Quiet, small room in a 3 bedroom house, double bed, share bath, kitchen and living area. Convenient to everywhere on the island and close to downtown. We are 2 professional housemates that have shared this house for 7 years - one male and one female. One is a professional classical musician and choir director. You'll get the benefit of his playing nightly. The other is the volunteer coordinator at the local homeless shelter. We are up on a hillside with lovely city and partial ocean views. There is ample street parking and getting to the 3 major freeways is less than a mile in any direction - we think of ourselves as being in the center of universe of Oahu. Easy access to Windward side, Waikiki, Downtown and Leeward side. Just 2 miles from downtown. 15-20 minutes to airport. Having a rental car is recommended for convenience although some very hearty and adventurous house guests have managed on the city bus.
My room is really only appropriate for a person traveling alone because the room is small and we all share one bathroom.
I'm happy to make coffee and provide a light breakfast if I know your preferences in advance. I hate to have lots of bagels on hand if you're gluten intolerant. I also enjoy giving input on local sites and activities since I used to be in the travel industry and am quite familiar with the island and its attractions.
House guests often take their coffee out on the front porch to enjoy the ocean and downtown view.
My cat, Picasso, loves house guests too.
You are welcome to utilize the kitchen. We make fridge and cupboard space for food. We also have a washer and dryer that you can use. Our home is your home while you are here.
I had a wonderful time in Hawaii, and I am so thankful Catherine opened up her home for me to stay. I didn't get to talk to her often, because I was out and about a lot, but when we did she was very sweet and doing such wonderful work for the shelter she works for. I got musical lullabies from a practicing musician roommate of hers that helped me sleep. :)
I enjoyed my stay with Catherine. the room was clean and very comfortable and Catherine was a great host. She gave me great information and great conversation. would go back and stay agene
I had a fantastic time staying at Catherine's house. She is a very caring person who aims to help you have a fantastic time whilst you are in Hawaii. I would recommend staying with Catherine if you do not want to be down in the craziness Waikiki. It is a little hike to get places, but the bus system is very good in Hawaii. Thank you Catherine for having me come stay and good luck with all the charity work you do for your community.
A terrific base to explore the island from! Catherine, her housemate, and her cat Picasso were all very welcoming. Having coffee on the front porch with a view of Honolulu and Picasso in my lap was a treasured moment.
Wonderful stay in a very welcoming house and a beautiful (and definetely cheery) room in Honolulu!
Catherine and her housemate are very friendly, interesting and helpful people and truly share their house with you. The view of Downtown Honolulu and the sunsets from the front porch are amazing and I found it extremely refreshing to come back to such a tranquil environment after a long sightseeing day in the busy city. I had no rental car and was a bit anxious how this would work out, but if you like to walk and do not mind a bit of exercise walking uphill when you go back to the house (very manageable), it's perfectly fine. The bus system works well and the house is pretty central to everything. Catherine also kindly gave me some rides when she was headed into the same direction. Focusing on the cultural and historic sights in Honolulu I haven't tried to discover other parts of Oahu though which might be more of a challenge.
Thank you very much, Catherine, for a great stay in Honolulu, super yummy scones and please pet Picasso for me! :)
The room is great! So cozy and charming. The home has a wonderful view of the city from the hill it is on and it is centrally located near the major highways. Catherine is a lovely host. I could not speak more highly of her. She is very welcoming and her and her housemate are very helpful with advice on things to do and local knowledge for how to get there the easiest. I had a great time and will definitely return to book here next time I come to Oahu!
Catherine was a great host and she was very accommodating when I had to arrive early. She was also able to guide me on anything I needed to go to as well as provide great recommendations on what to visit during my abridged stay. I wish I could have stayed longer, but fate had other plans for me. It was the little things that made this stay so wonderful (complimentary beach towel, bagels and coffee in the morning). Everything was I had hope and more. Thanks again Catherine!
Catherine gave me a warm welcome to Oahu. Her house is comfortable and clean with a great view. She helped me get oriented to Oahu with suggestions on where to find bargains and even where to go swing dancing, I would recommend Catherine to anyone wanting a place to stay in Honolulu.
Catherine is an amazing, generous, hospitable hostess. We enjoyed great conversations, went to picnic and listen to a concert at the zoo, and she had many great tips and suggestions. I’ve gone to Hawaii every summer for the last 20 years, but she showed me some things that I never knew about. Also enjoyed hanging out with her kitty :) 2 thumbs up!!!
Staying with Catherine was an amazing experience. She had the courtesy to pick me up and drop me off from the airport. Also she helped me find things to do and get around to aid in my tourist activities. It was nice to wake up and sit out on her porch and overlook the ocean and city with beautiful mountains in the background, all while petting Picasso (her cat). I would recommend anyone to stay with Catherine.
