This private tropical cottage is made for two in Hawaiian comfort. It is located in the heart of the Kona Coffee Belt.

The cottage has a full size kitchen and all that is needed to cook up a storm with local fresh fish, fruits and more. Think king size bed will lull you to sleep after a day in the water or touring Volcano NP.

We grow delicious avocados, citrus, cacao, coffee and an assortment of citrus, all the while integrating it into the natural landscape. We use no pesticides ever.

The space

The lovely private fully appointed cabin awaits the chance to spoil you Hawaiian Style. In S. Kona near the best snorkeling spots in the islands. Plush king bed, full kitchen and "green" design.

This is a working farm as are the neighboring parcels. Visitors are invited to learn and participate in the farm activities as part of your stay We pay a nice wage or it can be credited to your account if you elect to join in. This is what we call Agricultural Tourism.

The ocean views here are spectacular and we are only less than two miles to the nearest and a beach, Kaohe aka Pebble Beach.

The cottage is nestled in forest and coffee plantation land and in season guests are free to pick fruit, avocados and bananas.

We have just added a LED TV and its gets the local channels. If you have a laptop and a HDMI video connection you can stream all kinds of movies and shows via our internet WIFI.

The kitchen is huge and with the full size stove one could even bake something BIG.

Just this month (Dec) we installed a new king size bed and guests says it is great

The well-known beaches and diving snorkeling spots are 6 to 12 miles away. Don't leave here without snorkeling Honaunau Bay aka Two Step. Itʻs the best in the islands.

We are at 1500 feet and winter nights can be cool 60"s so come prepared.

The nearest convenience store is 7 miles aways and a full market 12 in Captain Cook.

Please read the cottage terms and become familiar with Air BNB terms and fees. In the BNB terms, please note "As a Guest, you are responsible for leaving the Accommodation in the condition it was in when you arrived"

The cottage occupancy is 2 only. Do to local restrictions, I am not able to grant exceptions.

The state of Hawaii has discovered AirBnB and now is requiring all hosts to collect sales and occupancy tax. The combined rate is 13.25%. That tax is included in the Cleaning Fee for accounting purposes.

Local knowledge will help make for a pleasant stay............. Aloha Kakou !!

Guest access

Guests are welcome to hike around the farm and experience the integration of agriculture into the natural environment. Come relax and meditate during sunset in the gazebo. For a good workout hike down and up the access road it will definitely get the heart rate up there.

Interaction with guests

I very much enjoy sharing Hawaii nei. I am happy to teach our guests the in and outs of farming in Hawaii as I am earner to get people out on the land to appreciate how unique agriculture is in the Islands. I also enjoy sharing the history and culture of this nation that is also a state.

Other things to note

Access to the ocean is nearby in several spots. Don't miss them.
Ho‘okena Beach. Our only sandy beach ~ 5 miles N.
Honaunau Bay, some of the best snorkeling in the islands
Do not miss seeing Volcano National Park, its always smokin and more.
If you bring some really warm clothes and have the right kind of car, drive to the top of Mauna Kea 13000 feet high. The sunsets will take your breath away, right along with the altitude.

Staying in Rick's cottage is a unique experience. The location is amazing and you can enjoy the most incredible view of ocean and local vegetation. Frogs, birds and roosters provide a constant and pleasant sound track. The solar + battery system works very well as the kitchen appliances and shower. Rick is very responsive and eager to welcome you and share his great knowledge about the surroundings and Hawaii. Terrific beaches in the area. Rick shares snorkeling kits and other beach gear.

Rick's place was fantastic and exactly what we were looking for: a little place on a fruit farm away from the larger towns. It was close to the beach and a pretty good grocery store. It was very private and a nice place to spend the day on the lanai. Rick was also very accommodating and knowledgable about the area.

Rick's place was as we expected and we had a great time listening to the frogs and watching the sunset.

Rick's place is away from it all. It was very peaceful with mainly animal sounds interrupting the quiet. The bird song and frogs were pleasant. We picked seasonal fruit and enjoyed fresh squeezed OJ and fantastic avocados. My companion had some issues with air quality by the end of the week - we think it is related to vog from the eruption to the east. I didn't have any issues, however I was scuba diving and some distance away for a good part of our stay.

Wonderful place, Rick was a great host, and we had a great time! Off the grid with solar, rain collected from the roof, and composting toilet. Very eco-friendly, and still normal amenities you'd expect from a house rental with a full kitchen, etc. Steep driveway and far south, but worth the extra time driving if you need to go out for dinner or to a local market.

Response from Rick:
Thanks the steep drive takes some getting use to, but it keeps the looky loos out.

I am a semi retired academic yet still working as a small farmer and consultant in the health and nutrition sciences. The Hawaiian culture and spirit is a blessing and inspiration. I love this life, and the culture.
