About This Listing
The private terrace of 'Le Petit Lapin': perfect for a glass of wine after a day out at Mont Saint Michel!
On the Brittany-Normandy border, 'Le Petit Lapin' is a traditional Breton cottage located on top of a hill in the small village of Sains, nine kilometres from the famous medieval site of Mont Saint Michel. Renting from Saturday to Saturday in high season and by the night (2 nights minimum) the rest of the year, this small self-catering holiday cottage sleeping 2-4 people has a lovely view over the Couesnon Valley to the south.
The lively market town of Pontorson, the gateway to Mont Saint Michel, is six kilometres to the east in Normandy, while Dol de Bretagne, with its ancient cathedral, is eight kilometres to the west in Brittany. Dol additionally boasts several fine restaurants and a public indoor swimming pool.
Sandy beaches are a thirty-minute drive from the house, as is dramatic cliff-walking near Cancale, a town famed for its oysters. Saint Malo, with its old walled town and a large aquarium, is also a thirty-minute drive, as is the beautiful medieval town of Dinan and the seaside town of Dinard. Rennes, the capital of Brittany, is a hour away and has a fabulous Saturday market, but there are plenty of colourful local markets throughout the week in Dol (Saturday), Saint James (Monday) and Pontorson (Wednesday).
Please note that the minimum stay is usually two nights, but I prefer week-long bookings in the summer (July and August), due to the region's popularity, although I am happy to make exceptions if there is availability. Monthly rentals are normally only available November through March.

Le "petit lapin" is, quite simply, the perfect place to stay near the Mont Saint Michel (only 15 kilometers away, yet very quiet and away from the groups)! Our communication with Caroline went very smoothly prior to our arrival. And out of her way she went to welcome us with our two children! Everything in the cottage is exactly as shown in the pictures. We are happy to give a very strong recommendation, without any reservations!
We had a great time both staying at Le Petit Lapin as well as meeting Caroline and Tom. The cottage is well appointed, very comfortable, and set alongside a beautiful orchard with rolling fields in the background. The location in Sains serves as a convenient base from which to explore Mont Saint-Michel as well as Saint-Malo, Cancale and some lovely beaches in between. Caroline provided a lot of great recommendations and information for the area and is a very welcoming host. We look forward to visiting again in the future!
About the Host, Caroline
I'm a writer and a retired university professor of English now living in Brittany, a very beautiful part of France. My little cottage is beside my large granite farm house and I am happy to welcome visitors here from all over the world.
This is a good traditional restaurant near Mont St Michel with a gorgeous view of the abbey over the polders from the terrace or the inside. Theres a choice of set menus at reasonable prices, too.Route de la Rive Ardevon Pontorson 50170
This is a local restaurant in a large 18th-century granite farm house with an open fire. Prices are reasonable; there are quiet tables in corners for couples, but its quite family-friendly, too!La Cour Verte Dol-de-Bretagne Bretagne 35120
A Breton restaurant 10 min from Le Petit Lapin, with a gorgeous granite fireplace (cosy in winter) and a terrace (lovely in summer sun). Prices are reasonable and the owner welcomes families.Dol-de-Bretagne Bretagne 35120
