Brittany Cottage near Mt St Michel

House - Entire home/apt · Rue du Haut Frêne, Sains, Brittany 35610, France

The Space

On the Brittany-Normandy border, 'Le Petit Lapin' is a traditional Breton cottage located on top of a hill in the small village of Sains, nine kilometres from the famous medieval site of Mont Saint Michel. Renting from Saturday to Saturday in high season and by the night (2 nights minimum) the rest of the year, this small self-catering holiday cottage sleeping 2-4 people has a lovely view over the Couesnon Valley to the south.
The lively market town of Pontorson, the gateway to Mont Saint Michel, is six kilometres to the east in Normandy, while Dol de Bretagne, with its ancient cathedral, is eight kilometres to the west in Brittany. Dol additionally boasts several fine restaurants and a public indoor swimming pool.
Sandy beaches are a thirty-minute drive from the house, as is dramatic cliff-walking near Cancale, a town famed for its oysters. Saint Malo, with its old walled town and a large aquarium, is also a thirty-minute drive, as is the beautiful medieval town of Dinan and the seaside town of Dinard. More information on my website-- address sent once we are in contact by email!
Please note that, due to the region's popularity, in the summer (July and August) only week-long Saturday-to-Saturday bookings are possible, although I am happy to make exceptions if there is last-minute availability. Monthly rentals are normally only available November through March.

  • Le Petit Lapin est un exquis petit cottage au vert et au calme, idéalement situé à la frontière entre Bretagne et Normandie. On n'y manque absolument de rien ! Un séjour très agréable malgré l'absence de Caroline, toujours très réactive.

  • The "Petit Lapin" was charming, and Caroline a very gracious host, accommodating my wife and me and our three adult children, making room in her home for two of them. Sains is a charming and authentic little community in Brittany, with easy access to roads leading to Mont St. Michel, Rennes, and other interesting villages. The home is relatively small, but warm and with all the amenities desired. Especially helpful were all the maps and guides, and it was interesting to read the journal of the adventures shared by guests worldwide.

    Response from Caroline:

It was a real pleasure to have you here, Roger-- all the best to you and your family for 2014!

  • We had a wonderful visit at Le Petit Lapin for Christmas Eve and Christmas night. Caroline was good enough to realize that our arrival from Paris on the holiday would make both shopping and restaurants unfeasible and offered to buy groceries for us. She was able to get some wonderful salmon and shrimp for us (of course, with our reimbursement), and then lent us the appropriate baking dish to complement the very complete kitchen. The cottage itself was very comfortable, extremely clean and more than met our expectations. Its proximity to Caroline's main house made it easy to arrange flexible arrival and departure without feeling that we were inconveniencing her, even in the midst of Christmas celebrations. Caroline's informational binder in the cottage included suggested trips that informed our pleasurable Christmas day, after having been up very late Christmas Eve for a candle lit vigil and midnight mass at the Abbey on Mont St Michel. I can't imagine a nicer accommodation and experience visiting Brittany!

    Response from Caroline:

Thank you, Kate and family! It was really special to be able to host you on Christmas; I so much enjoyed being able to welcome you here at such a memorable time of year!

  • Caroline was an excellent host! She was extremely friendly and helpful. Her cottage is absolutely perfect and the property is gorgeous! She made great suggestions for our stay and was readily available by phone when we had questions. The cottage is in a perfect location, allowing us to drive to St. Mali, Cancale, Mt St. Michel and Normandy. My husband and I highly recommend a stay at Le Petit Lapin!

Thank you for your kind comments, Monica-- it was a real pleasure to have you both here! My very best wishes, Caroline

  • We had a wonderful time at Caroline's cottage. Le Petit Lapin is extremely charming, comfortable, and very well equipped. The location of the cottage was perfect, with easy access to Mont St-Michel, St-Malo, Dinan, and other treasures of the region. Even though we didn't get to meet Caroline in person, we had very smooth communications. She is well organized, and there was plenty of information about the cottage and the region waiting for us when arrived. We will happily stay here again the next time we're in the region.

  • Le Petit Lapin was a great place to stay to see Mont St Michele and to settle into life in the French Countryside. The local market was wonderful and the kitchen of le Petit had everything that we needed to cook with. The setting is superb and the fruit trees were a real bonus. Very enjoyable.

  • Caroline's description of le Petit Lapin was very accurate and in fact we found it even more perfect. The location is extremely tranquil and private with a lovely patio area and then vast orchard to sit and enjoy the view. We loved the attention to detail in the cottage with great lighting, kitchen equipment and heating if you want it. There were a lot of very personal touches which showed that Caroline really cared about her guests and it made us want to really look after the cottage while we were there. Great location being near to Mont St Michel, st Malo, Dinan and Dol de Bretagne. We will definitely return again with our bikes as it is great cycling country. Thank you Caroline very much for making our short stay such a delightful experience. Kay and Geoff
