The space
Getting its name from the whalebone architectural design, this cottage has been through a true fixer upper transformation, all envisioned and designed by the owners, Gary & Lisa Ward.
This well appointed 3 bedroom, 2 full bath home surrounded by forest, boast crisp white ship lap walls and high airy ceilings accented with locally milled timber beams. Large windows showcase the tall trees on property, but are equipped with black out shades for restful sleeping. Last but not least, the trademark shape of a whales rib cage - making it truly, a unique place to stay!
The furnishings and bedding are luxurious and extremely comfortable, reflecting a seamless style of Modern Mountain Farmhouse & Contemporary Cottage.
A well stocked kitchen with high end appliances make it easy for making dinners in and plenty of outdoor deck space to relax, gather and enjoy the surroundings of wild Montana.
Find chillier days welcoming with the sound of the wood burning stove, the focal point of the living room. Central air is main source for heating and cooling.
WiFi and cable are available to guests.

Other things to note
Please be aware of potentially encountering a variety of wildlife, some being dangerous such as bear, moose and mtn. lions. Feel free to walk around and explore but always have bear spray on hand, which will be provided.

The neighbors black lab named Jango is free roaming and visits often if not everyday. He is very large and very sweet and is an excellent wildlife watch dog. Please be kind to him.

The road to the cottage is about 4 miles in and it is dirt/gravel mix and can be bumpy in sections.
All wheel drive vehicles are needed to get to the cottage during winter months.

Neighborhood highlights

Off the beaten path; located at the end of a gravel road, the Whale Bone Cottage is nestled in a residential but remote area called Haskill Basin, less than 10 minutes from Downtown Whitefish. Due to the road being unpaved, one may experience pot holes. Please be cautious of the conditions and drive slow when its icy... welcome to Montana!
(2 wheel drive is not recommended in the winter months)

Haskill Basin parking area and trail head is located just a couple miles from the cottage. Biking and trail running is popular in the summer and groomed trails bring x-country skiers alike. We suggest renting a set up! This is an incredible trail system and connects with other trails that will take you all the way to Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort, if you dare to travel that far (it is all downhill on the way back).
Trails can be navigated by Trail Forks phone App in the summer. In the winter months-trail maps are sporadic but present throughout the trails system.
