The Space

My home is on Elwood & Brighton beach and within walking distance to St Kilda Beach, the most famous tourist spot in (website hidden) Kilda Pier is where fairy penguins have nests and is open to public viewing. This is where these cute penguins wander freely.
My house includes an outdoor spa/swimming pool.
1-2 minutes walk takes you to a sandy beach and sea where you can also swim and indulge in water sports.
10 minutes stroll on the beach to Elwood village where cafes and boutique shops abound.
Upmarket bayside neighbourhood in Church Street, Brighton. Best fish and chips and coffee in the world (my opinion only).
A bike trial runs all the way to the city.
5 minutes walk to bus that links with trams and trains to the city centre (Flinders street station and Southern Cross station that is linked to airport shuttles).
45 minutes by car to Tullarmarine International Airport.
5 minutes drive (and walkable if you don't have heavy luggage) to airport bus shuttle stop nearby. Shuttle takes you to airport in 40 minutes..
Yoga/meditation sessions are available in the house upon request.
5 minute drive to Argentinian tango/salsa walk-in classes.
The bedroom is big with its own separate entrance to the front garden. It is an ensuite (shower/toilet). Room has a double bed (antique) with custom made mattress. Room has been described as WOW!
Unique features of house/home: theatre/film studio/multi purpose space suitable for movies, meditation, yoga, massages, tango etc. A baby grand steinway piano.
We are a friendly mob that live here and seasoned travellers for over 20 years. We know most things round and about Melbourne and off the tourist tracks sights in Victoria. If you need to do the Great Ocean Rd, Wilsons Prom, Philip Island or whatever, let us know before you book the tours because we can do them at non tourists prices. Your rental and whatever you like to give us go towards our charities to support starving orphans in E Timor (Alola Foundation) Mirabel Foundation (drugs orphans in Melbourne) and PRASAD Australia in India. PRASAD supports a clinic that assists women and babies with aids. We thank you for collaborating with us to help others. There is no meaning in life unless we continue to share our resources and work towards a better world.

  • Staying with Moni and Phil was more like meeting old friends than being a paying guest! They were warm and welcoming, and I felt very looked after. The room was large and spacious with a very comfortable bed and private bathroom. There was a separate entrance so I could be completely self-contained if I wanted. Communication was clear with regards food, keys etc. They were also around to give details of where to go and how to get to places if necessary. The house is lovely, and I had the privilege of using the garden hot tub, even though the weather was not great! Moni and Phil are fabulous hosts and make you feel very welcome and cared for. The location is perfect if you want to be near the sea, but it is a bit of a walk to the nearest shops and train station. However it is a short and easy train ride into the city. Melbourne in April was colder than I expected, but generally the weather was fine for a city trip. I don't think I could have found a more welcoming couple or more lovely place to stay. Brighton Homestay was definitely the highlight of my Australia experience!

  • Unfortunately Moni was not around during my stay however she was always quick to communicate and answer any questions I had. Her sister however was present to welcome me and introduce me to my room and as luck would have it, I was to have the whole house to myself! The room was great, complete with it's own ensuite bathroom and side entrance and I did get to try out the pool and spa which were also fun. The location was great for accessing the beach and was about a 15-20 min drive into the city would suited me fine. Overall it was a great stay and made Melbourne very relaxing.

  • Unfortunately we were not able to meet with our host as she and her partner had to leave the day we were to arrive, but we did exchange numerous messages via text/email and phone. In all these communications Moni proved to be the most attentive and thoughtful of hosts. She was hoping to stay around long enough on the day we were to arrive to welcome us and cook for us!!, but alas we were getting in too late.

When we arrived we were met by one of her adult children who gave us a very thorough briefing in regard to the many magical qualities of her beautiful home. Her taste in furnishings is exquisite, each object pregnant with stories and personal histories that we longed to hear about - hopefully next time Moni!

Our bedroom was very spacious and comfortable, the shower in particular was luxurious. The drawing room with its grand piano and gigantic tv screen and the separate lounge with its Persian
rugs and gorgeous sofas was simply divine. And then the outdoor area screened off by a towering bamboo hedge contained and a beautiful pool, spa and small indoor cinema complex - had we died and gone to heaven?!

My partner and I recommend the host and their home without reservation. Five stars seems a little modest to us, we are giving it a six star rating!

Thank you Matthew. You are so kind and generous and we are so happy that your stay in our home went ok, us not being there to welcome and host you and your wife properly. Thank you so much for the flowers and all the food in the fridge. Do come again anytime and hopefully we will be here to cook you and your wife. Buddha blessings for a sweet life!

  • Staying at moni's place was a delight. The home so warm and inviting, with a very spacious bedroom overlooking gorgeous gardens. Location close to the water and walking tracks was great but quite a distance from the city on public transport. All in all a beautiful stay though and highly recommended.

  • Highly recommended. Clean, tidy, very comfortable and well appointed. Well located for what we wanted, which was access to family in the area but also to cafes and shops. Access to the beach was a bonus. Moni's and Phil's house itself takes the cake. Beautifully renovated to the original but with owner's stylish mark. So restful. All that was missing were the pandas.

  • Moni is the perfect host. From my first communication with her she came across as very helpful, flexible and sensible, but in person she is so much more, going out of her way to make you feel welcome in her home to the point that you feel you have been her best friend for years. She is an incredibly vivacious, charming, intuitive, caring person and absolute fun to be around.
The room is a huge double with en suite and its own garden entrance, the house is huge and very cool (I was there during a very hot period) the pool and garden area (with yoga platform, rustling bamboo borders and a huge bougainvillea arch) is very chilled and calming and the pool is really beautiful and very well maintained by Phil, who also has an amazing understanding of the world and enjoys conversing on wide ranging issues. Both Moni and Phil do not intrude but are available to assist, chat, help and generally be ‘there for you’ as much or as little as you want.
The accommodation is fabulous value and the only down point is when you have to leave!

About
I am a writer, playwright, poet and a seasoned traveller, consulting all over the globe (0ver 20 years) on doing business in Asia and Australia. Airbnb is great for me as it is a collaborative community of like minded people. I enjoy doing it tremendously meeting all sorts, shapes and colours in my listings in Australia. My partner in travel is Felipe or Phil. He is bilingual (English & Spanish) having lived in south america for 20 years. Together we roam round the world singing, putting events on and generally have a good time. Felipe has a listing in Langkawi, Malaysia on airbnb as well. Langkawi Hut - 10 steps to the sea is quite an experience and we live there when we are not in Brighton 4 doors to the sea. As you can see, we love the sea. We should have been born as dolphins. For more about us, you will need to come and stay with us.
