Description

The space

"Harbourview" is in the heart of Darling Point - two minutes walk to the harbour side parks, yacht clubs, buses, trains and ferries and just ten minutes to the heart of the city. The apartment takes up the entire top floor of a 1920s mansion, yet (because the rest of the house is lower than the road), the entrance to the apartment is level with the street: just 5 metres from the off-street car parking and you're straight into the apartment's own front door.

You'll enter (using your electronic swipe card) into an art-gallery of a hallway which draws you straight through to the open plan kitchen, dining room, sun-deck and living room - all with magnificent views across the harbour.

The kitchen's perfect for entertaining: it's equipped with two massive fridges, European appliances, vegetable steamer, Billi hot and chilled water tap, two ovens, pantry, and, of course, microwave, dishwasher and gas cook top. One push of a button and a glass wall magically disappears opening the whole kitchen/dining area onto the sun deck area: comfortably shaded in summer, and beautifully sun-drenched in winter.

The living room's star attraction is the built-in Bang & Olufsen system including a monumental 65" plasma cinema screen, powerful B&O amplifiers, media-distribution system and sub-woofer.

The master bedroom is connected to the living room by a sliding wall: with the wall open you feel as though you're in the most enormous bedroom imaginable; with the wall slid shut you're in your own private sanctuary complete with a sumptuous walk-in wardrobe with oodles of drawers and hanging space, and a travertine bathroom to die for. Underfloor heating, a wonderfully comfortable "egg-shaped" bath, twin basins and a rain-forest shower - what more could you want?

The second bedroom also has a sumptuous ensuite bathroom (complete with a Miele laundry and rain-forest shower) but it also boasts a very handy kitchenette just in case the kitchen feels as though it's too far away!

Outside there's off-street parking for two cars. Needless to say, there's reverse-cycle air-conditioning throughout the house and, in winter, a really cosy gas fire in the living room heats the whole place. Included is free wifi, Netflix, and free phone calls within Australia.

Darling Point is truly one of the best places to live in Sydney: so close to the city, equally close to Bondi, and in just two minutes you're in Rushcutter's park with the coffee shops and yacht clubs. 500m away is Edgecliff Centre with the bus and train terminus, supermarkets and shopping centre. And then within a ten minute walk you have the restaurants and night life of Potts Point, or the shops and cafes of Paddington.

Guest access

Two fabulous king-sized and queen-sized bedrooms (both with ensuite marble bathrooms); sensational weather-protected sun deck overlooking Sydney Harbour; sumptuous chef's kitchen; luxurious air-conditioned living areas with Bang & Olufsen stereo and TV; wifi; parking place.

Interaction with guests

We'll be on the end of a phone to sort out any queries.

The neighborhood

Darling Point is one of Sydney's most exclusive suburbs - just the minutes from the city in one direction and ten minutes to Bondi Beach in the other - and yet it's beautifully quiet, overlooks a wonderful park and is just a few minutes walk to the harbour shore and yacht clubs.

There are ample shops, supermarket etc within easy walking distance just up the road, and cafes, bars and restaurants just round the corner.

Getting around

There are buses a couple of hundred metres away, a ferry wharf down the end of the road and a train station 500 metres away. (Or else it's a 45 minute walk to the Opera House and the centre of town).

David was a great host! Communications were easy and quick! The home was perfect - they thought of everything like open closets, amazing rose soap (my fave), bfast/snack items, great linens and towels! And just can't say enough about the absolutely AMAZING view - we were there for NYE and the fireworks were awesome! Electronics were amazing and easy to use! You did a superb job with your "house instructions" as well - thanks for thinking of everything! We loved loved loved it!

We stayed in David's home for 5 weeks and had a wonderful time. David was in touch in good time before our arrival and stayed in touch to make sure everything was OK. He was quick to fix the little things that crop up over an extended stay. The house was clean, comfortable and had all the mod cons. Everything was just as in the photo's. We invited good friends over for dinner a few times and the house was perfect for this. Everyone loved the place and view. The location is perfect......you can walk to Edgecliff Station (3 stops into the city), Elizabeth Bay, Double Bay or just Rushcutter's Bay Park right below you. We were blessed with 5 weeks of beautiful weather which didn't hurt a bit. We has a wonderful time. David was a relaxed, charming host and captain (we enjoyed a delightful sunset harbour cruise on David's yacht). We plan to go back as soon as we can.

David was great to work with since the day I booked his listing for my boss! He was communicative, helpful and went above and beyond his host duties. The home is amazingly located and an incredible view to boot! I would highly recommend this place for families or friends traveling to Sydney and want a truly luxury and local experience :) Thank you David!

We spent 31 days in David's flat and the apartment was excellent and lived 100% up to our expectations. The view is fantastic and everything in the flat was as presented by David - a luxurious apartment in a quiet, upscale part of Sydney. If there was anything to sort out then David did his best to resolve the matter. If we travel to Sydney again then we would not hesitate to stay here again.

We had an AWESOME time at David's apartment! 6* would be a more appropriate score! The pictures simply don't do this place justice. We'd often spend our breakfasts gazing out at the fold back doors onto the harbour below. The view is just absolutely stunning. One of the other highlights is the huge bathroom off the main bedroom which has been beautifully and very thoughtfully specified with 2 separate basins, an amazing power-shower, and some lighting touches which are a design masterpiece. What a pleasure to get ready in the morning! The situation of David's home also bears a mention. It is SO easy to walk out the door and get a taxi or a train into the city. And with an upscale restaurant 2 steps down the road, we just felt we were in a truly lovely part of town. I am already planning a return trip to Sydney in 2013 and will be making a bee-line for David's place again. If one compares hotels or apartments in the area (or down at the Rocks for that matter) with David's place, there simply is no contest, particularly in terms of value and I think this is so important to travellers these days. Thank you David for an amazing stay. It really made our holiday.

My colleagues and I had an amazing time at David's place. We were on a work trip, and didn't want to stay in a soulless, lifeless hotel where we would have to use the business centre for meetings and eat at a sub-par restaurant. The minute we opened the door to his apartment, we couldn't believe our good fortune. It was huge, spick and span, with the most gorgeous view of the harbour. The huge living/dining area became my team's office/home for 2 weeks and it made the going so much easier and it was pure joy and luxury to have that kind of space, view and comfort. The internet was fast, he had a printer - it was absolutely ideal. David himself was an awesome and incredibly generous host. On top of being super efficient, responsive and accommodating, he also took us out on his boat. My team and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect stay. Thank you so much Dave!
