The adjacent parcels are agriculture too, yet many natural forests and plants abound.
A car is a must. Just please drive slow on our community road. There are some children and lots of wild birds.

Rick met me at his own driveway (Wrong turn-in)! A very affable and gentle giant, who carefully walked me through a self-contained, off the grid spacious cottage on the mountainside - a 5A., self-sustaining coffee, fruit & vegetable farm.
I loved my 4 days there, and the pleasant farewell at the end. It is indeed a place embedded in the Hawai'ian way, a time and a culture not often evident in the shoreline crush & pace.
It was damp on the mountain, but it was also not backbreakingly hot. Altogether a wonderful experience.
We had a very late flight into Kona, Rick generously let us show up after midnight even though we were not scheduled until the next day. Good directions, worked just fine even though it was very dark and we were tired. Next day he promptly greeted us and showed us around the place and gave us great advice on local area. This is a great place to get away, if you want to spend time south of Kona to southern end of big island.
What a beautiful place! Spacious, well stocked, beautiful tropical garden/environment, ocean view and quiet.
Interesting to experience how an off-grid cottage is designed, what it takes to operate it and how confortable it is! With a little care there is always enough power and (warm) water.
Rick was a great host. He gave us a nice introduction and was always available for questions.
We had a great holiday!
My husband and I had an great time in Rick's cabin. The space was clean, comfortable, and stocked with everything we needed including snorkeling gear. It was interesting to learn about the off-the-grid water and energy systems that make this cabin sustainable. The view was spectacular and we were close to snorkeling spots and great beaches. Rick gave us good advice about where to go and made us feel very welcome. I highly recommend this place.
We spent four days at Rick's place and loved it! This is an experience of Hawaii that you will not get in your condo or your resort. It is far enough south to be off the beaten tourist track. When you sit on the lanai to watch the sunset (and sip your glass of wine) you will not hear another human sound. There are birds and frogs making their music but no cars or noisy neighbors. The view is stunning: you are looking down a verdant hillside, rich greens and reds, fruits and flowers growing everywhere and the view rolls out to the Pacific. We loved this place. It is accurately described. It is off the grid but everything worked beautifully. There was always power and warm water. Rick visited and let us know he was available if there were any questions or problems. He left us oranges to make fresh juice for breakfast but otherwise he was respectful of our privacy. If you cannot be without your microwave for a few days then this is not the place for you but if you want to get a feel for the non-tourist version of Hawaii and if you want to see how comfortably you can live with barely a carbon footprint, this place will amaze you.
This farm cottage is the perfect getaway if you want to be surrounded by nature, have a great view of the ocean and be totally off the grid! Rick was an excellent host, he is so knowledgeable about Hawaii and sustainable farming. I loved staying here, highly recommend it!!
Rick was a fabulous host - generous, helpful, and respectful. He made us feel at home and comfortable, and thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with him. The description of the place was accurate, and we loved the rural setting and being removed from the tourist centers. Also loved the sounds of birds during the day and the frogs at night. We made the most of our days exploring the island, but it was so nice to come home to our own private accommodations at night to make dinner and relax. Great views and delicious fresh fruit for the picking.
A great holiday, thanks Rick!
