Come stay in an airy and light bedroom in a comfortable and funky home. The house was my grandparent's and it's in a great neighborhood with easy street parking and quick access to the beaches, Venice and Santa Monica - and a great central location to visit Los Angeles - the Venice Boardwalk, the Hollywood sign, the Getty Museum, Malibu, and Beverly Hills as well as lesser know ones like The Museum of Jurassic Technology.
Wireless internet, shared kitchen and bath, washer and dryer available, easy access to transportation (such as we have here in LA), walking distance to restaurants, cafes and grocery stores. Also a short, non-freeway drives to UCLA, Santa Monica City College and Loyola Marymount University.
This is a house, so there is also outdoor areas to take advantage of the wonderful Southern California weather - the one in the back yard is perfect to watch the sunset! It's easy to get up the coast to Santa Monica and Malibu, as well as into Hollywood and Beverly Hills!
The neighborhood itself is quiet and calm, very residential, all single family homes and out of the hubbub. Parking is super easy, ample with no restrictions - no chance of getting a parking ticket! I do have two bikes available for guest with a deposit. The major bus routes to Santa Monica and any of the downtown attractions are a 10 minute walk from the house.
The house and bedroom catch the breezes coming off the ocean, so no need for air conditioning - just open a window and the temperature is lovely.
I lived for a long time overseas, and I love to host intrepid travelers from everywhere and share stories! Tell me what you want from your LA vacation and I can help you sort it out!
check in time does need to be coordinated - I do everything I can to get you settled in, but I generally need at least 48 hours lead time to be sure that I can accommodate!
Monthly rates require a 30 day booking
Yes, I hope you love the room, no I don't give discounts just because you do!
Guests have access to most of the house including the kitchen, dining room living area and outdoor areas.
I love chatting with my guests and sharing information - about perspectives, where to eat, things to do or house hunting if you're in the process of moving here. I've also had guests that were busy and I hardly saw - it's your call!

My boyfriend and I had such a great time at Shelby's. She's a wonderful host and excellent company. She is also fluent in French, if you wanted to speak French with her! She is very accommodating, and the bed was super comfortable. We plan to stay again soon!
I stayed at Shelby's house for a month and could not have hoped for a better experience! Shelby is an amazing host ... easy going about sharing her space, fun to talk to and a new friend! I would definitely stay again, and recommend Shelby's room to anyone who needs a place to stay in the area!
Thank you for the stay & the snacks!
A lovely bungalow in a great location with a thoughtful host. I stayed here for 5 days as I transitioned into a new apartment that was being renovated. Shelby is a great resource and super helpful with all my needs. I enjoyed making a new friend in LA!
We had a great stay at Shelby's place. The room was charming, clean and very quiet. There is nowhere better to rest after a long day.
Shelby was very a very nice and welcoming host. Thank you!
I definitely recommend this place.
Shelby provides a laid back home in a great area close to the beach but not too far away from seights like Hollywood.
We really enjoyed our stay and definitely recommend her place!
We just been a couple of nights...but we left with the sensation, that is great place to return...and to stay more time. Shelby is great host, and let you feel at "home"...
Nice stay at shelby's. We were out in town most of the time and Shelby was pretty busy as well, so we didnt talk too much. Room was as descrebided and clean and the house well furnished.
I'm going to talk about the PRO's and CON's of staying at Shelby's place. Firstly, the PRO's. Shelby is a friendly, warm and welcoming host. I enjoyed talking with her. Her place is quirky and interesting. She explained how to get to places I needed to go.
Now the CON'S. When I arrived to check in at the agreed upon time, Shelby was nowhere to be seen. I called her phone several times, but there was no answer. I rang the doorbell but she wasn't home. Eventually, after waiting outside for 20 minutes Shelby's called me back, apologised and told me where the key was located. I let myself in and was surprised to discover that the front door was actually unlocked and so was the side door to the house. Literally anyone could enter the house. Doesn't really give you a sense of security. Shelby later explained that you could lock both doors, but she had forgotten to. The side door remained unlocked for my entire stay.
Shelby's place is NOT close to the beach. It would easily be a 40 minute walk to the beach. A 15 minutes bike ride. Or a 5 minute drive. I did use her bike once or twice. But mostly took taxi's down to Venice Beach.
The room has a big wardrobe / cupboard for you to store your things which was great. It would have been nice to have a desk.
Overall, I enjoyed staying at Shelby's. Her place is really affordable and the room was comfortable (although the bed is a little too soft for my liking).
Shelby is a cool L.A. local who's place is in a great location for spending your day around the Venice Beach area! We really enjoyed the rides on the bikes we've borrowed from Shelby!
She is easy to talk to and has some good advices on L.A. traffic and breakfast spots.
Thanks for having us Shelby! It was great!
