessary to have an AWD or 4WD vehicle and drive cautiously.

The hot tub is intended as a tranquil retreat and we ask that you avoid music or undue noise while enjoying your soak. We appreciate your help in keeping the tub and surrounding area pristine.

Please note that hot tubs can be fickle and while we will do everything we can to ensure that everything is working properly, we cannot guarantee against something unforeseen. We will keep you informed of any possible issues should they occur.

THE FUTON COUCH IN THE COMMON ROOM CAN BE CONVERTED TO A THIRD BED (TWIN) BY ADVANCED REQUEST. IF YOU ARE A PARTY OF 3 OR 4 AND WANT IT USED AS A BED PLEASE NOTIFY US WHEN YOU BOOK.

The water in the cottage is untreated and straight from our well. It is excellent and perfectly drinkable from the tap.

Neighborhood highlights

Mökki House is located in the foothills of the Teton Range about 15-minutes from Tetonia and Felt, and 20 minutes to the Driggs where you'll find the most amenities – several restaurants, a very well-stocked grocery store, and outdoor gear rental and services. We are a quiet wilderness neighborhood community of forested homes, and outdoor lovers within walking distance of National Forest access and Badger Creek. Some of the most heart-stopping views of the Teton peaks in the valley can be seen from the area when weather permits. Blue ribbon fly fishing abounds within 20-60 minutes – Teton River, Bitch Creek, Henry's Fork and Fall River to name a few.
