About this listing
We are a great and safe place for single travelers. Centrally located. You can use the kitchen, living room, outside area to sit and drink your morning coffee or tea.
Quiet, small room in a 3 bedroom house, double bed, share bath, kitchen and living area. Convenient to everywhere on the island and close to downtown. We are 2 professional housemates that have shared this house for 7 years - one male and one female. One is a professional classical musician and choir director. You'll get the benefit of his playing nightly. The other is the volunteer coordinator at the local homeless shelter. We are up on a hillside with lovely city and partial ocean views. There is ample street parking and getting to the 3 major freeways is less than a mile in any direction - we think of ourselves as being in the center of universe of Oahu. Easy access to Windward side, Waikiki, Downtown and Leeward side. Just 2 miles from downtown. 15-20 minutes to airport. Having a rental car is recommended for convenience although some very hearty and adventurous house guests have managed on the city bus.
My room is really only appropriate for a person traveling alone because the room is small and we all share one bathroom.
I'm happy to make coffee and provide a light breakfast if I know your preferences in advance. I hate to have lots of bagels on hand if you're gluten intolerant. I also enjoy giving input on local sites and activities since I used to be in the travel industry and am quite familiar with the island and its attractions.
House guests often take their coffee out on the front porch to enjoy the ocean and downtown view.
My cat, Picasso, loves house guests too.
You are welcome to utilize the kitchen. We make fridge and cupboard space for food. We also have a washer and dryer that you can use. Our home is your home while you are here.
You have access to kitchen and living room, front porch and back yard. We will make room in fridge and pantry if you need.
Interaction with Guests
We are available to give suggestions on what to see and do, help with directions and have coffee in the mornings with you.
Our neighborhood is a very quiet, residential area.
The nearest bus stop is a block away.
Other Things to Note
Easy and convenient on-street parking
This is a quiet household - we watch TV with headphones to accommodate sensitivities to noise levels - especially while musician is playing the piano.
Feel free to use the kitchen.
Nice back yard with patio to eat out or just relax
I felt very welcomed here! Catherine is a very kind and thoughtful host! She made breakfast every morning and drove me and my things to my permanent residence in the west area of the island--very grateful! The room is just like the pictures and her cats were very sweet. I especially liked the view from her home of the city at night. This was a very positive experience here!
Good neighborhood with good views of the city. Description was perfect. Music in the evening was great. I took the bus a few times which has one transfer and takes about a hour, with a walk to the end of the block included, to get to Waikiki beach. Catherine made me feel at home and it was a great experience.
From the initial request for Airbnb living arrangement (only my third), Catherine was the most gracious host that one could as for. The correspondence with her was quick and responsive; she even offered to pick me up at the airport. The location could not have been better and the view from the hillside was amazing from the entry level walkway. Safe street level parking was available. The private room was as pictured and very accommodating for my minimalist requirements. My trip was mostly for business; with wireless internet and a work space accommodation was wonderful. She even brought me hot coffee while working on her back patio table early in the am (soo so great)!
I also must mention, that i was so lucky to be able to afford sometime to assist her with some of her non-profit social endeavors (helping the less fortunate/ homeless families); Catherine is a very giving lady.
Catherine is such a sweet, very knowledgeable (about the local area) and a helpful host. With no question, I will be back and stay with her again (if available).
Catherine was a great host! She picked me up from the airport and made me feel welcome. The room was as described, cozy and nice.
I would recommend to stay in this quiet and tropical neigbourhood. It is also good to have a car, because the bus takes 45 minutes to Waikiki.
Communication with Catherine was quick. She made certain she could be there when I arrived. The room was quiet and breezy. Her place was just as described. This is one of the older neighborhoods in Honolulu, convenient to almost anywhere in Honolulu but quiet and calm and a bit up the hill with a good view.
Catherine was really welcoming and thoughtful.
