Unfortunately in August we had to cancel some reservations at the last minute as we both got sick. My wife ended up in the hospital with pneumonia and an irregular heart rate, I had a persistent earache, so we were unable to host our listing for a period of time.

There is limited bus service around the island, it is about 1 1/2 mile walk to the bus-stop. We recommend you get a rental car, as the walk from town is uphill.
There is good snorkeling and swimming at Kahalu'u beach, about 15 minutes drive south of us, with easy ocean access for beginners. Also easy access swimming and snorkeling at the beach in front of the King Kamehameha Hotel, about 7 minutes drive from our house. You can rent snorkel equipment at the beach.

Interaction with Guests
We are home most of the time. We like to interact with our guests, greet them when they arrive, help them decide where to go and what to see on the Big Island, and share our travel experiences.
We live on a quiet cul-de -sac in one of the older subdivisions (with underground utility lines). We are fairly close to town, we get cool ocean breezes on our ocean-facing lanai.. We enjoy the sound of the birds during the day, and the lack of noise at night. We have a beautiful shady garden with lots of trees and flowering plants.
There is a very limited bus service around the island but it is about I mile walk to the bus-stop. There is a shuttle bus in town that goes along the waterfront for about 5 miles, with stops at some shopping areas. We strongly recommend that visitors rent a car, as it is a steep walk from town to our house. Parking is available in our car-port under the house.
Other Things to Note
Our guest facilities are a bedroom and adjoining bathroom in our two-bedroom, two bathroom home. They are not totally separate from our living space. Our guests share our home and we try to respect each other's privacy.

Herzlichen Dank - Malaho!!
Staying with Colin and his wife was just right for us. The house is close to the center and yet in a quiet area. From the terrace you even have a ocena view. The couple is very nice and communicative. They really like to get in contact with travelers. We could talk excellent and would not hesitate to stay with them again. Thank you!
It was great staying in Colin & Rowena's place. They are such great hosts and very nice to talk to! The place is close to airport and town. A pleasant experience for sure!

About the Host, Colin
My wife Rowena and I moved to Kailua-Kona in 1996. We love it here in Kona, this is our last stop on our voyage through life! We have a catering business (website hidden), we coordinate and cater private parties, weddings and special events up to 70 guests. If you would like to enjoy a gourmet home-cooked dinner instead of going to a restaurant, we will be happy to accommodate you. Before moving to Kona we ran a 65ft charteryacht in the Virgin Islands, showing guests how to sail, snorkel and windsurf, providing 3 meals a day and open bar. In 1983 I sailed a 41ft sailboat from Los Angeles through the Panama Canal to the Virgin Islands, so we have lots of sea stories to share. I spent 20 years in LA in the aerospace business as well as studying law, having met my first wife Barbara In 1963 in Israel. We moved to LA from the Isle of Wight , England where my parents had a hotel, and where I had studied French and German.
Our interests include international cuisine(of course!),, gardening, backyard bird watching, photography.
Unfortunately we both got sick in July-August 2015. My wife ended up in the hospital with pneumonia and an irregular heartbeat, so we had to cancel some reservations at the last minute, due to conditions beyond our control.
