Interaction with Guests
We are home most of the time. We like to interact with our guests, greet them when they arrive, help them decide where to go and what to see on the Big Island, and share our travel experiences.
We live on a quiet cul-de -sac in one of the older subdivisions (with underground utility lines). We are fairly close to town, we get cool ocean breezes on our ocean-facing lanai.. We enjoy the sound of the birds during the day, and the lack of noise at night. We have a beautiful shady garden with lots of trees and flowering plants.
There is a very limited bus service around the island but it is about I mile walk to the bus-stop. There is a shuttle bus in town that goes along the waterfront for about 5 miles, with stops at some shopping areas. We strongly recommend that visitors rent a car, as it is a steep walk from town to our house. Parking is available in our car-port under the house.

Colin and Rowena were incredibly hospitable and welcoming. Their house is beautiful, and the room with the attached bathroom was perfect.
We enjoyed our morning chat with them and they gave us some good tips on things to do / how to get around. We were going stargazing at Mauna Kea and they were thoughtful enough to lend us warm wear for the night.
Definitely enjoyed ourselves, staying in their home (though short) was one of the more memorable moments in Kona.
Colin and Rowena gave us a very warm welcome. We felt very much at home during our stay in their house. The bedroom is very spacious and comfortable, the private bathroom provided everything we needed. Very helpful for us was the offer for laundry.
We loved to talk to our hosts and share their experience of beautiful Big Island. And last but not least, we miss Sheba, the beautiful cat as well as mornings and evenings on the wonderful lanai!
Really easy to find, very convenient location to Kona airport and town. Colin made us feel so relaxed and comfortable like we were still in our own home. The lanai is lovely and we spent out mornings there staring at the ocean and listening to the birds. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is spacious. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
We really enjoyed our stay! Colin and his wife are very lovely folks! Couldn't think of a better way to spend some days in Kona. Spotless room, big private bathroom and they even offered free shower gel, sun lotions, etc. Close to Kona by car (ca. 5min). Would stay here again any time!
Colin and Rowena are lovely people, very nice to chat to, but give you as much privacy as you want.
Good sized room with clean linen and comfortable bed. The ensuite is large. Everything was well maintained. Internet worked well, and we did a load of washing including use of the dryer ($5). The balcony has a nice view of the water.
Colin and Rowena went above and beyond to make sure I got my hat back, which I'd left behind, which was greatly appreciated.
We will stay there again when we come back to see the Manta Rays and Mauna Kea! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Great hosts. Colin is helpful and informative. Big clean room with a private bathroom. Comfy and convenient. Coffe or tea in the morning, maybe with breakfast. But we left early and missed it. Pity. If we come back, we will definitely choose your house in Kona. Mahalo!
This is a welcoming comfortable home with lovely amenities! The hosts made us feel very welcome. Mahalo!
About the Host, Colin
My wife Rowena and I moved to Kailua-Kona in 1996. We love it here in Kona, this is our last stop on our voyage through life! We have a catering business (website hidden), we coordinate and cater private parties, weddings and special events up to 70 guests. If you would like to enjoy a gourmet home-cooked dinner instead of going to a restaurant, we will be happy to accommodate you. Before moving to Kona we ran a 65ft charteryacht in the Virgin Islands, showing guests how to sail, snorkel and windsurf, providing 3 meals a day and open bar. In 1983 I sailed a 41ft sailboat from Los Angeles through the Panama Canal to the Virgin Islands, so we have lots of sea stories to share. I spent 20 years in LA in the aerospace business as well as studying law, having met my first wife Barbara In 1963 in Israel. We moved to LA from the Isle of Wight , England where my parents had a hotel, and where I had studied French and German.
Our interests include international cuisine(of course!),, gardening, backyard bird watching, photography.
