I didnt stay here personally. I booked this reservation for an out of town employee and his family attending RSA. His review is below:
The place is probably not the best choice for your next stay.
Located in one of SF's worst neighbourhood, you will see people shooting themselves with drugs, be lucky if you don't step on a needle and generally be disturbed by the omnipresent smell of pee.
To enter the place you have two choices: you can walk through a Chinese restaurant and go in the back, making sure you are not tumbling in the dark or other large amounts of junk sprayed on the floor. Keep in mind that you can only use this entrance during restaurant hours.
The other choice is via Stevenson St itself, a little known alley that most cab drivers don't even know about (you might get charged by Uber drivers that simply cannot find where the heck this is).
This alley is dangerous, in fact, you might see people get arrested, handcuffs and laying on the floor. Or you might see someone buy Cocaine off another person.
The place itself:
The place is rather large and spacious with a kitchen. Not a bad choice if you intend to cook but you will have to use the microwave.
There are only a limited number of towels and if you require more, you will have to wait until the soiled ones have been washed.
There is a TV but no cable, so bring your own entertainment.
All cleaning supplies are there, conveniently stored in the hallway.
Wifi is available but drops more often than you have the time to send an email.
The biggest complaint with the place is the noise. You will hear people walking up and down all night. Furniture being moved around. Doors being slammed. Ear plugs are a must if you want to get any sleep.
The host itself is not bad. He is accommodating and did bring an electric kettle to help deal with a child's seizure.
Gary & his wife were super cool and hospitable. He showed us a bit around the area & made sure we were taken care of, despite our situation being in a slight state of flux. The apartment was nice, clean and we could tell they do laundry on all the sheets & towels daily. It was the perfect crash spot for my friends & I after a concert.
I live in downtown LA, so this place felt right at home. This place is two blocks from the Westfield Shopping center in Union Square and also where the Cable Car ends. You can take it all the way up to Fishermans Wharf for a small fee of $6!! It gives you a good tour of the city in about half an hour! Great tip: if there is two or less people in your group you can use "Uber Pool" and it's only a flat rate of $7 anywhere in the city and $15 straight to SFO!! But you may share with other passengers, so just keep that in mind. The place looks like the pictures, but no stove- I didn't notice that, has a coffee maker and microwave. There is a grocery store a block away, you'll need to pick up drinks and coffee and coffee filter if you are like me that needs her daily coffee! I did request an iron and blow dryer that Gary provided the day of. The host Gary was really nice and met us up at the Civic Center/ 7th St entrance from the Bart. You can take the Bart straight from the airport avg. time is 40mins by train. This place, if you're not familiar with SF is called "the tenderloin" it is close to The Mission where they give free food to the homeless, so keep in mind that there are high volume of that type near by, mostly harmless. The entrance is in a back alley which made it hard for the uber drivers to find so another tip would be to use the front address to the "Oriental Restaurant.." Like I said in the beginning I am from the city so all the nitty gritty didn't bother me because I was looking for the cheapest place closest to everything and that's exactly what I got. Check out Mr. Smiths in SoMa just around the corner from the place!!! It is a great local bar with dance music!
Gary was ver nice and enjoyable. He's very responsive.
Gary accommodated our request for an earlier check in despite the fact that his check in policy was later. We had a flight that was coming in the morning and thus needed a place to drop off our bags while we were meeting with our vendors. Our flight was late, but Gary was true to his word and was even waiting for us at the apartment to greet us. Each day Gary was available and often was seen around the property. His communication was 2nd to none as well, and thus made for a great experience. I have read some of the other comments regarding a little sketchy back door entrance, though there are vagrants in the area, we never had any issues with any of them. In fact, really hard pressed not to see vagrants in general while wandering through SF. One plus was that since there were 2 of us, the separate toilet / shower was a great asset to our stay. All in all, for the price, and location being near a lot of attractions / transportation options, we would definitely stay here again. My overall experience rating is based on host, quality of place compared to prices around for the same accommodations, truth of posting (clear expectations from reviews as well as listed benefits), thus I leave 5 stars.
